NHRA National Records

Are they no longer going to be printed in the National Dragster?

That seemed to be one of the cool things that went along with setting a record??

I second that they still should be there they take all the good stuff out.

i agree, that was the coolest thing, was to show your friends or co workers your name in the back of the magazine....

They want you to send the online link to your friends....

Send a letter to the editor! Anybody have an name & email address for the editor they can post here?

Re: NHRA National Records

Furthermore: A record should stay in print/online until busted by a fellow racer! I hate looking at ND and seeing all those minimums. It might revive things for record setting performance. Those blanks mislead readers into thinking, there are no participants in those classes.

In this day and age of Political Correctness... NHRA has decided that it's not fair, or right that they publish your success for hard work in their publication... From now we all have to be treated as equals. "We just want everyone to get along."

I had set records in 1975, so my wife saved the National Dragsters from back then. I went to Indy with the ND's in hand and back then they had racer profiles as a feature of each issue. I tried to find as many of the profiled racers I could and gave them the issue with their profile in it. Roy Hill was one of the profiled, I handed it to him and you could knock him over with feather. He told me that he never saved any of the old media. I gave out about 10 of the old ND's, it was great!

Maybe we shouldn't keep score so nobody gets hurt feelings...

Back in the Junior Stock days most NHRA member tracks would give current record holders free entries............

I concur!!!!
(The new and Improved) Once again has proven to be a flop!
It seems "they" just keep improving things until they don't work at all, OR just plain suck!
It would seem to me, that this is just another sign that "we" are on our way out.
Why can't things that people "like" just be left alone?
What was wrong with it the way it was?
I don't get it!

Re: NHRA National Records

You didn't set a record, it was the slo pokes that allowed such a low bar, the track developer that gave you a place, the sanctioning body that oversees and records, the parts suppliers, the fuel refiners, the gubbermint....oh yes the gubbermint...

Sorry, I just couldn't help it

We've always kept a semi current issue in the bus for records and especially indexes for all the classes. I see no value in ND now.

Got this from Phil this morning, just minutes after I contacted him:

Hi Ed,

While we will not be printing the indexes in each issue because they can change (especially in Comp) between printing, we have resumed a national records listing beginning with issue 07, which is going to the printer today.

Phil

Cool! Thanks Phil!!

especially since they're putting in lots of other "important things" like honeymoon articles, etc.

Most likely my buddy Brad Burton - 2010 in E/SA.

Brad came to my mind too...just not sure he did it in the year(s) he won the World???

I personally don't get the National Record award as it stands currently. If there were points or $ tied to it, I'm sure everyone would try to set them. I hate looking in the back of National Dragster seeing 50% of the NHRA Records at a minimum.

As far as I know, it's always been that way. If not always, it's been that way for a very long time. Minimum means you must run 1/2 second (or more) under the respective index in order to lay claim to that record. Unless of course somebody else has accomplished that feat. Then you must knock him off his throne! :D

Records never expired years ago so it never reset to a minimum, which is .500 under the index. Kind of takes some of the luster away knowing the record you set will expire, hardly makes it worthwhile. I can't think of any other sport where records expire.

When a car was refactored out of a class ,or where it didn't weigh enough for the new hp at the time of the record setting, then the record went back to a minimum.
It used to be that way..
Today? Who knows? Probably too much work for those ol' boys.

Re: NHRA National Records

Last time I raced Stock I had the E/S record. I was going to set the D/S record about the time NHRA decided expiring records after two years wasn't good enough; they changed it to an 11 month rotation! I said screw that, I wasn't going to set a record, go through teardown and have it given to some slouch who could only go .500 under. It didn't take long for NHRA to go back to the two year rotation.

Back in 1972 the SS/GA record was 11.43 and I won the Miami Open with an 11.24. I raced at Pomona and won class short shifting and shutting off early. During time trials I ran 11.28 shutting off early. First round of eliminations I broke out running 11.327 on the brakes back than you were allowed .10 under until the final and there was no break out. NHRA changed the record to an 11.35 minimum.

Re: NHRA National Records

Is there always a teardown involved in IHRA with the setting of a National Record? I ask because we just put a gear, converter, and tune in our '04 Corvette which will run B/PS. According to Nitro Joe's stats from last year no one else competed in this class and there is no record now either. Out of the box we hope to easily be .5 under with the potential for 1.0 with headers and more fine tuning. However, we plan for now (until we get our trailer this summer) to drive to the track.

Just curious about if a teardown is always mandatory.

Re: NHRA National Records

I'm glad that they have decided to put the Record back in the ND. I was disappointed to see that the records didn't stand until broken by another competitor or reset. It would be nice to see an incentive to set the record other then hanging out in the tear down tent with the Techs and name in the books for less then a year(I think you get 1 point also). Even though just having my name in the record books is enough for me to go out set on kill. But that's certainly not enough for some others to let it all hang out.

Thank you. Guess I better figure out how to take a cylinder head off ... and buy that trailer a little sooner in case I can't get it all back together.

Yup. If you set an IHRA record you will come apart either before or afterwards. Normally before. It's a good system. Jim
