Duttweiller GTO

Any of you guy's know the history of the one?

http://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/cto/3703624252.html

Selling a 1974 Pontiac GTO NHRA Drag Race Car. This was a National Record Holder in NHRA from 1991-1995 in the M/SA class. We are helping an estate sell this vehicle and it has been parked indoors and taken care of for years, same owner since 1996. According to the time slips it runs in the low to mid 13's and is a turn key car, everything is built just like it should. It runs and drives but is obviously not street legal with the slicks on it. Have a notebook that is 4 inches wide of receipts for this car so let us know if you have any questions. Call Tom to set up an appointment to see the car,

I remember an article in Bracket Racing USA Magazine installing Borla mufflers at that time it had a third peddle.Cr

That car belonged to Tim Imhoff in Division 7. When Tim ran the car it had a four-speed. I think that Tim lived in Ventura County, relatively near Kenny Duttweiler's shop. I haven't seen Tim in several years but he was always a pleasure to chat with. He had a penchant for unusual combinations, cars that were capable of setting records just about any time he chose. I remember a Pinto station wagon and a turbocharged stocker also.

I really like that car. Wonder how it got up here to the Northwest, and has never been run since?

Re: Duttweiller GTO

I think that's the combo Bill Rink runs. Very fast in SS/L & MA. I think he said it wasn't so good in stock....250 in SS and 277 in Stock...whatta deal!

So, you lose 27 HP with a cam, intake, lightweight pistons, crank...go figure.

NHRA at its best

Yep. That is Bill Rink's combo. VERY fast...current National Record Holder in SS/LA

Randall, I'm hoping that you don't spend too much time feeling sorry about the horsepower on that combination. The first one of those I saw in Stock was at Fremont in 1979 and it was running O/SA. A fair number of people have beaten up on the 350 GTO combo in the last 35 years and not the least brutal of that group was Mr. Rink himself.

My sentiments exactly! I always loved the X-body GTO and it was only made that one year.

There used to be a blue 74 Ventura GTO Stocker from the Northwest years ago, possibly the same car? I seem to recall the owner was Chuck Salarno (sp).

I'm pretty sure this is the Git-Go car of Chuck Salerno, originally from upstate New York, then Montana ,I think.
I believe Tim Imhoff bought it from him in the mid 90's or from someone during that time frame anyway.

Mark is correct, Chuck & Barb lived in the Rochester area and raced Div. 1 in the 80's

Now we just need Tim Imhoff to join in then. I has thinking his car was blue originally, like yours, Chuck.

Hey, Chuck. It's good to see your post show up. Haven't heard anything from you for a long time. Hope all is well.

Mark, I don't remember Tim's car in blue but I know that Larry Maxwell raced the blue "Git Go" in Division 7 for a while after he sold his own '74. Tim's brown car was that color and had a 4-speed just about every time I saw it. The combination had been already been pushed from O/S to M/S by the time Tim got involved.

Bill Rink walked into my pit area at Indy in 1994, introduced himself, and asked how to go about picking a good car for Stock Eliminator. We talked for a while, took a stroll through the Stocker pits looking at cars, shook hands and he left. The next time I saw him, he had a GTO and was wreaking havoc on the qualifying sheets all over the country.

Yes Chuck, it was all your fault. Mike McDonald was the other guilty party. Thanks to Parsons and Myers, the madness continues.:)

Re: Duttweiller GTO

This thread is turning into a real reunion !

Chuck , I guess I assumed Tim's car was blue..Maybe that article was in b/w.

Larry's 1st car went back to Ohio ,and Larry Slone.
I now remember him racing the GitGo car afterwards.

Danny Ashley's car went to Richard Desmond, who still has it ,I think.
Mike MacDonald's car went ??? Not a hatchback, I don't think.

We need to hear from Danny and Tim here.

So, where did Tim's car come from,...and where did Chuck's go to after Larry Max ?

BRINK 03-30-2013 02:08 PM

Re: Duttweiller GTO

Danny's car went to Scandinavia. Mike's car was sold to Dick Desmond.

Sloan's car is still in Michigan. Terry Nagle owns it. Denny Nelson in Minn-

esota also owns one, not sure where he bought it, possibly Maxwell's. I'm

the idiot that put 27 H.P. on the combination over 12 years. That's why it's

in Super-Stock now. By the way Travis, you had the quickest run in 2012

in SS/LA at Brainerd - - great run with your Camaro.

Re: Duttweiller GTO

Rink....you need to buy that car.....from what we have learned the last several years with that engine...I bet we could get another 27 HP on it before we quit!!

BRINK 03-30-2013 03:24 PM

Re: Duttweiller GTO

The combination needs Desmond and Nelson to write letters, that'll help the HP in Stock. I haven't run the car in Stock since 2007. Still own the fast Parsons engine that got all the HP. By the way, my car is an original one owner GTO - hatchback - 4 speed car. I'm the second owner. This year will be the 19th season on the car - all with Parsons power.

Bill, I just thought about your correction and came back here to fix it.

Walton quit , I guess ...Where's that car?

Re: Duttweiller GTO

Mark, Bruce Walton's car was originally campaigned by Mr. Rock Running, I believe that Bruce still owns the car in Ohio. He hasn't run in NHRA Stock Eliminator for a number of years. The last I heard, the car is parked. That car has been a race car from new. Many of the 74's were cloned from flat hood Venturas, however. That car only came with the 350 cu. in. 2 bbl. V8. The GTO only offered the 4 bbl. V8 with the functional ram air hood scoop. What makes the combination effective in Stock is the intake is the same as the 400 ram air engine. It's almost too large for the 350. I'm referring to the 4 bbl. intake.

BRINK 03-30-2013 05:54 PM

Re: Duttweiller GTO

Jack Matyas had a quick '74 also. I believe his caught on fire, however.

He sent it back to his brother back east to work on it for him. I believe it was then sold.

Re: Duttweiller GTO

The fellow that has the GTO listed for sale would like to speak with Tim Imhoff, I don't have his number saved anymore so if anyone could forward it to me or let Tim know about the car maybe he can contact them.

The seller also mention that the car does not have a stock legal engine in it and has a 9 inch rear.

BRINK 04-02-2013 10:15 AM

Re: Duttweiller GTO

I have a complete legal rear axle assembly with Mark Williams components and various ratios. Will bolt right in. Also NHRA legal 350 motor.

Denny Nelsons car is the Maxwell car. He is putting together a motor now and may have it out this summer. The car is in the same shape as when he bought it. I think he is planning on racing his Mustang this year.

I cant remember who but someone raced a Dark Blue 74 GTO red interior and really nice. I raced a White 74 GTO in IHRA and NHRA in div 3 that I got from Buddy King that was a nice car and fun to drive.
