Are all the 66-67s FE powered or are there any 289s out there in stock. Also could a 289 powererd 66 be competitive. I'm not trying to hijack your post just a question.

Didn`t John Cseh make it to the final at Indy in the late 70`s with that car? When was the last time your Fairlane has been raced? As I mentioned before, a buddy bought the S/Stock Wheel City exTony Rainero Fairlane sedan around that same time period. In your photo, I see the Fairlane at an enclosed car trailer, pretty high zoot for a Stocker in 1977!
As for other Fairlane Stockers, here in Div.6, James Quan from Alberta has several Ford Stock & S/S cars, including a green 67 Fairlane in E/SA with a 390. And although he has only had the car out once or twice, Rick Pike (56 Chev SS/NA ) also owns a SS/D 427 4speed 67 Fairlane.

John was very successful with this car. That is why my dad followed it for a year or so before he bought it. We were in the resturaunt buisness back then and had more cash to throw around. lol

Yes, John made it to the finals at Indy in 77, 79 with this car. Got beat both times I think, In 79 the car broke and in 77 he was treed and broke out. He didnt like anyone to cross before him. HAHAH..He won the Spring nationals in Columbus in 78 I think.

The car has not made a pass in 8 years or more as of now. My mother got sick, dad retired, and NHRA is tough on a fixed income, as everyone knows.
Is this the car your friend bought?

Here is a car that was not seen much. I was told by someone that this s probably the lowest mileage "original" 427 Fairlane known. I dont know that myself but I sure hope they still have this car. After building the T-Bolt I dont think they ran this car anymore. This car even has a Bill Roal, "Short Round" pait job.

69Cobra 01-26-2013 11:45 AM

Re: '66-'67 Fairlane Stockers

Yes I believe its like 17 miles. Ray Smith bought it at Fuller Ford in downtown Cincy and drove it to his home in Harrison. He just restored it a few years ago but unfortunately Ray passed away back in October. Ray Smith and Dallas Kelly were racing partners for many years. I believe they started out with a '64 Galaxie Lightweight then went to the 67 you have pictured and then to the T-Bolt that Dallas just finished a top notch restoring job on. They were the "Wrecking Crew".

I've been following your post on selling your Dad's old car. I don't know your situation but I hope you reconsider.

Re: '66-'67 Fairlane Stockers

Dad always tols me that story too. He was friends with Dallas Kelly.
If my A car dont sell I will race it again. I have two boys in college so it would be a few years before I could swing it.
I still am in need of a enclosed trailer. 24' or 22' at bare minimum. Dad sold has Pace 24' before he passed. It was one of the nicest he ever had.

Thanks for the info, and yes, that is the ex Rainero Wheel City Fairlane S/S car that Peter Kossen bought in , I believe it was 1977. That photo you posted was taken by myself at Bremerton Raceway in Washington state in 1980 or 81. Pete bought the Fairlane less engine, and by the time he had the car ready to race, our local track, Mission Raceway in BC Canada closed down, at the end of the 78 season. With Seattle and Bremerton our closest tracks (3-4 hours 1 way), Pete only raced the car maybe 5 or 6 times before he quit. I drove it in Seattle at one race, and I should have bought the car when Pete decided to sell it, but as a broke 21 year old living in a rental appartment, and no local track, even I knew that was hardly practical! Just curious, where did you find that photo from Bremerton?

Sledge won Indy with a 66 or 67 Fairlane in '87? Raced Eddie Bednez in the final if my memory is right.

Yep. Our Dad's were friends also. Dad was just telling me that he talked to your Dad probably one of the last times he had the car out at Edgewater. Dad said that he just came back from out west with it somewhere Missouri or Kansas maybe. Anyways, if it were me I would much rather have the car and gather what you need over time than to not have it at all. Money is just money if that car to you is like our car to me. Its part of the family.

Also, if I were you before you get it back out. Give Blair Patrick a call and have him go through it to make sure there aren't any issues from it sitting. That way you don't go out a loose a high end engine over something. If you want to just enjoy the car with your boys go run some UMTR races (stick shift race) with it. The UMTR South have races at Edgewater, Bluegrass or I-64 I think it is now, Beech Bend and Ohio Valley maybe. If you click on this link http://www.umtrnorth.com/forums/default.asp you will probably have to register but after you do that go to the UMTR South thread and check out this years schedule and go check out a race.

The motor needs freshened thats for sure. I do all my engine work but all I need is a good speed shop. I always had all my machine work done at Holbrooks in Detroit. Keith Craft did the last round of engine work.

We came back from Texas when your dad was talking to mine. We went to the Motorplex.

Rory, you are who I think I got the picture from. I was just now putting that all together. lol

I think one of the green Swedish cars is Jim Waldo's old Fairlane.

Where is the Wheel City SS sedan now? Years after Pete Kossen sold it i found the car by driving every street in the area i'd heard it was in. I didn't have enough money so i told a friend and he bought it. He painted it green and sold it to RJ Sledge around 1990.

Re: '66-'67 Fairlane Stockers

The only Fairlane from US is the white one, ex. Whitney car. The black and green Fairlane is built here in Sweden, white and green is 390 cars, the black is 427. Sonny
