"Live" from Indy 2012 divisional points race

Well we should be on the road by now, but ran into a couple of problems this morning. We should be gone within the hour. If anybody is there already, let us know how things are going. The weather is looking a little iffy all weekend, but hopefully they have the track dryer there and everything will go well. Will post more along the way.

Hi Patsy,

I arrived around noon, parked and went to tech. They are running test and tune right now, a pretty good head wind but no rain. See you this afternoon.

Well we are here. We are parked up on the grandstand side of the bowl. There really doesn't seem to be a lot of people here yet, but we haven't been out yet. When we left home it was in the 70's and it is in the 50's here and windy. We go out 1st at 9. Tomorrow's weather looks pretty good for getting our runs in, but 80% chance of rain on Sat. More later.

Good luck to everybody! Thanks to the Hill's for the updates. I understand my engine builder will be there. Good luck Bruce!!

Re: "Live" from Indy 2012 divisional points race

We just had 92 stockers go down. It was miserably cold sitting in the stands watching! There were 2 stockers in the 8s, but since none of the speakers were working, I don't know who they were. They had half of the indexes up wrong, so it will probably be a while before anything gets posted on DRC while they get things right. They had us on an 11.85 index which is F/SA which we have never run!

More later.

93 cars went down that time. 1st run adjusted altitude was 277'. 2nd run altitude was 650'. We slowed down about .04. We are done for the day. Time to stay in and get warm!

Re: "Live" from Indy 2012 divisional points race

It has been so cold and windy all day that we have stayed in the motorhome and kept warm.. Even took a nap this afternoon. Janice Fuller made some good sloppy joes that we enjoyed for dinner. We finally just went for a ride to see who all is here. In the teardown barn were Irvin Johns A/SA with the record at 9.88 and Dave Thomas in SS. I think they both were finishing up. I will get my camera out tomorrow and get some pics if it is not raining so much and people have their cars out. There should be a new list up soon with the ones who ran the clean-up run.

More tomorrow

Mark, I think he was there, but had already left by the time we were there. I think he got the record in Q/S at 12.83.

hey it started out as a cold day here at Indy, at 9am it was 37 or so, they waited till after 930 or so to call stock to the lanes, track seemed good for the cold conditions going on. Our first run with a new motor combo was a 9.69 -.95 under (detuned bigtime) and the second run it was 9.71. After the SS run i watched the other classes runs and cars struggled to get down the track, rd 2 Q of Comp was really bad for cars getting down the track. Hopefully the rains will bypass us tomorrow. Great to see a lot of my friends here this weekend and ones that i have not seen since last year and I'm still looking for Fred johnston in the pits, lol

well its raining at indy, it doesnt look like anything will be on the track till at least noonish if it doesnt rain another drop but thats not a given either.

Bo it is stupid fast here if you can get a hold of the track because of the cold temp anything with some bigtime hp wasnt doing the best.

Re: "Live" from Indy 2012 divisional points race

Its a cold dreary day for all of us at Indy, but what I feel sorry for is all the race dogs (pets). Our pit spot affords us a grand view of the "bowl" and for the last two days has been the favorite place for spot fertilization of the grass by our faithful four legged freinds. The chill in the air and the wet grass must trigger the the recently acquired instinct of the racer pets to "hold it". We have not seen a racer freindly pet out for a walk all morning.

Just ran our 3rd and final time trial. They still have stock and superstock on the schedules for round 1 the last thing tonight. It is way too cold out there. Still in the 40s.

Re: "Live" from Indy 2012 divisional points race

There was an oildown and then it started raining again, so we are done for the night. All the fields are set for running tomorrow. We start at 8 in the morning with stock.

Still don't know about the DQ's. Maybe Irv or Dave Thomas can shed some light on it.

Sorry I haven't taken any pics this weekend, but it has been too cold to be out except when we were running!!

Irvin's pistons didn't have a number on them. They are diamonds and measured right, even had Diamond and NHRA on them but no number.

I think Dave Thomas' exhaust valve was too big, just a little bit I think, like .011. They said the motor had never been apart.

Jeff Teuton 04-28-2012 09:18 PM

Re: "Live" from Indy 2012 divisional points race

The Diamond pistons have the number underneath. Some of the pistons only had the number under the piston, and nothing on the dome. NHRA is aware of that. A very old issue. This ain't the first goaround on these things. And Dave set the Natl Record and passed in stock.

Well my brother Jim just pulled out of my drive way in Moline, Illinois headed back to Indy after an all day drive and thrash. Short story - bad motor out, good motor in! If you see Jim sleeping outside Gate 8 in the morning knock on his door and wake him up.

Good luck to everyone tomorrow.

Probably a dumb question but, on sheet it has some drivers list with a letter included in their competition number. What that about?
examples: Jeff Taylor 286T, D Breeden 381B

They've run out of three and four digit numbers. Just like license plates.
