1/8 mile and 1/4 mile corelation

looking at some old NHRA records, it looks like a typical 13.00 1/4 ET translated to low 8's and the speed is about 20 - 23 mph different.
your thoughts
thanks rod in AZ

I think the multiplier is 1.56???

1/8 mile et and multiply x 1.54696 = 1/4 mile et ...it is close but not perfect.............

Re: 1/8 mile and 1/4 mile corelation

I've used 1.59 for us.

I ran a 7.12 this past weekend.7.12 X 1.54696= 11.01.

I assure you that my car can run NO where near 11.01 right now.Whatever formula this is for is NOT applicable to ALL cars.

Re: 1/8 mile and 1/4 mile corelation

Mines pretty close to 1.59, although it definitely depends on the wind. The type of car will affect it too, sticks will run the backhalf better, as will more aerodynamic cars, etc.

I am sure that is true. After running both 1/4 and 1/8 adjust the formula to better fit your car. There are so many other factors involved you will never get it right on but it is still a good indicator when testing on an 1/8 mile track.

I use 1.589. Pretty close for my car.

I have used the 1.8th x 1.56 for years.

I do know most (but not all) race cars achieved 75% of their total 1/4 mile mph at the 1/8th mile mark.

This is the site I use most of the time:

That site has some interesting calculators to play around with, but the HP ones aren't close for me. It says I make about 100 hp more than I do based on my ET lol.

That's because you have a NHRA Stocker Andrew ;)

Those calculations are based on engine/drivetrain/suspension combos that are not totally maxed out and well tuned like yours.

Re: 1/8 mile and 1/4 mile corelation

Generally, the larger the ratio, the better the car et's for it's mph.

Example, if your ratio is 1.5 it does not et as well a ratio of 1.6.

Hello Dwight. Yes Corky was my father. Sorry to say he passed away in March of 2010.

I do still have the Wheel City Fairlane. It is all fresh except for the motor. I was considering running the car some but it seems I need to do some home work. LOL!!
Its good to see a bunch of names on here I remember from the days of racing. I miss this so very much. I hope to be able to race the car some maybe next year.

Lee.

Re: 1/8 mile and 1/4 mile corelation

just thinking out of the box, but you would think aerodynamics would come into play with 1/8 vs 1/4 times. In my mind if you matched up a 1955 chevy with a and new model wind slicing body style, match the cars weigh and engine, I think the wind slicer would be half a fender at the 1/8 and a fender at the 1/4. Aerodynamics should be more of a factor as speed is increased, and should the hurt the "shoebox more than the "wind slicer". Don Jackson

I remember that pass. I remember thinking "the tree must be broke!" That was a HUGH spot!! Is that Warner Robins Georgia? We won the eliminator there. I had to paint the car after that race because some girl on a 4 wheeler came out of the pit road and smashed into the quarter panel.

Warner Robins April 5th, '87.
Photos are 3rd round, I believe.
I don't remember the et's.. I DO remember the 50 mph difference.
We set the record on Saturday @ 17.46
You guys were in @ 10.80 something, I think.

I had a couple hun. on the tree, and tried to take the stripe by a fender. After the break out, it figured out to more like 3/4ths of a car length!

It was fun anyway..Your dad was a class act!

Yea I remember the breakout. Its hard to chase down a car like yours. Mostly in your head. lol seems like forever huh? Yea we were dialed in at about 10:80. Funny thing about that track was the grass in the middle. I always thought that was so strange.
