Don Carlton's family will be in Henderson, NC to accept the Ronnie Sox Memorial Award at the East Coast Drag Times Hall of Fame Reunion, Oct 19, 20, 21.
Five of Carlton's Missle cars will be on display, 71 Motown Missle, 72 Motown Missle, 73 Mopar Missle, 75 Mopar Missle (wire car) and 77 Macomb Missle. I'll be at Kerr Lake by 11:00am for the car show and Bar-B-Q, then at Roxboro Dragway (Person County for you old timers) where we are going race some old cars (pre-76). Back to the hotel for some bench racing before being in front of the fire station at 5:30 am on Saturday morning. Hope to see you there.

Re: Don Carlton - Motown Missle
I still have the two Trick Titanium hood pins that Don Carlton gave me from the '72 Duster. I ran them on my 340 Demon SS car for many years. I wish I could be there for this event. Jim

Re: Don Carlton - Motown Missle
Jim, I wish every "old timer" could visit this event. There are racers every year who have not seen old friends for 30 or 40 years. Some cars and drivers are re-united each year. Any racers or just drag race fans who make it please look me up in the race car area.

Re: Don Carlton - Motown Missle
I got to view the 73 wire car Duster at 401K hot rod shop in Anaheim about
two Satudays ago and they are making good progress on the car. |
Re: Don Carlton - Motown Missle
Jim, any amount of time to can be spent talking drag racing with Tom Hoover is time well spent. I spoke with him for about and hour last year and would liked to have spent more time. The book, "Ramchargers" they have for sale in Henderson is a collectors item. Oldfield, Pappas and Spehard makes for good conversation also.
What part of Florida are you in. I will be in Orlando again this year for the PRI show maybe we could meet and talk some old drag racing. |

Re: Don Carlton - Motown Missle
I too plan to be there this year especially with Dons induction. I was lucky enough to be called upon to present Don into the North Carolina Drag Racing Hall of Fame. What an honor it was to present someone who was your Hero into such an event. I grew up around Don from the time I was 8 yrs. old till his tragic death. I had such a great childhood growing up around Don, and when he went to work and drive the #2 can at Sox & Martin I was able to tag along, man I miss those days and I miss Don every day. I look forward to seeing some old and some new friends. Satch Gragg

Re: Don Carlton - Motown Missle
Satch! I looked for you all weekend at Darlington! Every time I went down to the scales they would said you were in the tower cooling off! I wanted to meet and talk with you as the new IHRA D-2 Director. Jim Woods has nothing but good to say about you so that's good enough for me! Jim

Re: Don Carlton - Motown Missle
Two weeks away. This time, two weeks from now, I will be elbow deep in Drag Racing History. Every day now brings new and exciting information for the East Coast Drag Times Hall of Fame Reunion. The thousands of classic, pre-76, cars, street rods and rat rods will be rolling in from the south end of town and the historic drag cars will be rolling in from the north, whether we drive em in, or tow em in it will be a site. For many of us, even though it was 40+ years ago, as these cars come in the memories will be like it was yesterday.
I will have some of the photo albums that I have from my brothers collection of old racing photos, come by and see if your old car is in some of these albums. Did I forget to say that we will be burning some racing fuel and nitro beginning at about 1:30 pm in the cakkle fest. We will work our way up the street, beginning with the gassers continuing with SuperStock/ProStock and ending with nitro at the north end of the street. |

Re: Don Carlton - Motown Missle
Danny, hope you and your family can make it. Remember barbeque on Friday at the lake, then the show downtown on Saturday.
I've already started the reunion. I spoke with a old friend last night, by phone, and we were talking about the old days at Kinston. Remember the old Gas and Modified Production race every year? Heard yesterday, that Arlene Vanke is going to be back this year. Understand he had some health issues and was not sure he would be able to come. |
Re: Don Carlton - Motown Missle
I just need to figure out how I can do the Reunion and the Super Chevy Show @ the Rock on the same weekend!
Only 52 weeks in a year, darn it!:( Lew |

Re: Don Carlton - Motown Missle
Don't know about Super Chevy, but if you are a drag racer, have been a drag racer or just a drag racing fan, I can guarantee you will not go wrong being in Henderson, NC for the drag race reunion.
Roxboro Motorsports Park, formerly know as Person County Dragway, will be opening at 6:30 pm for cars 1976 and older. There is one match race scheduled, but who knows what racing might take place. A few years ago all of a sudden there was the Motown Missle and Sox and Martin on the starting line. Last year we just organize a gambler race with old stock an Super Stocks which included the "Mad Frenchman" maverick from New Jersey. This little 6 cylinder is still super fast. It all makes for a fun Reunion Week-end. By the way, my early reunion is continuing. Yesterday a spoke on the phone with Mr. Bobby Brown, a racer from years ago. Anyone remember the "Goldfinger" Chevelle. |

Re: Don Carlton - Motown Missle
Hemi Moose, nice photo. Let's have some fun. Do you know what track this photo was taken at? Do you know who drove the Dodge, I believe, Coronet in the background with "Royal Dodge" on the back fender.
Some time ago I posted a photo of the Gold Finger on the back of that same transporter. Man am I starting this reunion thing early early this year but I do enjoy all of the racers who either call me or email. Just posted some information about the old Thunderbolts. Bench racing starts at 11:30 am on Friday, at the lake, and ends 3:30pm on Sunday afternoon. By the way, everyone can post your answer to the questions. |
Re: Don Carlton - Motown Missle
I'm sorry I don't know what track that is but here's the other car in that background photo...a '67 WO Hemi Coronet.
