Cordova Div race Aug 10-11 = SS 283 Night of Fire!

Man am I excited...
This divisional race has the entertainment potential of the year.
If only they could have class runoffs after dark, under the Musco lights, and force the spectators to watch from the guardrails!

Looks like the top 283 Chevy II's will be there.
Gene Bichlmeier makes it every year, and Tim Nicholson is rumored to make the tow.
David Smith, Wayne Denklau, and Larry Wilson, could all show.
Those feared Zaskowski boys better show with both cars.
If Dan Schlieker, Robin Brown (where is the blue rocket these days), and Greg Smith could make it, I would be so happy!
Even Charlie Westcott could put a spare 283 in something and make it!
Gary Tompa would look better with a 283 Nova.
Dan Jacobs would be a very welcome addition (what a car).
I propose Don Wolf as head starter, and Fred Cain as announcer (from Div2).
Gary Jennings should be wheelie bar advisor, and fuel checker!

It would the next best thing to bringing back Modified eliminator.
If its a Super Stock 283, with a stickie, it should make this race, and the Earlville divisional.

Please make my weekend guys. I will look forward to seeing you there.
This is still the best you tube video, because the audio is just perfect, and the helmet cam is a great view. Anybody know what camera Fillipone used?

Don as you can see Chevy II's with little engines don't get much interest on here.

Glad all you stick guys will be coming and ringing my ears!
Now if we can get some Kentucky and Tennessee, gear heads to make it.
I hope Robin Brown and Greg Smith are doing well, and would like to hear if anybody has seen them lately.
Also, where did the Becool Chevelle go to? Is this the car Larry Wilson owns?

Went to the track last night for the Test n Tune...
Temps dropped into the 60's about 6PM
Skillman cranks out an 8.88 and goes over 151
A starting line view of 4 A/FD's, barking nitro, got the blood flowing.
The Mans gang stood up the new bullet, SS/AS entry, as the track had serious teeth already.

Really, this event is better than the World Series by 100X
The eliminator finishes at night, and the racers can socialize with a cold one as the winners circle time winds down. It ends on Sat. night, and we usually gather near the 1100 foot mark near the end of the race. Lots of non winners can still enjoy the sport!

The video stuff is fun to look at. I would like to see people get their audio quality up to Fillipone standards!

I notice Tony doesn't post here ever? But does he have someone who would comment on his camera setup. I would buy one of those in a minute. There is no severe audio distortion, which is what sucks about most peoples you tube vid's. I make racing videos, and watch the details like this, its important to get a smooth sound, and not easy either.

Nicholson went 10.00 in GT/I. That's damn impressive!

Thanks for those film clips... They are really good, and I liked the contour web hosting site.
I think you have some good cameras there, but still like that helmet view in Fillipones clip.
Your microphone is almost as good to. What camera model was in Bill's Chevy II?
Also, we missed having you guys at Cordova!
Maybe a 283 Nationals needs to happen!

The highlights of this race...
---Watching the TJ Diekema and Logan Wernet's, 1962 Fury entry win stock.
This was TJ's first time win, for the always fun loving family.
--Watching Tim Nicholson wheel the Cassil Chevy II, and almost run a first 9 second ET, with the 283 4 speed setup.
--Looking at Doug Engels car in person, its the ex Warter Joint venture car.
--Watching the 4 A/FD's from the starting line.
--Watching O'Malley out laugh the Nebraska and Kansas boys.
--Enjoying the cool weather, and having friends in town for the event.
--Seeing a really good grouping of hot rods for a decent ticket price.
--Team Skillman was very impressive, and I liked the supercharged cars...
But I think the new mustangs belong in an Outlaw SS class. Come on man, these cars are as expensive as 10 wide and Outlaw nitrous format cars. They make everyone else look like the Flintstones!

The race was all done before 10PM, and had few accidents and oildowns.
A very smooth event, and perfect weather.

It was great to see Greg and Andrew Hill make the drive up and put a nice show on for everyone, also the many cars that came from the far west of D5. Great weather and racing just goes together.

Brad got the contour camera right from P.C. Richards website i pasted the link at the bottom. Top one is for the camera and bottom is for the roll bar mount. It also comes with a couple mounts. We ended up going to IHRA's race at 131, its hard not to go when it is only 40 mins from home brad posted a few videos from our weekend there.

It looked great from the stands, I spent so much time shooting that I didn't get as much "pit time" as I wanted. I had about 160 shots, digital and film. First time I had ever been to Cordova, enjoyed myself completly. It also helped that my friend won in Comp.

Were you the guy sitting right behind me at the west end of the stands? I was the guy in the Led Zepplin shirt taking pictures of the first round of Stock. :)

I could have been. I was in the west stand that was straight with the track, I took some of the others from that angled stand later, and grabbed a few from that little platform by the tower. I shot one "roll" with my old film camera because I still have a 300mm. I had to go down a ways for that. I should have gone to the other side for better color, sun was not helping when shooting from the north. Even my programs didn't help cleaning up the pics.

I was in a plain blue tank and shorts.
