Re: A big weekend for Cobra Jet.
Congratulations to all the racers and crew on their performance. It's not easy and all their hard work is paying off.
Thanks Ford Racing for paying attention. Lets keep putting the Brand X cars on the trailer as they take a shot at the belt. |
Re: A big weekend for Cobra Jet.
ADRL Finals at Ennis this weekend coming up. Weather looks quite nice. Super Cobra Jets should be running well.
Jesse, do you know who is going to that race? Good luck to all the racers. |
Re: A big weekend for Cobra Jet.
There are a couple Cobra Jets for sale right now on a couple sites and one in particular at a very good price. For those that would like to get their hands on one of these factory Hot Rods.

Re: A big weekend for Cobra Jet.
Come on guys, Jesse Kershaw is congratulating the Cobra Jets teams, in no way does it diminish the old Fords and the drivers and their performance. You guys are taking it way to personal. All of the the old cars are a big part of Ford Racing history, but Ford Racing is all about making new history with its current offerings. I have an old Ford also, and have no issues and don’t take it personal with Jesse congratulating the new teams and how well the new cars are doing.
Ed, please start your own thread about hp ratings, this is not the place for it. |

No reason for this always to become an old car vs. new car battle. I'm sure Jesse appreciates all of the Fords that are running well but the emphasis is on the new ones. Last I checked Ford doesn't sell FE or Lima engines any longer..... |

Should have been a teen but couldn't get that good straight hooked up pass in. Broke a tranny on back up run had to use spare that wasn't clutchless and had wrong gearing for this combo. Just to clear things up I have no problem with the New Cobra Jets, I think they are pretty cool. Would like to put my FE in one. |
Re: A big weekend for Cobra Jet.
Great job Jeff!!

Good one Jeff! Congratulations on your dominating weekend in Houston. |
Re: A big weekend for Cobra Jet.
Excuse my lack of Ford knowledge, but what does FE stand for?
|
Re: A big weekend for Cobra Jet.
Hey Darrin,
from what I understand FE stands for Ford Edsel. That's a sweet Chevy 2 See you at the races, Wayne Kerr |
Re: A big weekend for Cobra Jet.
Wrong, in Jeff's case FE stands for FAST ENGINE!!!

Re: A big weekend for Cobra Jet.
Just so you guys know, Ford Racing does support the old cars. Click on the link below to the Ford Racing news letter.
Darrin, FE does stand for Ford Edsel, the engine was designed in the late 50's. http://e.adtrak360.com/q/hOgRAVQ_zCO...OLtNQioKkF636n |
Re: A big weekend for Cobra Jet.
Thanks for the explanation guys.

Re: A big weekend for Cobra Jet.
As far as the FE standing for Ford Edsel I had heard from some of the old Ford engineers at Tripple E (EEE) building including The late Don Sullivan originally it stood for Ford Enginereed
It came out in 1958 same year as Edsel but was used in Mercurys and Ford heavy Trucks ( 361 & 391) class 8 trucks. I worked on a task force for excessive bore war in early 70s E&L Transport had a fleet of the heavy trucks used to haul Ford Products to dealers from the assembly plants. The thinking on the Ford Enginereed was to impress the truck market light, medium and heavy duty. Quote:

Re: A big weekend for Cobra Jet.
The MEL was only used in the Birds for 59 and only a handful were built John Holman got a few out of the Wixom Assembly Plant for his NASCAR Package, in 60 they returned to the 352 FE.

Re: A big weekend for Cobra Jet.
I thought FE stood for all the iron in their intake manifolds.
|
Re: A big weekend for Cobra Jet.
I've always heard the Ford/Edsel explanation also.
I actually think it means Friggin' Expensive because everything costs so much for these things..... |

I am no expert on Thunderbirds but the Vintage Thunderbird Club shows the following production numbers of the 59-60 Bird. 1959 "H" 352 cu.in. Hardtop 54,041 "J" 430 cu.in. Hardtop 3,154 "H" 352 cu.in. Convertible 9,093 "J" 430 cu.in. Convertible 1,168 Total 67,456 Note 1: No separate production figures were recorded for "G"-engined low-compression/export cars: they are included with the above totals. None have been registered with VTCI. 1960 "Y" 352 cu.in. Hardtop 74,547 "J" 430 cu.in. Hardtop 3,900 "Y" 352 cu.in. Sunroof 2,159 "J" 430 cu.in. Sunroof 377 "Y" 352 cu.in. Convertible 10,606 "J" 430 cu.in. Convertible 1,254 Total 92,843 Note 1: No separate production figures were recorded for "G"-engined low-compression/export cars: they are included with the above totals. One hardtop has been registered with VTCI. I see 4322 59 models and 5531 60 models with the MEL 430 being produced. I always thought that the 430 was only used in just the 59 Bird and did not know that it was used in the 60 model. regards, Roland |
