Newbie rant.....of sorts

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum after having creeped it for the last few months. It is probably one of the most entertaining forums out there, particularly the "live from" threads.....thoroughly enjoyable. My name is Al and I hail from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. I run a Super Comp car with my son out of Division 5......I own a majority of the car, he drives all of it!

About a month or so ago, I finalized the purchase of what I think will be a fine F/SA Duster out of Mesa AZ. The transaction went well, the seller was amiable, even a VIN# discrepancy was sorted out and corrected.......very smooth transaction. The timing was even perfect for me to look over the car, as I came in time to attend the National event at Firebird (glad the track will continue).

To my chagrin and stress however, I put in an order with a very reputable transport company to pick up the car and after 5 weeks it still sits in the seller's garage with no definitive date for pick-up. Further compounding my woes is the fact my drop off point is near Fargo ND, likely the highest flood zone area in the US right now. As it stands, I'm looking for a new drop off point (Minneapolis, Omaha, Marion SD) away from the flood zones, some committment from a shipping company, the ongoing goodwill and patience of the seller, and a lot of luck!
Fargo's National Open is next month and the Divisional in Brainerd is the weekend after!

I'll end my rant now, as it's not really a way a person should intro themselves. It feels good to get it off the chest however....thanks for listenin'. - Al S/C 5768

Surprisingly I call fedex for moving my cars, they have a super reliable auto shipping co. that will tell you what day your car will arrive and within 24hrs will tell you the time it will arrive.

My super gas car went to BC. The guy sent down a flatbed tow to Southern California and picked it up from my driveway. He did tell me it's a bit of a challenge to go through the border with the car. Don't know if he had to pay any import fee or declare it.

I have used Reliable many times to move cars without a flaw, race cars and others. I have not ever had to cross the border, so mayby thats an issue.

Welcome to S/SS racing.

Once you get the hot rod, you couldn't ask for a better race than the National Open at Top End (old Interstate Dragways) to get your feet wet. This is a 2-day event with a 'special' Midwest Classracer's payout in place, on top of the National Open payout!

Al: Something does not seem right on this deal. You are dropping the car off near Fargo, ND, so crossing the border is not an issue for the trucker. I live 160 miles south of you and we have always been able to get cars and motorcycles picked up or dropped off. I feel 5 weeks is too long to expect anyone to wait for a pickup. I know there are problems with trucking companies not used to going into Canada because of DUI convictions of their drivers limiting access, but that is not an issue for your shipment. You may need to call another company. I know Reliable has a large presence in the Phoenix area during the BJ auction, but I am unsure during the rest of the year.

Al.

If you're interested we live in Aberdeen, SD 200 miles southwest of Fargo 70 miles off I-29. We are having something shipped from Arizona here in a couple weeks as well. If you're interested you could call my father and he can put you in touch with the carrier we're using. That way he'd have more then just ours coming up this way.
His number is 605-226-3167 at work until 5:30 or 605-225-1917 after that his name is Jerry.

Everythings appears on the up and up....the carrier is in fact Reliable, but I can't seem to get them to commit to a date. I will border clear the car myself which isn't a big issue, just some red tape. I took Mark's advice and have a bid auction set up with Uship.

Al: If you can get the car to Sioux Falls, S.D. (4.5 hrs S. of you on I29), I can offer you a safe, locked, inside storage situation. -Al Nyhus

I used the Uship website a few times. Worked great every time. Much faster than the big corporations.

Thanks to everyone who communicated or PM'd me with suggestions and offers. With how you guys rallye to try and resolve a problem on a website, I can only imagine how you must be at the track! Indications that the current state of sportsman racing is in great shape indeed!

Thanks to Glenn Person who's impeccable timing brought the opportunity by him to trailer the car back to Canada!
