Real Fast Air
Down here tonight it is 39 degrees, 30.29 and rising barometer, 42% Humidity, 28 Dew Point. How fast could you go. I think there is also a 10 mph tailwind at No Problem just to help a little. I bet I could run under the index.

Just hang on, Jeff.
My calculations say .972 correction factor and -1770 ft altitude. FJ |
Re: Real Fast Air
-1770 I could probably run pretty fast, maybe get into the 10's. I bet Greg Hills old E/SA could run 9.90, therefore he needs hp. That big old 780 double pumper likes this sort of conditions. Years ago (maybe 10), I think the air at No Problem was -1200 when Fred Henson went 9.89. (in an old car) in A/SA.

that was about 6 years ago. February divisional. Shaun Leblanc went 8.97 in GT/A then too |
Re: Real Fast Air
Yeah i remember that, he turned it Red first round of the Eliminator. I ask him "why" and he mumbled something and shrugged his shoulders. Bingo 1.41 under, it was really fast that day.

Re: Real Fast Air
I went out to NE Dragway in October once on nostalgia day, it was about 40 dgrees with a Bro of 30.8, the highest I'd ever seen there. I made two attempts but there was no traction and was then told the starting line wasn't treated because they didn't want the breakage problems.

Re: Real Fast Air
That is Awsome air. SS/F 3230lb 8.90@149 wonder how much HP that would get me.Would be nice for the CIC race.

Re: Real Fast Air
My Duster bracket car on a *great* run at Norwalk would go 11.50's, 11.80's at Quaker City in the middle of the summer. One year at the $10K Footbrake at Maple Grove, we scraped ice off the windshield... -1700' below... 11.28! Similarly, in the eighth mile, it's typically a 7.30-7.40 car. A couple years ago in the fall, I put the radials on it at Roxboro and went 7.16... made a couple of adjustments and belted out a 7.09. (Even when bracket racing, there's still a little bit of Class racer in us!) My dad about fell out of his chair when I told him! LOL

COLD AIR DAY at Cecil this Weekend
Our ECIRS Series is having Cold Air Day at Cecil County dragway this weekend.
It will be the last race for the track this year. All test and tune and you can get a lot of runs in. Despite some of the suprise breakage and vehicle acrobatics. Already ran there last month for bragging rights with our club. Met the LT1, Pontiac and Mustang clubs doing the same thing. ECIRS is doing it again with a few grudge races being planned. My 95SS ran a best of 12.88 at 103.64 at full IHRA legal weight. Depending on time of day the DA varied 800 to 1000 below sea level. Dan |
Re: Real Fast Air
Greg, I bet you could do it on the Sunshine, but stopping at that beer joint at the bottom might be a problem. Maybe we should pioneer a jake break for drag racing. That is a Jacobs Engine Brake for the unwashed. That's a new term.

Re: Real Fast Air
I got it figured out. First you use an 8" collector on the headers, and then the application to restrict the valves from opening (which is how an engine brake works), we could use the lifters out of a 5.7 hemi which is a lifter in a lifter. Then tie the MSD to the brake pedal, but a different switch than the two step. Now I just gotta see how you turn on the 'armed' switch for the Jake, and not 'arm' the other stuff. It should be as loud as a 500 Cummins with giant pipes and at a drag strip you would not need to worry about the 'No Engine Brake' signs that seem to appear more and more often. I'm not sure how NHRA might look at two switches on the pedal. I'll think about it.
