Hight crossed the stripe first, but we're still waiting for an official time - the 2 second something that came up on the scoreboard, was not quite right... Hight was fast, faster than Pedregon's 4.07, but not that fast...

Word comes there was a spider web in the left lane sensors, which resulted in the timing malfunction. Video clearly shows Hight is the winner.
Ambrose has 9 wins, all in Comp Eliminator, and Aragona has five. Ambrose got the dreaded LB3A or Left before third amber on the tree, and sat at the starting line for a few seconds to watch Aragona drive down the track on his way to the winners circle
Then does anyone know what happened in the comp final car went red sat there while the other guy went down the track more spiders?? NHRA is going to have to get a bug man on there team or a cleaning lady. Tom

Yeah, Same thing happened to me in the same lane second round at the Points race there a few weeks ago. Difference was the computer said I got there second even when my competition (a first class guy) told officials I clearly took the stripe. Result? No video so I lost. Spend a couple of bucks NHRA and send the exterminator out once in a while! Jim

I was not there. But, did it look the same as what happened to Mike and Jimmy in Pomona? If so then why not a rerun? Remember it happened for one, but not the other? They blame a spider? Interesting......

I find it rather hard to believe that there are spiders infesting the timing lights!! However if that is the case then NHRA needs to check daily as part of the pre race maintainence to make sure that there are/is no " obstructions" interfering with the photocells--- and especially for the final rounds!!!!--This is the 3rd time in 3 races that something like this has happened--once at Pomona and twice at G'ville that I heard of!!!

Had a big spider in one of the photocells at the starting line at Houston. It was causing some bogus ETs and 60's. first I had heard of it.

Steve I was hoping you would chime in on what happened in the comp final, did Ambrose roll the beams? I was really hoping it wasn't a repeat of what happened in Pomona SS final.

Not a repeat. There's video on espn360.com, and you can very clearly see Ambrose move backwards out of the beam. It's at around 5:24:15. I wish it was on YouTube so you could step through the video and confirm that the red light doesn't display prior to the stage light going out, as happened with the Super Stock incident.

Here is the deal. If I understood what he told me correctly on the phone, was that he staged very shallow. Stage light flickered. Something not real common with LED lights. He let off the brake and moved in a touch deeper. Problem is that once the brake is released, the shift timer is activated. The timer shifted the trans into 2nd. There is not enough time to pull it back into low, get back on the brake and reset the timer before it is time to go. This explains the small movement. Stuff happens. No conspiracy theories here. Better to be the last round runner up than to be the first round runner up. I didn't really want to explain this as he felt pretty bad. He has won 9 of these things, so he knows how to get it done. Regardless of the outcome, Steve and Bob are my heroes. The 10th will have to wait a little bit.

I was shooting from Aragona's side and it's very difficult to see through the camera, especially with a wide angle, but it appeared to me that Steve was moving backwards when the tree came down.

Dang Steve that's a real bummer. I was really rooting for AAH team, I thought you might have the inside story because I thought you may have been down there with them. Are they headed to Belle Rose this weekend? Your probably wondering who the heck is this guy, I'm the youngest guy usually with the Arnold's, and had a great time listening to your stories about your dad at the US nationals last year.

I would like to go to Belle Rose but I lost my Cajun dictionary. Without that I wouldn't understand a thing they are saying, not that I could if I had it on me. Dad will be gone 2 years in a little more than 2 weeks. We all miss him like crazy, but we get a good laugh out of some of the "stuff" he pulled or things he would say. He was a gem. Look forward to seeing the Arnold clan at Indy.
