Sold back in the 80s and gone who knows where. I got an email from a guy wanting to know if he had the real thing. He dose ! Car is in PA

Re: Stein's Black 63 found
wow-that's cool!
|
Re: Stein's Black 63 found
Now that is cool.
|
Re: Stein's Black 63 found
Is that hole in the firewall from a torqflite mishap???
|
Re: Stein's Black 63 found
Looks like the car has a Four speed hump cover and boot flange. I would think that it is a automatic trans behind that crime scene though. A flywheel/clutch explosion would be more severe.

Re: Stein's Black 63 found
Bob, I just learned that car is only about 10 miles from me !
I was looking for a D date code trans for a '63 Max Wedge restoration ,when a friend told me about it. There are more real Max Wedge cars per square mile around here than most people can believe, I know of at least 7 in a 10 mile radius from me! |
Re: Stein's Black 63 found
Tom you are right, there are a few up there. Oh yea trans let go in burn out box at Island and sounded like a gernade went off under my feet !
Not a 4 speed, car came with 3 speed on floor, later changed to an auto. |
Re: Stein's Black 63 found
Nice find there...I take it that this was your old car at one time...also do you know if the current owner is restoring it now.

Re: Stein's Black 63 found
I drove for Stein in 1973, had both cars. The owner wanted to talk to Jerry so I put him in touch with him, have not talked to either yet. Alum car, I would restore it, worth a bunch more than he paid back in the 80s
|
Re: Stein's Black 63 found
Is It a ORIG Alum car or was it added latter?
|
Re: Stein's Black 63 found
Its an early 63 steel car Max Wedge with Alum added when it came availible.

Re: Stein's Black 63 found
What's with the stripes on the early chrysler headers/collectors ?
They were on the dodge here as well? http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1.../untitled2.jpg |
Re: Stein's Black 63 found
Thyose painted stripes might be an old racers trick. Where the paint stops burning is where the max temp is.. This is where you'd cut the tube for best torque effiencency.

Don't know if it worked or not but that is where we cut 'em. Ran better with than without. Not quite as colorful as the two above! |

Jerry was from the same town I lived in for a while and I think he still lives there. I ran into him a few years ago near where I work in a hardware/tool store. He was a great racer in his day and very competitive..... He loved to throw a football around while waiting in the lanes to race...... Well he was a Phys Ed teacher for many years so thats no surprise.... |

Re: Stein's Black 63 found
Correct me if I'm wrong.
I think I remember seeing a red Teachers Pet car at the ETown divisional some 6 or 7 years ago maybe it was. Watching Stock Qualifying that Friday morning was a drag racing highlite for me. So many cars seemed to be a lil dusty and are probably only out once or twice a year. Stock and Super Stock qualifying just kept going and going, sooo many cars. best Friday morning I've ever had. Stood under the tower w sunglasses to keep from losing an eye from the burnout box rocks a kicking. those engines were singing some great songs that a.m. |

Re: Stein's Black 63 found
Stein replaced the black 63 some years later with a red one, the 64 was always red.
The lady claming to have Steins car is miss informed, it was not dammaged in a towing acident, it was hit in the pits at a points meet at E-town and repaired. It was sold to Wes Coleman of Paterson, NJ then to Ben Lawson, Ben sold it to the Now Owner in PA with the Alum. still on the car. Her car has red interior witch is not correct either. |
Re: Stein's Black 63 found
I understand there is a teacher pet alum nosed car in the Slatington PA area, possibly White ??

Re: Stein's Black 63 found
63 not white, it is still black as found, just as I ran it less the coleman & pagano
http://classracer.com/classforum/pic...pictureid=3613 The white car may be Ron Reiman's {spelling} car, it is a 64 |
Re: Stein's Black 63 found
i have to do some digging, it's been a couple of years since i talked to the owner last, not sure why i thought it is white.
The car I'm talking about is owned by a union pipe fitter in the slatington/lehighton PA area,i don't think i can/should drop his name. i"m pretty sure it's a 63 and a documented Teacher's Pet car and he has owned for 20-25 yrs, maybe it is the same black car. as you can tell I'm just a novice how many teacher pet cars were there? |
Re: Stein's Black 63 found
Only 3 sedans black 63 in my first post in this thread, 64 red and a second 63 built to replace the black one. he also ran a couple of station wagons. I think the guy you are talking about also has Lau's Raider a 64 dodge.
|
Re: Stein's Black 63 found
I'm out of town this week, will do some digging when i get back ,pretty sure he owns just the one car.

If we are thinking of the same person, he has what is left of Kenny's '63 Plymouth. |
Re: Stein's Black 63 found

Re: Stein's Black 63 found
Its not Monk, its Mike Bianco my good friend, he is making sure I get the tire pressure right !
|
Re: Stein's Black 63 found
How much fun was it to drag that car/trailer around behind a stationwagon?
Did you have to go to the proctologist every week to get the seat cover removed from between the cheeks? |
Re: Stein's Black 63 found
Never had a problem, used that setup for most points meets and motorhome when we went to Canada. 383 pulled like a bear and it was a stick too.

Re: Stein's Black 63 found
Trans was changed in the mid sixties. When I ran the cars they had B&M J converters I first changed the 64 to a Rossi in 73
