Re: neil vaccarro, geo. smith, carl juliano
I live 4 blocks from Neal, we have no power here in Fresh Meadows, Queens. My brother is in Suffolk County L.I. (Hauppague) He got his power back last night, our race rig and cars are at his house. Luckily everything is safe including Johns house.
I work for Verizon in Nassau County, the damage is incredible across NYC and L.I. I drove around doing damage assesments in the bucket truck today.....its the worst Ive seen in my 25yrs on the job. Hope everyone else is doing OK. |
Re: neil vaccarro, geo. smith, carl juliano
carl, glad you and neal are okay, we leave fri.am to westbury l.i. for 3days to relieve local firefighters, maybe you will get power back soon, chuck

Carl;
When you see Neal, please pass along a "hi" from us here in Florida. I hope you all are safe and get back to normal quickly. Hey Dan Moore, you're #1. :D RIP Mark Graham & WB Hutto |
Re: neil vaccarro, geo. smith, carl juliano
Unfortunately I know exactly what you guys are going through living on the coast. We experience these storms alot more often but the amount of population in that area makes this storm so much more devastating. If its any consolation I know there are several donation drives in my area and help is on the way. Stay strong and prayers sent to all affected.

Re: neil vaccarro, geo. smith, carl juliano
I'm posting from my iPhone, my 5th day w/ no power. Haven't spoken to Neal yet, but will send the well wishes along. I'm one of the lucky ones. Staten Island, Coney Island, Rockaways, Howard Beach and Long Beach, hundreds of homes lost. Breezy Point had over 100 homes burn to the ground. Unfortunately the death toll is rising as the cleanup continues.
Lets keep everyone in our thoughts, including all our racing friends from New Jersey and NY. |
Re: neil vaccarro, geo. smith, carl juliano
hey carl,. i just got back from long beach, every house flooded, the fire station had 6 foot of water in it, they lost all equipt. upstate is rotating crews to man the stations all over southern long island, no water, sewer, power, nothing, at night it is cold as hell, and very dark, hope you guys have it better. chuck

Re: neil vaccarro, geo. smith, carl juliano
Hi Chuck, I can only imagine the scene down there, our central office down there was heavily damaged from the floods, they are still pumping it out. The guys that cover the south are telling me how bad it is. I have been in north Nassau, Great Neck, heavy tree damage an flooding from the LI Sound. It's terrible, we are working 12 hr shifts till further notice. Be safe out there.
PS Neal has power.......I'm still out, go figure!...lol |
Re: neil vaccarro, geo. smith, carl juliano
Thanks for the update Carl. I have become friends with Neal and Gary Federico by meeting them and getting to spend some time with both of them when they come down for the Div.2 races at the begining of the season. This past July my wife, I and 2 of our kids spent a week in NYC so our daughter could go on a campus tour for high school students at St. Johns University. Neal helped us in planning our time while we were there, helped us get a great deal on Boadway show tickets and had us over for dinner one evening after we visited the college.
Gary told me on Facebook that Marty Ganjoin suffered quite alot of damage from the storm including his race car. I hope and pray for the safety and recovery of you all that have suffered from the storm. Hey Dan Moore, you're #1. :D RIP Mark Graham & WB Hutto |

Noreaster coming through tomorrow, they are calling for sleet or rain and up to 60mph wind gusts. Its only gonna add to the mess. |
Re: neil vaccarro, geo. smith, carl juliano
Carl, if you or Neil,or any other racers up there need a place to keep your trailer or motorhome for a while ,I've got plenty of space at the shop lot.
Neil kept his trailer here when I worked on his car. Most of my customers leave their trailers rather than tow them back. It's a pretty secure area, only a block from the Police station. PM me if you or someone you know needs help with this. |
Re: neil vaccarro, geo. smith, carl juliano
Thanks for the update Carl. I'm glad to see that you all are making progress to recovery. Hope the next event doesn't set you back too much.

Re: neil vaccarro, geo. smith, carl juliano
Thanks very much Tom, I will spread the word. Things are starting to look better now that power has being restored. Neal and I are lucky, the people on the shorelines have a ways to go before things get back to normal. You know it was a bad one when the Queens/Midtown tunnel is flooded!.

Re: neil vaccarro, geo. smith, carl juliano
Marty Gangoin is a good guy. If anyone has any info regarding his possible damage please let me know so I can try to help out any way possible.
|
Re: neil vaccarro, geo. smith, carl juliano
John, I believe Chris DePascale posted on Facebook that Marty's race car and trailer was taken to their shop for repairs. Don't hold me to that information though.

Re: neil vaccarro, geo. smith, carl juliano
Queens is getting back to normal (except for the Rockaways and Howard beach). Nassau County is not as lucky, LIPA has not restored power to all homes, tree damage is extensive. And as far as Long Beach goes, thats a total loss, looking at a total restoration there. Its gonna take a very very long time for them to recover. Things will get better, just gonna take a while.
We got 6 inches of snow down here, but its all gone thanks to the warm temps. I've met electric crews from Canada, Tennessee, N. Carolina working in North Nassau. |
Re: neil vaccarro, geo. smith, carl juliano
Carl,
Glad you guy's are ok. Pat |
Re: neil vaccarro, geo. smith, carl juliano
Carl,
Glad to know that things are getting back to "normal" up in the NY area. I talked to a few friends and fellow racers on the island who said some area's are just destroyed and will basically have to be leveled and re-built. Just a sad thing to see on the TV, we got extremely lucky down here in South Jersey and I say my Lucky Prayers everyday. Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving....we really do need to give extra Thanks for all we have because as we just found out, it can be gone in a second! Rob Keister 1198 Super Gas |
