COPOs - Where are they ??

I haven't been on here for awhile but just checked the entry list for the Gators S and S/S and didn't see 1 COPO. What's going on? Where are they?

Re: COPOs - Where are they ??

That's Pretty Sad. I was ssoo anxious to see how they would do. Did most of them go to people who NEVER intended to race the; but rather hoard them as an investment? I don't think they will be as good of an investment unless they do well on the track and draw a great following. Did NHRA unfavorably factor them? I don't know, but certainly am disapointed to not see a lot of them out there competing with Ford and MOPAR. Chevrolet need to get them in the hands of good racers who agree to campaign them, or else make them street legal. I congratulate the one that is there racing !! "Just sayin' "

I was reading an article last week where it stated the 2013 COPOs will not be available with a supercharger.

I wonder if that will hurt sales ?

I know there are some that will participate, but there are 69 of them out there !!! I'm afraid that Chevrolet needs a better way to determine who gets them and it should be dependent on the persons desire and ability to campaign them, much like they did in '63 with the Z-11s; and such that they will be a threat to the CJ Fords and MOPARS. I'm afraid that many were just investors that never had racing intentions.

I think only 67 they keped the first one, number 69 Rick Hendrick bought for chairty. The 11 was the draw for the 2013s anybody hear anything on who is getting one. Tom

The Drag Pak and Cobra Jet are no different. You really don't see a lot of those cars racing compared to how many were built. The manufacturer has no control of where a car goes once they sell it. Heck, I have a Drag Pak that has hardly seen the light of day!

This is also the first full season for the COPO. You have to keep in mind that the deliveries didn't start until late last year. Not a lot of time to dial in a new combination. I think you will see a lot more racing as the year goes on.

I must be completely clueless. I thought the DP's, COPO's and CJ's were all ready to hit the track upon delivery and be competitive?
I am not trying to be disrespectful, but what has to be done to these cars to hit the track? Patterson had a COPO out last year before Indy if I recall. Heck other than adjusting the seat and being acclimated to the car, what else are you having to do after spending that kind of money on one of these? Hell if I win the lottery I want to know what I am getting myself into on one of these!

That's what Patterson has. They put the new Holley system in it, like I'm told the 2013 comes with. Got the start up, idle, burn out and launch cleaned up at their shop Monday. Was very rich with the GM 2013 427" COPO calibration. Going to the track here Friday to verify the WOT dyno tuning. Very nice cars. Very fast right out of the box. They put the original engine away, and built a new one. Should be at No Problem next week.

Eight second Stocker like it came if you want to lean on it.

Glad I don't have to race them heads up.

Guess your fast now. LOL

The 2009 and 2010 Drag Paks were "kit cars". Body in white, engine and a boat trailer axle for loading into your trailer. 2011's came as a complete car.

The 427 COPO an 8-second Stock'r with the Powerglide that came in it? Don't think so.

Patterson, Connolly, etc. changed over to a 3-speed immediately.

Connolly had a FAST ECU & system installed also. Patterson still had the GM MEFI ECU, with a few tuning tweaks. Engines were untouched.

Understand...just wish GM would put a 3-speed auto from the factory on the COPO's (at least on the N/A cars) so the racers don't have to spend additional.

From experience, I can tell you that my COPO was very good as delivered. That said, there are quite a few things that can be done to improve the performance.

As far as qualifying. Yes and no. Depending on which combination or class I was in and how hard I leaned on it.

Come to think of it, I haven't exactly seen you rotate the earth....(LOL!)

I don't claim to. I know what those cars can do. Would your old car would go a buck twenty under? You can now.

I am not sure what your problem is and this conversation isn't going anywhere good, so I am going to bow out. Maybe we can have a real conversation at a race track one day. Peace.

Don't really understand your problem, but OK.

BadBanana 03-18-2013 03:15 AM

Re: COPOs - Where are they ??

I understand they will need some changes to keep up with the CJs but they need to be at the track to determine what changes it takes. I thought form the start that they probably wouldn't have the trans/converter exactly dialed in, and it looks like it will take wheel tubs for the Super Stockers. Both of those items could have been worked out long before now. I would assume the camshaft timing could be improved, as I'm not sure how detailed Chevy got on testing various valve timings and induction tuning, and sometimes that combo needs to be different than what you find on the dyno to launch a converter car correctly. Chevrolet did a great job with the original engine packages but now they have to hit the track often to tweak and change/modify. Just my opinion.
I'm sort of disapointed that more aren't out there. just sayin'.........

$90k prox gets you a Powerglide transmission in one of these new cars.

I suppose traveling to Milford for a stick version will afford one a Saginaw M15 three speed?

Mercy, what a deal.

If I recall correctly, Paul had one of the first "on track" videos of a COPO, way back in August. I was on vacation in St. Thomas when I found it on the internet,,, shouldn't be too hard to find it. It might possibly be the only black COPO out there that's actually racing.
