live from Cecil County-NHRA Lucas Oil Series

Its going to be another hard weekend as the boss is going to be out testing someplace else and left me to do the legwork again .I understand now that he is a team driver and all but one of these days he's going to miss me .Enough of that stuff .......

First off there was testing today - not much to speak of I'm told ( yes , I wasn't in attendance again today ) -- oh yeah , one of those pesky new white cars was there today - it was the ATI COPO car with Marty Reinhardt at the helm - in SuperStock trim -on his second pass went 8.92 @ 157 fresh out of Ken Keirs shop I'm told .He ditched the 9 inchers for a set of 10 and a halves and hooked ok .

Not much else to speak of except that there are rumors there will be a "Billy" sighting this weekend along with one of his famous "dime rockets" on the grounds .

On the weather front it looks terrific for the next few days - geez , I know now that will backfire on me .......let the hazing begin ......later.

Good morning - No shortage of cars here at Cecil County this morning - pit space on the sportsman side already at a premium .

Weather - 78 degrees - 80% humidity with a stinko barometer of 29.50 equals a 2600' altitude at this early hour .

New faces - would you believe Wally Clark is here ? Welcome back to the tour Wally .........

Qualifing to begin shortly ..........later .

Jack: What is the current schedule looking like?
I can't get down until Saturday night, so Sunday spectating is my best bet.
If I do make it on Sunday, can I assume a dozen assorted??
Fresh of course.

There's been a Wally sighting?? Probably ran out of some "Stateside only" item that normally lives in his fridge. :p

Re: live from Cecil County-NHRA Lucas Oil Series

Hello Everyone!

It was a warm one here today. Almost as hot and humid as Atco a couple weeks ago. Weather for the 2nd stock qualifier was:

85 Degrees
29.50 Barometer (terrible for Cecil)
Very light cross/headwind
DA 3105'

Most I talked to were .05 to .07 quicker than Atco, mostly due to the downhill nature of Cecil.

New track surface is much better than it was previously. It is a little bumpy, but that should be corrected when the perform track grinding in the future. Right lane seems bumpiest in the middle of the track and left lane is bumpy around 1000'. Traction was fine and bumps weren't bad enough to cause any issues (at least in a low 10 second Stocker).

Looks like everyone was going to get a 3rd hit today. I personally skipped it due to some work obligations. The sheet for Stock is up on DRC and it looks like some picked up in the 3rd session.

It was very cool to see the ATI COPO Camaro today in Super Stock. Made a pretty stout first pass.

No pictures from me today, but I'll see what I can do tomorrow...

Finally, a special shout out to Joe Fasano and Steve Calabro for allowing me to use their '69 Camaro Stocker again. Very much appreciated!

This 62 Belair just struck my fancy. I couldn't find it on the qualifying sheet until the third session, where it is listed as Denny Ford's 69 Camaro.

It may not be the oldest car in competition. There is also a 62 Polara on the grounds.

Re: live from Cecil County-NHRA Lucas Oil Series

Good to see Denny has completed the changeover of the car to stock. He has owned and raced the car with a 409 for a number of years in nostalgia classes. Nice to see a 409 in traditional stock. Congrats to Denny

Re: live from Cecil County-NHRA Lucas Oil Series

409 to boot, great to see a great looking 62 in stock, congrats on the nice finish product. Claude p.s special thanks to all our track side reporter and photograph out there.

Man, I would love to see my old friend Denny at Bowling Green next weekend. There used to be a ton of d1 cars at BG . Last year there were less than a handful.

..... so to continue on this, this is actually a remote live report from a remote live reporter .... so then how am I suppose to find out how Steve is doing without the really live reporter reporting ? hmmmmmm

Jack Matyas 08-17-2012 10:01 PM

Re: live from Cecil County-NHRA Lucas Oil Series

OK - so here's the scoop - the " LIVE " reporter is now on the grounds and all I have is bad news ( so what else is new ) - its raining here at Cecil County with plenty of lightning along with it to boot .The last few days the weathermen were saying this storm would miss this area but once again they're making me look bad ( as if I can't do that myself ) .

I learned a valuable lesson on the way here today - don't use a bank parking lot for a u-turn ......nothing good can come out of it .I turned in and as I did I just knew it would be trouble - then I went around the building thinking it was an exit road - nope , went right to the drive-up windows .... starting to see where this is going ? I was convinced I could make it thru the outside lane and the coach went thru easily with about 6 inches to spare - but the trailer was at the wrong angle and it went bad from there -after what seemed like forever I got it out but left a "Darlington Stripe" on their white curb and my trailer tires .Never - ever again ............ And if you're thinking I took pictures - think again .

We'll see what its like in the AM but I'm thinkin' anything but dry .........

Re: live from Cecil County-NHRA Lucas Oil Series

Almost forgot to talk about racing - I'm sure Ken wants me to do that a little - anyway here goes ---

Woody who ??? The provisional pole once again goes to Woody Pagano with his sanitary '70 Nova A/SA @ -1.02 under .I'm sure the rest of the New England All-Stars are proud of you .

Who says there isn't new blood in Stock - Jonathan Allegrucci in BB/SA
Neil Goldstein in B/SA
George Yago in H/SA
Dan Walleigh in D/SA

And in S/S I was glad to see Marty Reinhart with the ATI COPO @ # 4 going 8.80 - nice first outing so far ..........

Later .........

Good morning - No need for the trip to Home Depot this morning as the rains have stopped ( hopefully for good ) and we don't have to pick-up lumber for the ark .It would have been a long sail today to Brainerd - with the zoo there it was necessary to go and get the animals .

At any rate its still overcast here with no Sun peeking out what-so-ever .Today calls for everyone getting one more hit and then on to elims but it will surely be a few hours before that happens ..........and its getting very stuffy in here already as the humidity and temps are rising fast .Geez- I really feel the need for a shower and I had one a half hour ago .Tech will be open in an hour so if you need to ..........

I was reminded this morning that one of my "new blood " people I wrote of last evening - Neil Goldstein - was runner-up at Indy in the late seventies - welcome back Neil .

Bring back the "good ole days" when we went to shopping malls for tech - we just parked there and waited - everyone was happy ..............Can you imagine this many motorhomes and trailers at a local mall ? Later with some pics ...........

Opps - one last thing - would you believe the Internet service here is 4G and is lightning fast but I've got zero TV reception ..........

The Sun has been out most of the day until an hour ago when it became overcast and has stayed that way .Weather - 80's but the barometer is terrible so the altitude is now close to 3000' .Doing all the nineties stuff and then the top classes then Alcohol followed by some first rounds with Comp somewhere in there .Confused ......so are we .Think I'll take a nap ......Yesterday was long and hard and I'm whipped .

SuperStock out on the track now - then S/GAS - maybe then first round of Stock ......wind is picking up and ...........
