"Live" from Stanton, MI Div. 3 points race
Well we are live from Michigan, but not quite to Stanton yet. From Columbus, we came on up to see Al and Bev Provoast, so we have been here since Monday. They are both doing great and will be coming to Stanton for the race to see all their old friends and to celebrate Al's 80th birthday! We have just been relaxing around here and getting caught up on all the news. We went for a ride today over to Lake Huron. Here are a couple of pictures from Tawas:
http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/o...202/001-12.jpg Here is Al and Bev, still looking great. http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/o...202/002-13.jpg Here is Larry with Lake Huron in the background. Well it is beginning to rain a little here. It is calling for a little rain tonight, tomorrow, and on Friday. But at Stanton for Saturday and Sunday it is looking sunny and low 80's. That sounds absolutely wonderful after Chicago and Norwalk! |

Larry, Al and Bev look great. Tell them hi from me. See you all this weekend.

Re: "Live" from Stanton, MI Div. 3 points race
Larry great writeup in ND Sportsman Coverage, GO FOR 2
|
Re: "Live" from Stanton, MI Div. 3 points race
Well we are on our way south to Stanton. We should be there around 11. We have been driving in the rain off and on. It is not looking real good for test and tune tonight, but Sat and Sun. look great.
Luke, come by and introduce yourself. Greg, come by for that birthday beer! Nick, that was a good write-up in National Dragster, but with lots of errors! Jeff Teuton is our stemware advisor, not Joe! And it is Joel on Joy, not Joel at Joel's! I will correct the rest after I have a Dragster to refer to. Well more after we get there! |
Re: "Live" from Stanton, MI Div. 3 points race
We are here and in line. They say they are not parking until 3. There are probably 20 rigs here so far.
Tom with Goodyear is here, but only for today. So Larry is unloading the car and changing out some tires while he is here. Oh, Tom was one of the names ND left out of the article! |
Re: "Live" from Stanton, MI Div. 3 points race
They started parking a little early and we are now in and parked and sitting in the middle of a big rain storm. We got all set up before the bottom fell out! I would say this rain may put an end to test and tune, but we will just have to wait and see.
More later. |
Re: "Live" from Stanton, MI Div. 3 points race
Well I was right. The rain did away with test and tune tonight. It has quit raining hopefully for good til after Sunday night! There are lots of race cars in here tonight getting ready for a good race this weekend. Jimmy Ronzello's car is really pretty in real life! I saw him putting on decals tonight. Our friends Tom and Debbie Rhoda are here with their comp car. They had an incident with it at Pomona at the end of last year with a fire and have just got it back running. I will get some pics tomorrow. We met Luke Awdish this evening. He brought over some "Badass" beer, which was pretty much badass! He tried out a Lime a Rita, too. It was nice meeting you, Luke.
Well tomorrow stock is out first at 10. It looks like we are getting 3 runs tomorrow with 1st round of eliminations for everyone not until Sunday. More tomorrow! |
Re: "Live" from Stanton, MI Div. 3 points race
We are here too!
Anyone coming north on 131, if you are planning on taking M-46 East from 131, you might consider bailing at exit 110 (Sand Lake). Take the road from the exit right into Sand Lake, then turn left at the light. Take that road all the way north 10 miles until you hit M-46, then turn right and head to Edmore. It is down to one lane and the sign said it was 50 minutes from exit 110 to exit 120. Since I am from these parts, I knew the alternate route and we bailed. It took us 15 minutes to go the 10-11 miles. Going home down 131 the exit to Southbound 131 from M-46 is also closed and the detour takes you north 5 miles, so it's 10 miles total out of your way. Might want to go down through Howard City/Sand Lake. M-57 is all tore up through Greenville so that's not a good alternate either. |
Re: "Live" from Stanton, MI Div. 3 points race
It is a gorgeous day here in Stanton. It is sunny and 63 this morning with a high of 83 for the day. They started letting rigs in at 8 this morning and there has been a continuous flow coming in. We run stock at 10 and should be getting 3 runs today.
I received a pm from Larry Sullivan with DRC saying they do not have a reporter here this weekend, so I will try to take pictures of the qualifying sheets and post them. Anyone else who wants to try and do this, please do so, because I am not real good at it! But I will try! More later! |
Re: "Live" from Stanton, MI Div. 3 points race
67 stockers made 1st run. On cell phone. Bad Internet service. Track bad for a out half of cars
|
Re: "Live" from Stanton, MI Div. 3 points race
Here is stock, superstock wasn't up yet. We should be going up for round two soon. There is a bit of a tail wind which is weird in these parts (wind out of the East is pretty rare here).
I heard possibly John McLeod had some problems with his throttle sticking after the run and broke the motor. Bummer! Drew Skillman spun like crazy, I know, I ran beside him and for the first and probably last time I beat a new Mustang through the traps!! No postings on Dragrace Central?

