weight question
if i was to run O/SA what would my minimum weight be? or N/SA what would it be?
|
Re: weight question
I guess O/SA 3620, N/SA 3505 with driver, Mite need to known year and motor of car to be sure. Tom

Re: weight question
Weight break x NHRA rated horsepower + 170 for "nominal" weight of the driver.

Re: weight question
what about if my car is in J/sa at 12.77 in order to run the class up K/SA do I factor based on the 13.00 break or the 13.49 break for my weight that i need to add? I think that was the question Duster had he was asking for me.

Re: weight question
Following up on what Jim said -
If you check the classification guide for the year, make/model and combination you plan on running, the published factor (for example your 12.77 would be a J class rounded down to 12.50) is the key to determining what "natural" class you fall in. Use the guide to find out what the NHRA horsepower is for your chosen combination (there may be a few for each different engine depending on whether certain engine parts have been superseded) and then use the formula to come up with your minimum weight for that class. You always have the option of adjusting the vehicle weight to run one class higher or one class lower. Lew |
Re: weight question
Right thats what im confused on though. How do i figure out how much weight to add? do i use the 13.00 or the 13.49 for K/SA weight break? I have my weight for J/SA "the natural class" but I really don't think I am fast enough to make any head way in that class.

Re: weight question
Jim and Lew told you the right way to figure it.
Now I'll tell you the easy way. If you know the correct weight for J , just take the factored HP, divide it in half , and that's how much weight you add... You are moving down another half pound class> 12.50 to 13.00 |
Re: weight question
Thanks a lot Mark. So much info to get through for all stock requirements I was starting to think i was losing my mind and couldn't understand basic math.

Re: weight question
It is rather confusing a first, Hang in there.

Re: weight question
my car is a 1970 plymouth duster with a 318 2 barrel. i am hoping to run N/SA but was wondering on my weight
|
Re: weight question
Duster 318, N/SA 2850, O/SA 2945, P/SA 3130 with driver. 318 at 185 hp. Tom
|
Re: weight question
I've been racing a Duster for years, and I can't see how you could get one with a 318 in it under 3000 lbs. with driver in legal stocker trim. Duster 318 I would shoot for O, but if you don't remove everything possible and put light weight brakes etc, you'll be closer to P weight.
If the car has frame connectors,a roll bar and 8 3/4 rear it will most likely be between 3000- 3100 lbs without the driver. Good luck, George |
Re: weight question
i havent had the car weighed yet im hoping its closer to N/SA but i dont have a problem running O either. it has a roll bar in it with a bar underneath to. tom i thought the hp was 230?

Re: weight question
im thinking it will weigh about 3100. im 17 years old and only weigh about 120 pounds so that will help me out some haha
|
Re: weight question
Duster 318, 230hp is the factory hp, nhra rated at 185hp. Tom

Re: weight question
thank you for all the help you have all been very helpful
|
Re: weight question
since the minimum weight for n/sa is 2850 and say the car weighs 3100? can i still run N or do i have to go up to O or P?

On your weight/class question, you cannot exceed max weight that would put you into next class up so your answer is yes, you have to go up to O or P. |
Re: weight question
i got to weigh the car this weekend and it is 3140 with me in it. is that ok for P/SA?
|
Re: weight question
That's pretty good. My dart is 3205 with driver.
|
Re: weight question
is it good for my class? i think a dart is a little bigger than a duster
|
Re: weight question
Pretty much dead nuts for P/SA. 3130 is your minimum... Just curious have you tried to run the 318 with 2bbl. ??
|
Re: weight question
ok thats what i thought to. yes i have that combo right now it seems to work fine
|
Re: weight question
Have you gone under the index (13.45) in legal trim with race gas..etc..
|
Re: weight question
yes i ran a 13.17 yesterday
|
Re: weight question
That's good. Just curious, how did you get around the tight piston to valve clearance ?? I only had .020 on intake and .045 on exhaust and which intake do u have. The 2951185 or 3698431??
|
Re: weight question
i was very close also we barely had enough clearence. i have the 2951185 intake
|
Re: weight question
We have run that close forever. NHRA has become more liberal about
incidential contact on the piston than the old days. I would rather sink the valves a bit or thin them a bit than give up any more cam lift. PM me Sam if you need more hints than I can tell you on here. Irving Family Racing 2010-2012 O/SA Recond Holders |
