"Live" from the Combo in the Hills 2 @ Numidia Dragway!
Well we are not exactly live yet but, I figured I'd get the post started for Brian & Lee. We should be rolling out of Vineland, NJ in about an hour or so for the 3 1/2 hour trip up to Numidia (With a stop in Easton to switch trucks & get lunch) and be at the track around 2pm. I have my laptop & camera so I will post pics or give my card to Tom Goldman to post the pics up on here.
Look forward to a great race, hope to see a lot of you there! Gates are open from 5pm to 10pm tonight and re-open at 8am tomorrow morning! |
Re: "Live" from the Combo in the Hills 2 @ Numidia Dragway!
Hoping to make it, any advise on where to get diesel coming from 84/81/80 ?
And should I come across rt 11 or go a little farther west on 80 and come down 42/487 ? Thanks, Dave |
Re: "Live" from the Combo in the Hills 2 @ Numidia Dragway!
Going to Numidia we normally take I-80 to the Buckhorn Exit 232 and then go 42/487. Rt 11 works too but there are a lot of stop lights going through Bloomsburg. As for fuel there's a Love's on I-80 Exit 242 and another big station across the street from the Love's that's good for trailers. For cheaper fuel, there's an exit on I-84 that skims through New Jersey (think it's exit 1 Montague), there's a couple of big stations there but sometimes it gets a little busy at this exit.

Re: "Live" from the Combo in the Hills 2 @ Numidia Dragway!
Thanks Katie, I was considering that exit 1 stop at the edge of NJ, but ,I too have seen it too busy to get in and out of easily.Their current price is 3.79-diesel I will probably try your other suggestions depending on time frame. Any other suggestions appreciated.

Re: "Live" from the Combo in the Hills 2 @ Numidia Dragway!
Hate that I won't be able to make it this year, due to several issues and schedule changes, but I wish y'all the very best for another excellent event! Hope the locals turn out, and I look forward to better circumstances to allow me to make it to the 3rd Annual.

Re: "Live" from the Combo in the Hills 2 @ Numidia Dragway!
We should be rolling in around 1pm or so tomorrow afternoon. See you then.
|
Re: "Live" from the Combo in the Hills 2 @ Numidia Dragway!
Just loaded my firebird and Bryan's camero be there Friday about noon.
|
Re: "Live" from the Combo in the Hills 2 @ Numidia Dragway!
Dave, I filled up at the 242 exit. Like Katie said the gas station across from the Love's was very easy for 68' . The only problem the ramp to get back on 80 west is closed. Follow the detour signs to get back on 80 west to exit 232. Do not take 11. I followed my garmin, I was on a hill doing 15 mph. Wasn't fun. Should have taken rt 80 like I was planning.
Everyone have a safe trip. Blue skies over Numidia Lee |

Re: "Live" from the Combo in the Hills 2 @ Numidia Dragway!
Arrived at 10:05, nice easy trip, some traffic in Connecticut. Place looks good, I haven't been here since lodrs days. Ran into Rich Aman and Dave Ring at the finishline bleachers. I think Angelo got beat by one of the Warners in the cic race final.Someone correct me if i am wrong. Time for some rest, can't wait to see the area in the daylight.

