London Pro-Am
Who's coming to the last race? Hope to see a large turnout to support them, with all the improvements they've made it should be a great race.

Re: London Pro-Am

Re: London Pro-Am
I'll be there and I know Randall Campbell,Kevin"Bubba"Elliott,Phil Combs are coming to run stock.
They extended shutdown which was already long enough for 1/8 they have 3.90 door cars that don't have a problem the way it was stopping. they added blacktop on spectator side I think you will be able to park on both sides now if not in near future. Some reason there was a bunch of false rumors floating around on internet last year that were no where near true.somewere that if you could'nt stop you run off in snake infested hollar(that's KY for big hole usaully wooded) There is NOTHING wrong with this race track you can see picture on IHRA web site or London Dragway web site it is nice and you will be treated well by Craig and his staff. Morris and Clark's planning on being there? 130 mi from Bowling Green on 80 Cumberland parkway or from Lexington south on I75 about 70 mi. Mike Taylor 3601 |
Re: London Pro-Am
Both side of track are black topped, stanging lanes on both sides, they have black topped a quite of bit on the pit side, parking on both sides of race track, extended track about 200 ft, Terry Cole went 3.90 at 190 this weekend there. Craig has worked hard to attract cars. I hope to see a big croud there.

Re: London Pro-Am
A friend and I will be there in Hot Rod.
|
Re: London Pro-Am
It looks like a nice track from the pics. I will be there Friday.
|
Re: London Pro-Am
guys i have been there, really nice track and really good people operating it.
Dont let the long hill you go up getting to the track scare you, once your there, look out past the staging lanes, your higher then the national forrest that is close by. |
Re: London Pro-Am
For informational purposes only.
London is located in what is known as a moist county. It isn't dry, but it isn't wet either. Restaurants that can serve 100 or more people can serve alcohol to their customers for on site consumption. If you want to buy a six pack for carryout, the closest place to get one is just across the Kentucky/Tennessee state line. That's about 80 miles round trip. ....and the Budget Host Inn in downtown London has vibrating beds. The box on the night stand takes quarters, so if you are staying there and want to get all shook up, bring change! |
Re: London Pro-Am
Corbin is wet it's about 15 miles from the race track, they voted it wet just the other day.
|
Re: London Pro-Am
I will be their with my SS/C amx and at this point three other super stockers and a top sportsman car are also planning to make the trip from north central WV. I hope we get a break from the rain showers on Sat.
|
Re: London Pro-Am
Great track! Probably the best working track in the area... 3.80- 3.90 promods on any given weekend.... Great accutime timing system.... And Craig does whatever he has to just to make sure your satisfied...
PLENTY of stopping room.. if a 3.80 pro mod can get stopped no issue... Right off I75.. No big Giant hill just a country drive in the daniel boone forest.. |
Re: London Pro-Am
I plan to be there Sat. morning to run in Stock.
Never been to that track before. |
Re: London Pro-Am
Good luck to all of my friends from North Central WV. I'm not making the trip to London.
|
Re: London Pro-Am
I heard if Sat.rains out they may run both races Sunday
Mike Taylor 3601 |
Re: London Pro-Am
Two races in one day is what they did at Richmond, and what they were going to try to do at MIR. Not a real bad deal unless you have a 7-8 hour trip home after its done.
Th ey run both races together instead of running one to completion then running the next. Give everybody one TT. Then rnd 1 race one, rnd 1 race 2 , rnd 2 race 1, rnd 2 race 2......etc. |
Re: London Pro-Am
And then if things dont go right (weather, oil, etc) you can wind up not finishing either one. Not such a great idea at the last race of the year, imo. Finish something.

Wow ! I am trying to envision someone entering both races and hot lapping their cars. I wanted to run Sat. only but now I am having doubts whether I want burn 30 gallons of fuel to get there and back and risk a rainout.. I'll just watch the weather tomorrow morning and decide then. |
Re: London Pro-Am
Morning showers wil never cancel a race. Craig and his crew will get the race in if any way possible. Should be a good turnout according to facebook. Quite a few out of division racers on their way. Dont forget about the bracket race after the pro am.
|
Re: London Pro-Am
there is already a pretty good crowd tonight.
I would say if it came down to running 2 races in 1 day they would probaly start earlier,we started @ 7am Sunday @ Clay City to beat the heat and were done by 11:30am if that went right 5pm have the second race done The only way to do that would be complete 1st race then start second race. Mike Taylor 3601 |
Re: London Pro-Am
any news on what is going on at London?
|
Re: London Pro-Am
Div.4 at Crandall ran 2 races at same time. 1st round 1st race then 1st round 2nd race. Really worked out well.

Re: London Pro-Am
they are running tonight.

Re: London Pro-Am
That was a '70 AMX, not a Javelin. Eugene Chipps from Fairmont WV.
There were two other SS AMX's there too from WV. |
Re: London Pro-Am
Sorry, isn't AMX the performance version of Javelin body?
We were pit neighbors with the AMX guys,Brian Fain,Mike Withers And Eugene Chipps all weekend had good time just could'nt remember or did'nt catch Eugene's name. Also forgot to congratulate Phil Combs on setting his first record J\SA Mike Taylor 3601 |
Re: London Pro-Am
Mike it was good to meet you. I enjoyed your company and that of the neighboring Eppersons. You are right on both counts the london dragway folks did a good job and the AMX was offered as a two door coupe with only two seats in 68,69 and 70. The javelins of that vintage had a longer wheel base and a back seat. The fenders ,hood and doors are same.
I too would like to extend by congradulations to Scotty Stillings and my buddy Eugene Chipps who were the respective winners and runner-up in Super Stock in both races. |
Re: London Pro-Am
That track must have come a long way since May of 2011. I was there for the first
Pro-Am, and of the 7 passes I made that weekend, my car spun on 5 of them. It even spun in 2nd gear. I had no time slips that weekend that were anywhere near the same. That is why I didn't go back to this race. |
Re: London Pro-Am
Those AMX's are some bad race cars! Mike, was a pleasure having you as our neighbor this weekend.
Chris, my uncle Jerry's super stock Hemi car 60 footed with the rear wheels 4 out of 7 runs, the track was right. The only thing that I would suggest for next years London is a TOC race. Talk about packing the place! |
Re: London Pro-Am
Congrats to all the winners and runner/ups @ London !
I had a great time racing at my first IHRA race with my street car in Stock. It was fun even if I did go red 1st rd. :o I met alot of nice people there. It was good talking to Mike Taylor and Phil Combs as well as many others. I'll definitely be back next year. :) BTW: I thought the London Dragway staff and the IHRA crew did a great job of getting the track dried and prepped Sat. They stayed on it even with the persistent rain showers. Well done ! |
