Supercar Showdown at Indy?
It is being reported on another website that the NHRA will have a Supercar Showdown on Friday of the U.S. Nationals. It will be similar to the ADRL's version, and will be run heads up with no breakout. Eliminations will begin early on Friday and once the show is eliminated down to eight, will run in between professional categories. For many years, Friday at Indy has featured the Hemi Challenge; adding a Supercar Showdown will make Friday even better.

Re: Supercar Showdown at Indy?
It is more than just an idle rumor
Now we have to go to Indy again this year - LMAO Ron |
Re: Supercar Showdown at Indy?
The official announcement should come in a few days. It hasn't been much of a secret the past month.
Personally, I consider it a heck of a compliment. |
Re: Supercar Showdown at Indy?
What a novel idea!

Re: Supercar Showdown at Indy?
I dont think its going to be called Supercar Showdown . I think they are going to call it American Muscle Series . Think it will be run Friday and Saturday night

Re: Supercar Showdown at Indy?

Re: Supercar Showdown at Indy?
Im fine with what ever they call it . I think its great that we now have 2 sanctioning bodies running heads up events that feature new factory race cars . Now if IHRA get with it that would be great . Factory car , head's up on Fri and Sat night !!

Re: Supercar Showdown at Indy?
Why would IHRA get into it? Nobody shows up now.

Re: Supercar Showdown at Indy?
If they can get the weight breaks right so all three types are competitive they could get over 25 cars wanting in - as long as they all have a chance
If it just shows off blower cars - it will not have as much crowd appeal - they won't care who weighs what as long as there is close heads up racing between all three brands NA V8s V10s PA V8s Ron |
Re: Supercar Showdown at Indy?
Ron, the weight breaks are right.......you just need to go a little deeper into your retirement, and actually tear down that V10. Build it like it's a purpose built drag race engine. Then you'd have your advantage.
Just my opinion, that's all. |

As you can imagine - I don't have any retirement money to dig into since I am a life long drag racing addict and don’t have any family money - LOL Not sure you would approve of the changes but we have done what is needed to our car and engine to make it a “purpose built” combination - LMFAO - you just are not up to speed on our efforts I am really not looking for an advantage just a level playing field in a heads up class Hope you can make it to INDY with your CJ and join the fun – it will likely be two blower cars in the final Ron |
Re: Supercar Showdown at Indy?
I waited to fill in the above post – I did not want to let Friday night liquid wrench have an impact on my words

All in good fun, and have fun at Indy in the shoot out. We will be there, just not in that class. Talk to ya soon, Sean |
Re: Supercar Showdown at Indy?
My personal opinion is the base V8 car should weight 3250 min with the driver, and the other weights be based on that. I don't think a DP or Mustang w/o a blower can get any lighter, I know a DP can't get much lower unless it's remote control, and then set the other weights accordingly. And you gotta have 3 speed in all the cars, not just the Mustangs. My 2 cents

Re: Supercar Showdown at Indy?
I'm curious to see what Barton will run when this thing shakes out. I assume NHRA is going to keep things quarter mile(hopefully). Can the NA V8's run 9.0's?
|
Re: Supercar Showdown at Indy?
Note to NHRA: 1) call if it A/FX 2) give the proper weight break to the Mopar to compensate for the Ford advantage with the blower and 3spd and voila a competive series. CR

Weight breaks? Horsepower advantage? Run'em straight up.
The monkeys responsible for placing these cars in Stock are too simple to understand the significance of FX classes. To the casual fan the word Stock sounds boring but Factory Experimental gets the imagination revved up. They would have been a big hit as showcase FX cars. |
Re: Supercar Showdown at Indy?
Cheby is only building the COPO's with 2 speed this is the only way you can buy if if you are one of the chosen few! Yet you can run it with a 3sp or manual, what gives? Was the envelope thicker? it should be what is good for the goose is good for the gander!
