In-car camera from Budds Creek IHRA S/S

I placed a camera insde four Super/stock cars this past weekend at MIR. The IHRA Sportsman Spectacular event was tough, with hot temps and a shower Saturday and Sunday. This video is a little grainy but the raw footage is awesome. When I run it thru my movie maker, the quaility takes a hit. I'll find a new way to post...any help would be appreciated this first clip is Bryan Worner during Q-2. The camera's are called Re-Play and are availible at Computech Systems.

Come on brother, that was my "I'm slackin on the Corvette project" hat ! And I earned it fair and square. I'm gonna get back on it any day now though. It's torture watching folks race, and I don't even have a good excuse.

Wade, what is the megabyte per second/minute usage on the camera

I think there are three settings 1080, 960, and 740 Somewhere close to those numbers

Wade,
Call me tommorrow. I have a customer who is really sharp with videos. I just did some work on a supercharger he is adapting to a 302 in a Mustang. He is sharp and loves to help with that type of stuff.

Wade,
Nice videos. The front window view seems blinding, is that because it is back in the car and the ap. is opened way up? Will this transmit live or is it recorded on a card? Have a friend who needs a "live" mobile camera for a different project.
Thanks

Re: In-car camera from Budds Creek IHRA S/S

Bobby, the cameras do not have a transmitter in them, so you must download the video. Also nothing can be used in real time in-car transmitting in NHRA or IHRA. Mike Baker of IHRA told me that he does not have a problem with cameras in the cars, as long as there are no wires from the device....and it's not on the nose of the car pointing to the opponents lane. My NHRA buddies tell me it's OK in quailifying/TT, but not allowed in the car for eliminations. As far as the lighting, I think if the camera is inside the car, it seems to adjust itself to the interior lighting and the glare off of the windshield seems to wash-out slightly. The other issue on the views that washed, the camera was mounted low on the cross bar (rearward bars were too big for the cam mt. or not usable due to bar placement) pointing up slightly. When the camera was placed high in the car, the clip view was better inside and outside. The Re-Play camera was selected as the all around best by HotRod magazine out of four cameras tested including GoPro. More info is availible at Computech Systems. The clips I placed on here are comprmised due to my movie maker program is junk. The raw footage downloaded is very nice and clear.

Don't we see in car video from the funny cars all the time on TV during eliminations?

Yeah, but pros can't "break-out" or worry about margin of victory, so they can have them.

Wade, what does it record to? A removable card? Or down load to a USB drive?

Wade Mahaffey 07-17-2012 10:26 PM

Re: In-car camera from Budds Creek IHRA S/S

Ed, It has a mini card (adapter included) and you can USB with the provided cord to down load, which can also be used as a charger from 110v , 12v , USB. More info and photos of it on computech.com...click on new products

Manual trasmission cars are hands down, the most fun to watch as well as drive. Can you imagine watching a full event of stick shift cars, with a split screen jumbo tron and both cars having in-car cameras. It would only take a couple dozen cameras and a crew to switch them out. Or you could set-up 40-50 cars like nascar with motorized cameras. Now that would be super cool! Drivers that wanted to participate could place a quick disconnect camera bracket permanent on the cage/bar. Bring back Modified production...Bring back the Corvettes and chevy IIs....9500 RPMs and row that stick! Now that is excitement....Ok, it was just a dream....BUT IT WOULD BE VERY COOL!

Wade,, Don't know if you were there, but at Byron Dragway in July of 2001, at the US Classnationals, the call went out on Friday morning for all stick shift cars on the property to come to the lanes. If I recall correctly, there were over 60 manual trans'ed stockers and superstockers that answered the call. It was pretty awesome to watch that action!
I'm sure Nitro Joe still has all the stats and the body count from that famous event.
Thanks again,, Alex,,, hope you're feeling fine.
