Super Stock Honda SS/DX incredible

Congratulation to Carey Bales on his running 8.005 I have to say that it impress many racers out there but also quite a few fans young and old. I was sitting in the stands when the Honda(with chute and plates) ran and these two young man who were sharing the same bleachers as I was couldn't stop talking on how cool it was to see a Honda run that fast. Both couldn't wait to try getting their Honda's to get to warp speed once they got home. This is what it's all about guys and girls, interesting young people in our sport. Carey you made two new fans. Claude

He made a few fans in the lanes, also. Me being one of them. I stood there stunned stupid when he made his first pass. Ok, ok. The stunned part was unique, but that is beside the point.

I wanted to find where he was pitted so I could confirm it was a four cylinder with a turbo the size of a D10 Cat. That car popped and crackled when the lights were coming down and left like a rice rocket.

Re: Super Stock Honda SS/DX incredible

I was parked next to them at Indy. I wondered to my self "Does that thing run over 150 MPH to need that chute?" Until I heard him make a pass. Yes, yes it does!

7.92 at 174 during the first round this morning....like WOW!!!!!

I saw his 8.00 last week and figured if he ever hooked on that small tire it would be truly incredible...and it is.

Johns' car rolled through the beams before the tree came down. Bales then ran the quickest run in Super Stock at this event and probably the quickest ever.

How fast did John G go in his Buick?? Also the AM car went seven something. Tom

If I remember correctly, John Gallina's best was a 7.96. A couple of years ago, at the Dutch Classic, Scott Gove's SS/AM, if I remember correctly, ran a 7.93.

Here is a video of the 7.92 pass.

Also, it appears that Lewis Bloom "stat guy" confirmed that this pass was indeed the quickest in Super Stock history. Pretty cool!!! :)

Re: Super Stock Honda SS/DX incredible

The fact he went a 7.92 on a 7.91 dial in itself in unreal. Also with a 1.24 60' assuming that was the front wheels tripping the clock? It will go even quicker!... Man that looks like a ride, need a in car video...It really looks great and stock "appearing" Even has the third brake light! Great job! Congrats!

We were pitted a few trailers down from them in Indy and I got to see this thing first hand and let me tell you it is top notch and a piece of art work......of course everything Mike Roth at MR2 does is. Congrats to their team, and Im sure there is much more left.

Totally impressive! You make running a turbo car look easy. I'm just curious as to the drivetrain you're using. Since Honda uses great engineering to make their parts super light, I wouldn't think they would have the strength to do what you're asking of them. And, if it's not a trade secret, what size slicks are you running?

I'll bet it even has Honda rod journals! And all aluminum body panels!

If he had one of those sweet clutches, he would probably be in the 5's

They are 26 x 10's this is what he put on yellowbullet:

"The neat thing about the car is it is on 26" tires, the car is a 100% stock chassis car, not mini tubbed or back halved, no wheelie bars, no wing all stock body, exterior, interior, etc....."

ya but a STOCK S2000 engine "from the factory" puts out bout 250 hp from 130 inches --redlines @ 8500-9000 has all the good guy stuff in the engine like forged cranks/pistons/rods 4 valve heads flow some great numbers 6 speed trans 4:10 rear 11 to 1 compression real hot rods---read up on em quick little cars--do not know how much a turbo engine puts out probably well in excess of 500-550 HP

Re: Super Stock Honda SS/DX incredible

I dont think its stock, Its got to have a 25.5 chassis to go that fast.
I know that someone did work on it, and MR 2 worked on it too. I made him a flywheel to put a real clutch on a honda crank flange. I would bet there is alot left in that car. 7.50's?

You have that so right Ed. Congrads to Carey who saw his goal realized. Also to Mike Roth and Devin. That outcome couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Thanks for all the kind words.

It's been fun (and frustrating at times) getting this thing dialed throughout the season. But it's going right down broadway now.

I can't thank Mike Roth (MR2PERFORMANCE) and Devin Pearce (AEM Electronics) enough. Without these 2 guys the car wouldn't make the power that it does, nor would it be able to get down the track.

Here is a neat article on dragzine about the car.

Re: Super Stock Honda SS/DX incredible

Nice article.
When we talked before I thought you were running a FWD. Thats why I thought it would never be competitive in the class. If I was 10 years younger (and $20,000 richer) I'd turn my motor around and run SS/FS. If I go over 125 MPH I have to be in a commercial jet. LOL
Your car really is impressive. I never thought a 4 cylinder would run with the V6 buick.
If you work on the first 330' It will fly.
But you have to get to a points meet or another race and lower your average. You already have tripped the trigger to get your index hit. You are in complete control of it. You don't want to wind up like Scott Kelly. He has a great car but a stupid fast index.

Art, you could always switch to a Skyline all wheel drive w/turbo straight six.

What ever happened to that Challenger convertible that you used to run, ever think of getting another one?

with a 25.5 cage, you'd have to be the size of a Jockey (or Snooki) to get in that thing. Got any pics of the interior?

Last I heard the Challenger convertible was in a garage in Staten Island NY.
Every now and then. I dream about racing another Challenger. Then I wake up all sweaty
Stock has changed so much I would never build another one. People have talked about racing a car with all factory parts. Well my Spirit was one of those cars and a bunch of those on here gripped about it. It was Okay to massaged a set of heads run square cams, and valve springs that could double for coil overs. To improve air flow.
But when I upped the boost pressure a bit. It should have been called cheating.
I'm perfectly happy with what I'm running now just over 300 runs on my gas ported rings and pistons. Doing a rering, bearings, and a new cam. I'll be set for another 3 years.

Carey is one of the coolest and kindest guys your ever going to meet trust me i know first hand. Congrats on all your accomplishments to date including that seven second pass in Indy and article which is way awesome. I firmly believe that if you surround yourself with greatness like MR2 Performance (Mike Roth) and AEM skies the limit and you Carey are a prime example of that good luck with all future endeavours from your biggest Canadian fan!

It's a bit of squeeze to get in and out of it. But there is actually a decent amount of room inside of it. I have a full size 17.5" kirky in it.

Here is an in-car vid (kind of dark, sorry) but you get the idea.

Here is the best picture I could find. Please excuse me, this picture doesn't have the recently upgraded, beautiful rich mahogany steering wheel in it.
