stock and super stock racing

Why doesn't NHRA go back to running off the national record like in the "old" days for stock and super stock eliminations. Use the CIC like comp to eliminate 'sand bagging". Get rid of the now glorified bracket racing style of todays stock/ SS racing.

Car counts would plummet

Nice well thought out idea. You think people are slamming the brakes on at 1000' now, imagine how this would change things...

One problem would be with the proper teardown. West coast rules East coast rules ETC.
If you want to stop the guys running to the 1000' mark. It's simple, take out the 1000' clocks.
Nhra can't estimate what a combo should go based on the 1/8 mile numbers.
2 cars in the same class can run way different 1/8 mile numbers. But at the 1/4 mile be almost indentical.

Very simple. There are East coast rules, West coast rules. And the most important rules, The lawyer in your pocket rules.

The answer is very simple: if you run off records there won't be any racing except rich people! That's one reason why it was changed to index racing.

I can run 5 or 6 under with my Max wedge because I do it all on my own budget; the killers in the same class can run a full second or more under because they have sponsors and money, why would I want to continue racing?

In stock if NHRA did their job enforcing the rules. The high dollar guy would not have as much of an advantage.

The high dollar guy will always have the advantage in heads up racing. No matter how you look at it.

Are you suggesting that the "high dollar guy"......................well,................... ....what is the term.................................not legal?

The racer that has the most money to spend will have the fastest car. Always been that way and always will be that way. There are no rules to enforce that will change that. The racer that owns the slower car can either lift at 1000ft and pick a safe ladder spot or chance getting their butt kicked in a round 1 heads up race. Ask me how I know that.

Sorta. Not that money doesn't help, but money cannot buy everything. Hard work and innovation plays a major role, also.

The most under- rated combo in S/SS will ultimately be the fastest.

You just have think outside the box and not follow the herd.

Spending your money in the right places is extremely important.

True, but a real innovator never stops. So all you did was buy last week's or last year's innovation.

I agree. Just giving everyone a hard time!

I'm suggesting that it costs quite a bit of money to make an illegal part seem legal. Such as the multi thousand dollar valve job. And what happens when the faster car plays games and gets the "safe" spot too.

Even with everything by-the-book legal, it's hard to beat money. A serious well funded S-S/S'er who buys and tests 5 times as many cams, converters, gear sets, headers, wheel/tire combos, etc., etc., is hard to overcome. not to mention, lots of dyno time and testing, always fresh slicks....
