INDY Stock #1 Qualifier

I was told that the truck Wong is driving has a Billy Plage Motor in it. Congrats to all.

Re: INDY Stock #1 Qualifier

An Autozone engine could have been #1 with that combo this year.

But congrats to Wong, Marshall, and Stew Pidasole.

Re: INDY Stock #1 Qualifier

Autozone engine may be exagerating a little, but we get your point,it's about like the 4.3 started out..
I don't doubt Jim Marshal's engine will pass unless they have overlooked one small detail the truck has a 72 gram heavier assm weight than the vette has.
I have heard that there will be a piston and rod coming out it,but we'll have to wait and see.

I hope everyone makes it through the barn, but I doubt there has ever been Indy that everyone checked legal,it would stink to go be bounced.

He went 1.55 under going less mph in the quarter than in the eighth!

Re: INDY Stock #1 Qualifier

now thats funny, probably thru it in neutral and coasted after the 1/8th lololololol!!!!!!!!
Only to conserve fuel of course, so they would have more beer money.

If its so easy why didnt you do it?

Re: INDY Stock #1 Qualifier

I don't think Jim's motor is legal the way it was in the corvette. There is a big difference in head cc's. shortblock should be fine though.

Mike Taylor 3601 08-30-2012 04:37 PM

Re: INDY Stock #1 Qualifier

The truck does have 72 gram heavier assm. weight than corvette so if is on min for vette it would'nt pass.

Re: INDY Stock #1 Qualifier

OK,
Chip is correct, Bill Plage did a hell of a job with the motor.
Jim sold the Corvette with the motor & spare parts .
The truck idea came from Jim I think, I'm not sure but I know we talked about it over 6 months ago.
Bill spent the better part of two months building the 350 !
I'll put a $1000.00 up that it will pass tear down, Bill is a good friend and I know He checked and doubled checked everything on that motor...Because He knew it would go to tear down,,,,,,
Those that don't know Bill should know that He's raced for 40 plus years and has always built his own stuff.
He moved to North Carolina 20 years ago and for a time worked for Hedrick Racing and Bill Davis Racing in the engine shop,, Enough said,,,,,
Is it a soft combo ? yeah, but no more than the new stuff out there...
Can it run faster ? You'll need to ask Paul or Jim.. lol
Congrat's to Bill , Jimmy, Paul and Guy's !!!
You earned that one !!!!

I always appreciate support from the flying Hawaiian. The piston and rods are new and were carefully weighed before assembly. There are no corvette parts in the motor. I don't take Indy lightly.

Re: INDY Stock #1 Qualifier

Glad to hear you have the right stuff,I had heard it was supposed to be Jim's engine out of his vette w/thicker head gaskets,so that's how assm weight came up.I thought if that was the case the weight may got overlooked in the plan.

Congrat's to class winners, guys that did'nt win at least you were there and had the chance to try. there's alot of us that still are trying to get there.

I suport Ken 100% about my frend Bill Plage.BTW I spoke to Bill yesterday about the talk on Class Racer about swaping the Corvette Engine to the Truck and he said and I quote that engine in the Truck is not from the Corvette and it is a complete new engine and would pass any teardown. CASE CLOSED

Re: INDY Stock #1 Qualifier

If anyone thought I was saying anything negative about Paul that was'nt how it was meant,
I was told that it was Jim's engine in Paul's truck, and when I mentioned assm. weight I did'nt mean that it could be wrong intentionally,I was saying it could have been a detail that had accidentally been overlooked had it been Jim's engine and had just been switched to the truck.
Congrat's on # 1 and class win Paul truck looks nice in picture, again if my comments were taken as negative that was'nt how they were meant.
