Dan Dvorak 1963 Dodge sold @ Mecum Kissimmee

http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_de...=FL0113-142563 Sold with no reserve for 20,000 looks like a bargain

$20,000.00 would not get you half way there if you had to build one.

Re: Dan Dvorak 1963 Dodge sold @ Mecum Kissimmee

WOW that is SCAREY!
I hope a true S/SS racer got a heck of a deal, and not some over moneyed car collector that's going to put a cover on it, and just keep it.

I would think, it would cost 50K ++to build a car like that from scratch.
( first you'll need to find one)
Like the song says... I may be wrong, BUT I may be right!

It is sad to see such a rare car in top condition go so cheaply. Something so specialized needs more advertising on the right forums to help it bring decent $.

Car worth 10 times that, the Alum front end is worth 20 thou by its self.

I'm pretty sure it could have got a lot more than that on Ebay.

Wonder what the motor condition is? Personally, I would think Jim Bailey's black car would be better to have.

I havent seen that car for a while but that is hard to beleive that it only brought 20k its worth that if it was wore out. Has anybody talked to Dan ?

Re: Dan Dvorak 1963 Dodge sold @ Mecum Kissimmee

It says they spoke with dan and he verified it. From that I have to believe it was being sold again. My hope is that Dan sold it to a car collector for big dollors. And the Car collector now sold it to a racer for a steal of a price.

Re: Dan Dvorak 1963 Dodge sold @ Mecum Kissimmee

Heck, I remember John Galina's 7 second GN sold for about $27K. Auctions are not the best place for race cars. But then again, $20K for this '63 does seem cheap.
The aluminum front end is not as valuable as you think. If it has the hood, probably $10-$12K at best. Realistically around $8,000.

A few years ago Dan was asking $69,000.00 for the car, don't know what it sold for then.

Maybe it was a buy back? At that cheap a price it wouldn't cost much to protect your car. It doesn't seem possible that anyone, no matter how desperate, would let it go for that price. After the cost of consignment($1000) and the sellers fees of 8% ( I think), it wouldn't be worth it.

Tree is right, Dan sold the car to pay hospital bills, dont know what he got but it was sold.

This was very hard to watch. Dan and I go way back. We haven't always agreed politically but I love Dan like a brother. Hard times sometimes force you to do things you do not want to do. It pains me to see this happen. I have some very fond memories of this car and Dan. Dan, if you read this..... love you man, mean it! Jim

Carmin Russo from Buffalo , N.Y. bought the car a few years back . Carmin died and the car , along with other nice cars in his collection were bought or consigned by a local on line car dealer . A friend of mine told me a few weeks ago that this car was going to auction and may be a steal ...wish I had listened a little better.

Re: Dan Dvorak 1963 Dodge sold @ Mecum Kissimmee

The car was sold on a Bill of Sale without a title. This scares off a lot of bidders. I don't know if the car lacks a VIN plate or the title was just lost. Titles can be obtained if there is a VIN on the car. Car would have brought much more with title.

Re: Dan Dvorak 1963 Dodge sold @ Mecum Kissimmee

Dan sold the car to a private collector. I dont know if it went directly to the C Russo collection or if he purchased it second had from Dan. I looked at the car over a year ago and we couldnt come to an agreement of price. Then i was the highest bidder on ebay less than a year ago, but it did not hit the reserve. I was on the phone to bid, but because of other investments $20k was all i could go to.

The car was race ready as far as motor, trans and diff being gone over as i believe it was destined for the US Nats a few years ago prior to Russo getting sick (and passing). While the paint was cracked badly in the rear, the car overall was in great shape, it just needed a little interior attention and some spots on the front end rubbed out (smoothened) There were no real dents but definately some low spots in the aluminum (except one headlight ring, which should be repairable as its not kinked).

I own a 66 Belvedere Hemi (11,712 miles) from his collection and was looking forward to adding this beauty to my collection! It would have gone great beside the 65 Belvedere (clone of a 64 max wedge driver!)

Someone got a great deal, i wish i could have added 10k to my bidding for sure!

Ian

If this is the correct car and driver

Remember him and Kenny Koonce in the finals at Englishtown

Both A/SA cars and Dan got the best of Kenny that day !!

Hello. I was in Florida last month and bought Dan's car over the phone from Mecum. I am thrilled to say the least. I can't wait for Reliable to deliver the car to Maine. I raced in SS/IA from 75 to 77 with the Hambuger/Auger 340 Duster. To make a long story short I put my little head in the wrong place became a Dad and went to work. Now fast forward 35 yrs later here I am with a race car again. I really would like to race again. I spoke with Dan the morning after buying the car. He had no idea it was being sold at Mecum. He was kind of in shock. I hope to go back to Florida soon to meet with him. I will leave it original and won't sell the car to anyone except back to Dan if I ever do sell it.

A few weeks ago Buck Kinney's Chevelle convertible sold for $50,600. at Barrett - Jackson here in Scottsdale. The selling price of both Dvorak's car and "The Buck Kinney Special" seem well under the money..Is this an indication of the declining value and popularity of Stock and Super Stock racing?

I would think these prices have more to do with the economy in general. Less disposable income for most + motivated sellers = better values for those with cash on hand. $20k was a steal for Dan's car. Try to find decent aluminum pieces, then pay a qualified sheet metal man to straighten them out. Hold the Bondo please.

I think it's a safe bet to say that you're far from wrong, and most definitely right. That car looks so cool, and race ready, I wish I was the buyer...I'd park the Cavalier and race that for a while....I just noticed that Tommy Auger bought it...lucky guy!!!

...and if Dan doesnt want it, sign me up. I have been attched to the car for almost two years, we just couldnt come to an agreement of price, and when it finally does go for auction i dont even have as much money as i once offered to pay for the car. i was your competitor on the phone bidding at Mecum! it would go great beside my Hemi car and Max Wedge Clone belveders. it is a wicked car. Congratulations!

I think that it has more to do with selling a race car at a collector car auction. I doubt that the Batmobile would have sold for over 4 million bucks on Racing Junk, or in the National Dragster. Its seems like the druken millionaires at Barrett-Jackson are more inclined to snatch up Max Wedge fakes, tributes, re-creations etc than one that is actually a race car. Bucks Chevelle likely would have sold for triple if Reggie Jackson had signed the trunk lid.
