"Old Drag Racers"

I just made a post today on the thread about Clem's passing. When Nancy Wilson, East Coast Drag Times Hall of Fame, called be to tell me of Clem's passing, we started talking about how many "Old Racers" have passed away in the 11 years of the Reunion. It is a very long list. During this Holiday Season, if you have friends or even relatives who are "Old Racers" contact them and just talk about the old days of drag racing. They will enjoy telling you about how it was back in the early days. The stories you can hear are priceless and to quote the late Ronnie Sox, "the racers today can't possibly have as much fun as we had back in those days."

I can't speak for the young folks, but I'm still having fun racing! Of course, a lot of the things we all used to do wouldn't go over too well in this day and age. I look back sometimes and think "was I really that crazy?"

So many great memories, of so many great friends, doing so many great things! It's what keeps me going!

Ditto to Lew. I'm gonna get better this year. I have resolved to change no (human) body parts this year. And I have resolved to beat Slate this year. And I am going to finish higher than Kevin on some unknown list. That about takes care of the year.

Jeff, if you beat Slate I hope you will tell me how to do it. LOL

This shot is from a month ago as they did a show at the local vocational school where I graduated from in Shelby,Ohio

You are very lucky! I can vouch for that. I had been racing with my dad "Corky Jordan" from as early as I can remember. We really started getting into NHRA racing in 1978 when he bought the ZOOOOOMER. This was the best time of my life. I really miss being with him but he is with my mother now. God bless them. "Corky Jordan 1943-2010"

Enjoy this time with your son, I know he is!

I'm still going strong. First raced at Pomona with a flag man in '58. I don't know if it's more fun now, but I can afford it more.

Always enjoyed listening to the racing stories and their personal views about the changes that have transpired from some of the older guys such as Pete Kost, Vic Hobbs, Jim Waldo, Don Wann and Dave Wren.

My father was a racer and took me to my first race in 1966. Been hooked ever since. Wow, I guess I'll be starting my 47th season in 2013 !

Re: "Old Drag Racers"

My dad's first race car was built in 1965 and every time it was hooked to a homemade tow bar, an eager 7yr boy was ready to go! I have been hooked ever since. Dad will be 80 early next year and still has the desire and fever. Unfortunately his back will not allow him to drive, however he saw his grandson get behind the wheel this summer. It was really a special time to see the making of a 3rd generation drag racer!

Rich, you're just a youngster compared to Pop Fordyce, I think he's 76 and still kicking our butts on the track!
I'm 59 and been going to the track since '61,and racing since,'70.
