I remember Howard from the old days in East Texas (Hallsville, Interstate 20 and Whitehouse). He was always friendly and helpful, I'll never forget him. God speed Howard.

Re: RIP Howard Stanfield
Really sad to hear of Howard's passing. I'll never forget how he helped us when we were struggling when we first started running stock.I learned more usuable information from him about running a stocker than anyone. It's hard to hear about the "old timers" leaving us especially when I'm getting to be one myself.

Re: RIP Howard Stanfield
I have some many stories. Howard was a hoot

Re: RIP Howard Stanfield
Howard and Greg were very good to me when I built my Super Stock car. Howard always went out of his way to offer advice and tips on what to or not to do. Greg done the engine for us, but Howard was the carb man. He always made himself available for another one of my dumb questions.......I thought alot of him.
RIP Howard Stanfield, you will for sure be missed.......... |
Re: RIP Howard Stanfield
This makes me very sad! Greg, my heart goes out to you and all your family. I first met Howard at Prescott in the mid-70s when he raced the '65 Chevelle wagon.

Re: RIP Howard Stanfield
This just breaks my heart. Howard was one of those good guys that never complained when something went wrong at my tracks. He was there to race. I have many hours of fun memories of him racing at my tracks back in the 70's. Yes, Bobby he had a great personality. He took his win money one night at Whitehouse and handed it back to me and told me to buy some "Real" traction compound. LOL! He knew we had been cutting the "Moose Juice" I'll never forget how intense the racing between him and Coy Wade was. My prayers go out to the Stanfield family. Only God can heal the pain of such a loss.

Re: RIP Howard Stanfield
I spent all day Thursday testing at MIR with my long time very good friend Allan Stanfield, Howard's brother. Just a bunch of old farts working on the cars and enjoying each others company. Our conversations covered just about everything including Howards failing health. Little did we know we would awake to the sad news of his passing. I first met Howard in Texas at the Chief Auto Parts Nats. around 1990. Allan had told him I was coming and he looked me up and we had a long pleasant and funny conversation, the funny part was about Allan :) Even though I had just met him he had a warm and friendly way about him that made me feel like I had known him for years. With that kind of personality it is no wonder he had the admiration and respect from all of his family friends. Condolences to my good friend Allen and all of Howards family.

Re: RIP Howard Stanfield
Sammy,
That post brought back a mental picture of Greg as a little boy playing in the gravel of my Whitehouse racetrack pit area. Greg under the tail gate of the wagon as Howard fixed them some sandwiches. I think he had some toy trucks and cars he played with...just some of my "faded memories" of the Stanfields. RIP Howard |
Re: RIP Howard Stanfield
Not many father and son's could work together and get along as well as Greg and Howard. They helped me alot with a 305 Malibu back in the Hallsville days. RIP Howard. Sorry for your lose Greg.

Re: RIP Howard Stanfield
Sad to hear about "Sarge". I made my last passed at Hallsville in 1974 losing to Glenn Self and that darn 6 cylinder Camaro and have not been to a drag race since 1987 when the Texas Motorplex opened. I've been living in Hendersonvlle, TN since 1989.
I last saw Howard about 2004 when he gave me a tour of the shop and I could tell then than he was slowing down. I've often thought about him and have prayed for him and the family. He will be missed but I'm sure he is in a better place with complete peace. |
