Very sorry to hear. John was a lot of fun when he lived and raced up here in Colorado. Was a tough competitor and nice guy. Rest in peace my friend.

From all night teardowns of his T37 up on the mountain at Bandimere, to teardowns of the white Buick in Div. 7.......John could add to every conversation. He will be missed!!

Wow, I didn't know John was ill.I missed our lively conversations with him in The Lounge.
I first met John through Bob Duffy in 1969.John GAVE me a set of headers for my first Pontiac race car...Wouldn't take a penny for them. That's the kind of guy John was.. RIP, my friend |
Re: We lost a long time Stock/Super Stock Racer
John Mason was a Stock/Super Stock drag racer in the truest sense of the word. He competed neither for money nor ego but for the love of the sport. He seemed to enjoy every aspect of every day at the track. He was the kind of guy who put on no airs and offered no excuses. This moment brings to mind a phrase that, to me, epitomizes John's style: "Put on your helmet and get in the car, let's race!"
Going to the races these days is reminscent of going to a class reunion. No matter who shows up, we count on there being enough familiar faces to make that event memorable and worth the effort. John's passing will create a void that will affect us all. We have lost a valued friend and a tough opponent. |

Re: We lost a long time Stock/Super Stock Racer
R.I.P. My friend. Thoughts and prayers to Dan and the familys. I drove Johns Stocker at my first ever National event. For that opportunity I will never forget. Many great memories from our Colorado days, and from our visits recently out west.

Re: We lost a long time Stock/Super Stock Racer
Sorry to hear of John's passing. Had the pleasure of hanging out with him in New Orleans before the Cajun Sports Nationals in 2004. Thank god he was there to drive us back to our motorhomes after a long night of partying! I think Kevin Helms may or may not remember that night!!!! God Bless!

Re: We lost a long time Stock/Super Stock Racer
I saw John during his last few days, He was always positive, saying he was feeling better, helping us load the race car, crawling around under the car connecting tie downs etc.
Hope to put his car in the winners circle this year, I'm sure he'll be watching.... |

Re: We lost a long time Stock/Super Stock Racer
Thank you to everyone for all of the calls, texts, emails, cards and everything else expressing your thoughts and memories about my Dad. It's great to see all the unique characters that come out of the woodwork with stories about my all the funny/crazy/dumb things they did with him. It's like I am getting to know him all over again.
He was a part of a lot of racing history in his 50+ years on the track. It's so great to see the impact he had on people all over the country even after they lost touch. I will miss him terribly, but his racing spirit lives on in me and my son. Everything we know about racing, we learned from him. Thanks Dad. Dan Mason |
