#1 Reason: It's only a 75 mile drive one-way :)

still can't figure out how moving that show to a colder climate in the middle of december was a good idea.

Re: Farewell PRI ......RIP...........
More racer central location? Kind of like the distance to a nationals if there were only ONE.
|
Re: Farewell PRI ......RIP...........
I've been working at every PRI since it started (now retired) and the attendance of the show at the Indy location was way more than in Florida. Alot more folks drove in to Indy, even with the poor weather conditions.

Re: Farewell PRI ......RIP...........
#1 reason I'm glad it's coming back to Indy is that its less then an hour away from my house and 30 minutes away from the shop.
I have no urge to sight-see the town when I'm going to an auto event. I'm there for one thing and one thing only. Family doesn't like to go anywhere without me so they wouldn't be Sight-seeing either. |
Re: Farewell PRI ......RIP...........
I look at it like this, there is still a show! At least it's not been canceled altogether so I'm OK with it. It's just about the same flight time for me and my buddies. Don't like the cold weather, but deal with it. Florida is so nice this time of year. We usually go somewhere on Wed when we arrive in town like: Museum of drag racing, Kenedy Space Center, or Daytona for the day, and that is alot of fun as well.
I am just happy that another part of my world (the car culture) and specifically racing is trying to hang on with a terminal condition. See you on Thursday morning at breakfast with Mr. Force. That should be a good time! Wade Mahaffey |

Re: Farewell PRI ......RIP...........
I live 1 hour from Orlando, but must admit that Indy will probably be better for the show, which has appeared to have shrunk little by little since it's been in Orlando.
Second, the success of IMIS has forced many companies to do two show, which is an economic burden. The idea of flying to a cold location from a warm one is not appealing, but if you are serious about doing business then you will go. I'm quite sure the folks at SEMA know what is best for the exhibitors, buyers and others who attend. They will surely lose some people, but they will gain a bunch more. The Midwest is littered with racers who will be within 500 miles and can drive there vs. needing a flight, rental car, etc to go to Orlando. This especially applies to circle-track racers. |
Re: Farewell PRI ......RIP...........
Terry, I know you have no love for the funny car stuff. I would just like to see what he has to say when he has an hour or so, instead of an out of breath scater brain old man pitside interview. I'm sure he'll reach out and thank all the sportsman competitors for funding NHRA and the tracks so that he has a place to race! I'll tell him you said hey....I'll save you a seat up front LOL

Re: Farewell PRI ......RIP...........
I think the "new" owners of PRI made a business decision to combine two very successful events into one, nothing unusual about that. Having the shows back-to-back in two different locations must have made for a lot of "which one do we go to" conversations. From what I've heard, and it may not be true, IMIS is/was more "racer-friendly", where PRI is geared more to the retail and wholesale trade.
This will be my first (and last) PRI in Orlando and it's a toss up on driving to Indy versus Florida. I guess I've become acclimated to the cold in Indiana. Sleeping in a un-heated building at Camp Atterbury in February will do that for you! Hope to see everyone at Thursday's breakfast. Dave DeSpain seems to know what questions to ask John Force, so anything is possible! |

Re: Farewell PRI ......RIP...........
I missed the very first one, then went to almost all of the next 24, having missed a couple since it moved to Florida. Looks like I will not be going this week, just too darn busy and tired :(
Personally I liked it much better at Indy and am glad it is going back. One reason is that I cannot typically afford to fly so I drive and have at least one other person coming along to share the expenses. Indy is a pretty easy drive, Orlando was getting a bit tiring :( I also used to enjoy the brickyard tour so I hope they have it again. |