Re: "Live" from the Combo in the Hills 2 @ Numidia Dragway!
Good Morning Class Racer Fan!
Well the day is finally here! The combo in the hills 2 race day! We had a ton of rigs roll in last night so it will be a great day for racing. Some cloud cover w/ a sprinkle here but, Mike Summers and the crew should have everything in tip top shape today! Congrats going out to Angelo Ditocco who took out one of the Worners in the finals of the CIC race! I will tell you one thing I'm having a blast and hope everyone else is also! Rob K .90 Nationals |
Re: "Live" from the Combo in the Hills 2 @ Numidia Dragway!
wish i could be there
|
Re: "Live" from the Combo in the Hills 2 @ Numidia Dragway!
I thought Bryan Worner won the CIC race.
|
Re: "Live" from the Combo in the Hills 2 @ Numidia Dragway!
Yes, I did win. I ran a 9.77 on a 10.66 index and Angelo ran a 9.90 (lifted) on a 10.59 index. His win light came on because they still had breakouts in the computer.
Thanks to Lee and Bryan for having this race! This is the most fun a class racer can have at the track! I did not have the fastest car by far, but somehow ended up winning! Just like Comp, the fastest car doesn't always win! Had I believed that, I would've been like the rest of those who made the wrong decision to park their car and watch this race! |
Re: "Live" from the Combo in the Hills 2 @ Numidia Dragway!
How many cars competed in the CIC race?
|
Re: "Live" from the Combo in the Hills 2 @ Numidia Dragway!
weather ------- excellant sunny, no baro, high elevation ,but who cares
track conditions -------excellant Left wheels-up too high actually scenery -------- excellant combo in the hills means it, always has been beautiful here turnout ------ could be better, heard about 40 stk/ss total, no one's fault , busy time etc fun factor ----- excellant great relaxing fun --people,track etc I heard there were 11 cars in the cic race last night Glad I made the trip, thanks to all |
Re: "Live" from the Combo in the Hills 2 @ Numidia Dragway!
My 60 light was no match for Ed Horensky's 40 light, so it was a 1st rd loss for me. I hit the road and did not see anymore rounds. What I did see went smoothly. Lee was very dissappointed with the turnout (40)when I spoke with him.
They were going to run stock and super stock seperate for 2 rounds Congrats to Don Kennedy for the long distance award !!!!!!!!!! they must be done by now, someone will post i am sure |
Re: "Live" from the Combo in the Hills 2 @ Numidia Dragway!
Just wanted to thank all the stock/ss guys who came out for the Combo In The Hills 2 race! I know it was tough for a lot of you with 3 or 4 races in a row but, it was a great time by all!
Results: W: Byron Worner Ru: Jeff Tripp So the Worners take home the 2nd annual Combo in the Hills & CIC race! |
Re: "Live" from the Combo in the Hills 2 @ Numidia Dragway!
Had a blast at the Combo In The Hills. It's a shame more cars didn't show up but its understandable after 3 back-to-back weekends of racing. The highlight for me was seeing Ditocco and Worner do monster burnouts to past the 60-foot in the final of the CIC race. Not sure why, but that was awesome.
Thanks Lee Zane and Brian Van Poppel for doing a great job running this race. |
Re: "Live" from the Combo in the Hills 2 @ Numidia Dragway!
Had a blast, shame on you if you missed it. Will probably never get my son out of my Firebird,my mistake! Thanks to Lee Brian and Bob for everything. Congrats to the Woners.

I also want to publicly thank Lee, Brian, Bob, the starting line crew and the Dimino family for putting this race on. Every element within human control was executed very well: track prep, race control decisions, the food was good and the weather was fantastic as well. |
Re: "Live" from the Combo in the Hills 2 @ Numidia Dragway!
I also want to thank Lee, Bryan and the Numdia staff for another excellent race! The starting line was a little iffy Friday night and the waiting in the staging lanes was a little annoying, but It was worth it! Nothing that doesn't happen to us when we go to a points race or when we are either hurried, or pushed aside for the pros at a national event!
What I don't understand is all the class racers who didn't attend this race! I know there are a lot of you who post on here from the northeast, so lets hear the excuses why you didn't plan on coming to this race! I'm sure you really enjoy sitting in fields for days and lines for hours getting into points races and national events, and getting pitted miles from the starting line in the dirt. I guess since this race offered none of that, you weren't interested! Either that, or, if you happen to win on occasion, you like haggling with manufacturers for their **50, **100 or **300 contingency payments! Didn't have to do that here either! Finally, maybe you like worrying about going a second under to trigger that good old AHFS review........didn't happen here either! In fact, you had a race where you could let it all hang out with no penalty whatsoever!!!! Like Lee said, shame on you for not showing up! Last, I had no business winning the CIC race! Even though only 11 cars entered, there were 6 cars capable of running 1.30 under the old indexes. I was not one of them! I qualified #7 out of 11! So if you think you need a car that can run 1.40 under to win one of these races, you are wrong! Don't get me wrong, a really fast car helps, but we all know that you need some luck to win any race! I got lucky, for once! |

Re: "Live" from the Combo in the Hills 2 @ Numidia Dragway!
I agree with Marc,I`m glad that there are alternatives to NHRA races but I don`t see alot of the guys coming up north form the southern part of Div1.Maybe one or two last year at Epping and none at Napierville which is 10k to win.
I mentioned this to Lee last year and I could tell by the look on his face he wasn`t going to drive up here for a couple of races. So the excuse will be the same for both of us:the drive. |
Re: "Live" from the Combo in the Hills 2 @ Numidia Dragway!
I agree with Bryan there were too many racers that wern't at the race that are on this site crying about NHRA and saying we need an alternative. You had a chance and didn't show up , shame on you!

Re: "Live" from the Combo in the Hills 2 @ Numidia Dragway!
Also You should be at All Star and ECSSS races.

