Re: why dq
This was the first real race motor I built for the car. I was running out of time trying to get the motor put together for the race. I did check the valve size, cam lift, bore, stroke, carb, etc, etc. etc. The only thing I didn't check was the cc on the combustion chamber,as I don't have a burret. As it was, I first fired the motor on monday nite after work and left wednesday after work. Seated the rings on the first pass, or maybe the second pass. I had problems with the car all weekend. I finally figured out what the problem was... Carb !!!! gonna need a new one by the way. I decided to go after the record as it is one of the things I always wanted to do when I started racing stock. When the motor was tore down everything checked good, actually better than good, except the CC in the combustion chamber. It was 1.5 cc too small. When I talked to the gentleman that did the heads for me, we found out a two numbers got transposed. It happens, it was an honest oversight. I'm NOT mad at him, I still respect him and have no hard/bad feelings towards him. 1.5 cc isn't gonna make much of a difference on my turbo motor, but the rules are the rules. This is my fault, as I was the one that bolted the heads on the motor and put the motor into the car !! I thanked the Tech Guys Ben and Pat, and told them I was sorry for wasting their time, and would not have gone after the record knowing the issue with the heads. I have always prided myself on being honest, above board, with integrity and morals. I think those that know me would say that I'm not the kind of person to try and cheat or sneak something by and get away with it. I won't even try to use something marginal. Am I disappointed, yes, but more than anything I'm embarrassed that I made myself look like I was trying to cheat. Depending on what NHRA decides to do, I will come back with a motor completely apart, let them check it and assemble it right in front of them, there in the pits if I need to. There are a few things that I still want to accomplish in stock eliminator, if I get to do them, great, if not, it's been an awesome experience, and I want to thank all of you for the fun !! Don't worry Marty, your record is still ok !!! :)

Re: why dq
Rick.............you are a stand up guy for posting this information. I honestly feel bad for you. I knew you felt you were legal or you wouldn't have gone for the record. I wish you all the best.

Re: why dq
Ive known Rick a long time and can vouch for his honesty and integrity......I feel very bad for the rollercoaster of emotions that he went through yesterday.......ALSO !!!! Congratulations to the Buth clan for setting the O/SA record.....I still hold the performance aspect in high regards

Re: why dq
Rick,
That was a heck of an explanation and you have no reason to be embarrassed. It happens and was an honest mistake. I don't know you, but you sure come across as a stand up fellow. Now that you are all buttered up...I need you to write my explanation if I ever get tossed. You will make me look far better than I could. :D |
Re: why dq
I doubt anybody thinks you knowingly built an illegal engine. Nobody would be dumb enough to try to set a record knowing their head was 1.5 cc too small. Stuff happens.
|
Re: why dq
Rick, Get everything squared away and get right back out there for that record attempt. Keep your head up!
|
Re: why dq
Kyle, you are sure putting alot of pressure on that fella, asking him to vouch for you .You have always offered to pay in the past for that kind support.lol

Re: why dq
I have also known Rick for a while now. I agree, he is a "stand up" guy...Don't fret about it Rick. Many of of have had similar experiences.
|
Re: why dq
Gotta agree. Nobody builds an illegal motor knowingly and then goes out and sets a record. That would be more than stupid. Thanks for the explanation. You are obviously a stand up guy. Respect. Jim

Re: why dq
I don't know Rick, but I respect anyone who offers the detailed explanation of what happened.