Re: "Live" from Stanton, MI Div. 3 points race
Already posted that they are not there, just like myself

Re: "Live" from Stanton, MI Div. 3 points race
I am sorry I am just posting but it's been a busy afternoon. I was running George Wright when he got a little out of shape, sashayed a bit, and scrubbed the wall. He is ok, and being the awesome gentleman he is, his main concern when the car got bent was NOT crossing the centerline and collecting me. Thank you George! We appreciate it! :D
The funny thing was, Tony was at fuel check when it happened and didn't see it. He just heard it was a black Mustang that hit a wall. Then they said it was a convertible and he freaked. What are the odds that the two black convertible Mustangs would be going down at the same time when one got bent? But we are both good. Jimmy & George's car has a few scrub marks on the side, the rear passenger wheel got bent a bit and the tire came off the rim, but it's all fixable. The guard rail they have here vs. cememt most places have probably helped the situation for them. Most importantly George is ok. He did a great job keeping it off the wall for the most part, and if I recall he didn't even cross the center line, if he did it was just by a little bit. I lifted with lots of time to stay out of his way, but he didn't know that. I will post some qualifying sheet pics in a sec. |

Ralph, please don't discourage a person trying to help us out with reports. If you can't see them, ask. Usually, someone can help. Most people that are posting are also racing and busy outside of posti ng reports. Your response may not have meant to be taken as a snide response, but it sure read that way. |

When the Webshots screen opens, click on the picture again and you get a choice of seeing them as a fullscreen or downloading them. Click fullscreen and they are VERY easy to read! And Jim is right, we are very busy. My whole extended family is here, including a 10 year old and 6 year old niece I don't see NEARLY enough of. So I am spending very high quality time doing this this weekend in particular. But I don't mind. Patsy was going to help here obviously, but sometimes technology isn't our friend. I have some pics from qualifying but I refuse to spend any more time here other than posting final of SS until they go home. And BTW, Happy Belated Birthday, Jim!! :D |
Re: "Live" from Stanton, MI Div. 3 points race
They just finished a clean up round that I was told they weren't going to have even though it was scheduled (I went to the tower and asked Jay very nicely if I could re-run my pass that I had to blow because I had to lift to avoid a problem 2nd round and was told there wasn't going to be a clean up, then Tony asked after they announced it and he said no. Whatever.).
So I will post final sheets when they go up. |

Stock Ladder (I guess Jay read my earlier post and thought he would "punish" me by making my one of the first pair out! LOL)

I promise I will get it first thing in the morning. I only have Stock because Tony bought the sheets and brought them back to the motorhome. |

I will post while I can before everybody else gets up! It is cool and sunny this morning. In the 50's, but should be in the 80's later today. We have George Wright this morning who crashed yesterday. I have a few pics which I will try to post. We had a great birthday celebration with Al last night which I have pics of also.

Got beat with a -.002 red light 3rd round. More later
|
Re: "Live" from Stanton, MI Div. 3 points race
In the 3rd round it was: Truman over Andrew Hill, Botten over Goodman, Whitcher over Taylor, Costello over Gillespie, Adkinson over Holbrook, Cummings over Kevin Zaskowski after a big burndown at the tree, Jason McCormack over Shane Zaskowski, Bill Owen over Larry Hill, and Bishop over Dean.
As I listened to 4th round just as we were leaving, I think it was Botten over Truman, Costello over Whitcher, Adkinson with the bye, Cummings over McCormack and Owen over Bishop. |
