Southern Style....
Ok. If anyone else wants to promote their region....have at it.
But as a southern born Stock, Super Stock fan it's time for some recognition. Got some old pics? Post 'em here. Remember it's a nostalgia forum. Thanks to Hemi Moose I have a GREAT picture of one of my favorite, early racers from the great state of Arkansas. http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3207/2...e6f_z.jpg?zz=1 |
Re: Southern Style....
I guess anything goes in here right, well I got a question then...I've always heard of some Nascar racers that made their own home brew, but I don't think I've ever heard of any drag racers that where moonshiners, so were there...lol. ;)

Re: Southern Style....
Yeah that's kinda what I figured because all of the other old photos I've seen from the past said either MD or DC on the door or quarter panels...I don't know why I thought it said SC on the door, I guess my eyes are starting to go...but he was originally a farm boy from Goldsboro, N.C. before moving.

Dwight Southerland's 65 that later became Amy Faulk's.
I remember the first time I saw this car at Carlisle Ark. Pure white and not a single decal that I recall. As a kid I had a 64 Malibu Pure Stocker and this was my dream car. http://www.lakelandraceway.com/image...ulk_wagon1.jpg |
Re: Southern Style....
Charlie, I've always liked the looks of the '64 & '65 Chevelle station wagons...I may have to get me one of those some day...but for now lets see some more of them from down south.

Re: Southern Style....
July '74????
I might have been at that one. I was stationed at LRAFB then. Went across the Pacific that december. I remember that "timing tower truck". I think that was the one used at both Carlisle and Stuttgart on alternating weekends. (Lee Taylor?) Thanks for the Grog pics. Now if we can just get some of the green Grog Plymouth Valient.......... |
Re: Southern Style....
jackson ms points race photo looks like sonny cook chevy II ss/ka in left lane. had lot fun there through the years. too bad pearl high school sits on that property now. jim

Re: Southern Style....
I think I was wrong on that date for the Jackson MS points race. That was 1974 and it is Sonny Cook's Chevy II in the other lane.
Charlie, I worked with Lee Taylor on the crew that ran the races at Carlisle and Stuttgart during the 1969-70-71 years. There are some priceless, hilarious stories that go along with that experience!! Cieri Brothers' black Chevelle Wagon behind the Grog in the staging lane picture of Indy. |