Re: "Live" from the Combo in the Hills 2 @ Numidia Dragway!
We had a great time putting this on. Unfortunately this was the last one that Brian and I will have time for. It is tough to travel these days for races, and I'm not upset with anyone from the northeast not coming down. There are many races that are back to back and you do need to make decisions on where and when to race. The problem I have is there were over 80 people saying they would attend if the weather was nice. We had 40 for the combo on Saturday. That said everyone that was there seemed to have a great time at thats all that really matters.
Adam, I was at Epping last year, wasn't there long. It was one race I was glad to loose first round with all the heat there. Unfortunately I will not attend Lebanon or Epping this year, like it was said before you need to pick and choose and I would rather go to Bristol for the National and spend nothing for Tolls than travel up north. Costs me **70 in tolls just to get to Atco from Baltimore which is bad enough. Someday a race will be put together to fit everyone's schedule, price range, fun level, etc,,, lol We do want to thank everyone that was there in the S/SS and the .90 Nationals and I apologize for the oil down in the quarter final. I gave myself an oil down penalty for that also!!! There may still be a combo event at Numidia next year. Looking for someone to take over the Combo in the Hills for us. Hope everyone has a great second half to the season. Lee |

I bet if they have the 10 grander at Napierville the weekend before the Epping National next year (hint hint div 1) you'll have an excellent car count at both. |
Re: "Live" from the Combo in the Hills 2 @ Numidia Dragway!
And another thing,,,,,,like Lee Valentine said if you can't or won't support racing that takes all the annoying attributes of an NHRA racing experience away, long wait to get in, AHFS, etc, you should not cry about them on this forum! My OPINION!

Re: "Live" from the Combo in the Hills 2 @ Numidia Dragway!
First off I want to say Thank You to Brian, Lee & the whole Numidia Staff for all the help over the weekend at the 90 Nationals & Combo in the Hills event. Lee & Brian really did help out with the .90 event because it seemed that I would be there for an hour with no entries and run to the bathroom and 10 people would show up to sign up and Lee & Brian would help out...lol. Also a BIG THANK YOU to Dave Ley & Curt LaShure who did tech for all the cars before going to Maple Grove for the Mopar Race.
I mean it's nobody's fault as to why you didn't show up or support this event. When I approached Lee in December about piggy backing onto my event Lee was on the fence but, I was able to twist his arm. I had the date already set-up all we had to do was wait. Unfortunately Maple Grove added the 50th Anniversary Stk/SS Series and the Mopars at the Grove was also added on this weekend.....which is beyond our control. For a 40 car field it was still a nice payout and some darn good racing! Yes Angelo's & Worner's burn-outs across the starting line in the finals of Friday Nights CIC race was great and had us all smiling and laughing on the line (Isn't that what it's all about.....HAVING FUN?). I mean I did speak with Lee & Brian a little bit on Thursday Night when Lee was giving us the astronomy lesson on the stars about possibly taking over the Combo in the Hills event. I personally have cut back my time inside the racecar because I enjoy putting together these events. I maybe a .90 racer but, I have a lot of good friends in the stock/super stock classes and I made a few more this weekend. I will do everything in my power to continue this event and keep Brian & Lee's hard work on the Combo in the Hills going! Thanks once again to everyone who attended this event....hopefully you will hear something in the future. |
Re: "Live" from the Combo in the Hills 2 @ Numidia Dragway!
A big thanks to Lee and Brian for once again having me back to announce the race. Having Rob Keister and the .90 Nationals cars running with with Combo in the Hills stock /super stockers was a great fit, great racing in all the classes. Got to see many old friends and met many new ones too. The DiMino family and the track staff did an outstanding job all weekend long. Josh and Johnny B, the tower staff, were very good to work with, they made my job easy. The whole event was first class. And yes, a few people took me up on the offer to visit with us in tower, maybe next year more will do so. If I'm wanted back in 2013, count me in! Good luck to all in your racing efforts for the rest of the year!

Re: "Live" from the Combo in the Hills 2 @ Numidia Dragway!
I told Lee back around Feb that I would be there and have
been very excited about it, but as always, I can't get a break. Long story short, a neighbor that thought I disurbed the roots on her tree when I had the paving company do my small parking lot by my garage vowed revenge and three days later the town gave me till the end of June to replace the roof on my house or I would be fined 300 a day for every day it wasn't done, all over a few loose shingles. I had just laid out 7K for the paving in front and rear of the house plus put a 2K deposit on some parts for my Challenger and the roof being done by a friend at a great price will be 5K to be paid the last Friday of June. I said, hey I can still go, I'll just skip the new convertor, ramps and tires for the trailer. A few weeks ago my no.2 employee told me that he had to leave at noon on 6-8 for personal reasons and had an unplanned photo shoot with his cable show in Delaware the next day and my other good register guy was on his weekends off and had plans which left me with two guys that can barely get through an hour running the store without me, at that point I knew I was beating a dead horse. I'm glad I got there to watch and see some people for a few hours on Sat. Sorry for the long rant, yea, I feel guilty. |
Re: "Live" from the Combo in the Hills 2 @ Numidia Dragway!
Thank you Lee and Brian for pulling this all together....piggybacking it with the .90 race makes perfect sense and is likely a blueprint for future events like this.
It was a extremely enjoyable time with the free test and tune, and the cookout was great. A nice well run race. With a coughing sick Beagle race truck in SS, and the ever dangerous Ed-Mobile Gremlin in stock, I had a blast.....and that is why you support these events...... Thanks Eric |
