Postpone Englishtown

How bad does the weather have to look for NHRA to postpone the event this weekend ahead of time? It would only make too much sense.

The weather looks bad, I can't imagine too many people making the trip with a 40-50% chance of rain. Plus there has to be a handful of racers stuck at Indy that would like to make the Englishtown race another weekend. It looks like a money losing race altogether.

Sorry to sound so negative, I'm just disappointed the weather has taken over my plans once again.

Thoughts anyone?

Re: Postpone Englishtown

Friday 20% chance of rain, Saturday 30% chance, Sunday 40%. Atco was worse than that this year and they got the race all in on Saturday. Can't see cancelling a race with that weather prediction. Now of course it will rain all weekend.

When would we make it up? Next weekend, Charlotte, the following Jegs Sportsnationals, the next week, Bristol Pts, then Maple Grove National followed by the Dutch. You would be screwing racers trying to win the division worse if you scheduled it on top of another close points race. And not really make anyone happy by scheduling it on top of a close national event! So you're damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Let the weather decide.

I hear your frustration with weather issues and the races however, I don't really think they have too many options. The forecast does not look THAT bad. Sunday looks the worst at a 50% chance. I would expect for them to try and finish everything on Saturday like we did there the other year. Charlottle is next week, the Columbus Sportsnationals the week after that, and Bristol points meet the week after that. All events that I think will get cars from D1, especially those that are chasing points at the end of the year. Then you have the Keystones and the Dutch. Not to mention who knows what Etown's schedule is the rest of the year. I'm not really disagreeing with your thoughts, just looking at it realistically from all sides. I'm going to be optimistic and say the weather holds out enough Friday and Saturday that we finish the race Saturday night. The curfew goes to 10PM on Sat.

Looks like Bryan and I were thinking the same thing at the same time. LOL.

Hey, that's why I was asking. I figured you guys would have some strong opinions about it. I would hate to be in NHRA's shoes. It seems like we go through this every year. Too many races stacked up at the end of the year and weather working against it.

I was thinking the same thing about finishing on Saturday. I didn't realize they can run so late on Saturday, that makes it sound more appealing.

No Alky cars so Bob can give us all 3 shots Friday and right into first round on Saturday

Be mindful of competitors who might not be able to make it until Saturday.
Question is.... How late can they run till on Saturday night at Etown?

Ok just noticed in Steve's post the curfew goes to 10pm.

At least leave the fields open so when it does inevitably rain I can get in for the reschedule.

Just wait till next year when the Epping National Event takes away another free weekend to move things. Going to be a tough one trying to schedule all the association races & special events next year around everything. Just hope we go into a drought and get no rain all summer...lol.

The 2010 E-town div'l was adjusted to 1 tt Saturday then run to completion. They got everything but 2 finals done before curfew. That was a great call by the D1 staff since the forecast was about garranteed to be a wash on Sunday. I'm sure the D1 guys will be fully on top of things like they were then.

This forcast could change a couple of times till the weekend , but we've had worse forcasts than this and got the race in.

It's drizzling now at Etown and it's calling for it steady all day . I live in the DC metro area and our forecast for today was sunny and 92 , but its been a steady drizzle since last night and the radar maps show it pushing up the east coast towards Etown .

I dont know about the rest of you but I dont want to sit in the rain or deal with a wet track . This race should be rescheduled to the wed &thur before Charlotte or the wed & thur before Bristol points meet

Etown is one of my favorite places to race but I cant waste time or the money to go if it rains out , setting in the rain or dealing with a bad track wont help NHRA or the racers

Some of us already have to chose not to go back to Indy from div 1 (22) cars

Why move a Div. 1 race to div.2 because it works for your schedule ?

Dave Casey 09-06-2012 12:39 PM

Re: Postpone Englishtown

My opinion is to do anything possible to run the race on the scheduled date. Rescheduling is a nightmare, and there are very few times that you are positive that it is going to rainout.

The end of the year also makes it harder to reschedule because you are just plain running out of time, and there are points implications.

Our division does a great job of making adjustments for weather, Bob and Dave are not afraid of running as much as possible on Saturday to get it done. Let's face it , we are already there, and mother nature is not always in our corner

Next year will certainly be even tougher, especially up in the very northeast with new englands national event and they also are adding a heritage race.

see you saturday morning at e'town

If you were not at etown how can anyone say it was raining drizziling or rained out. We got there at 1:30. Parked in the field . Got in and parked. Had something to eat and drink and the sun was out left at 9:30 no rain no drizzle ! Place was filling up quickly.. The weatherman gets paid millions. And cant get it right 90% of the time.
