LIVE from Dunn-Benson IHRA Div 9 Pro-Am

Beautiful day here at Dunn-Benson Dragstrip in Benson, NC. Sunny and a cool dowbtrack breeze, helping to dry the grounds. 61F, 36%, 29.95, 252' DA making for fun times! :-) 28 Stocker and 32 Super Stockers made the first lap

It's warming up quickly -- 65.4F, 31%, 29.93, 562' DA following Super Stock's second sessions. Four or five Stockers were directed to the tech trailer today, spot checking part numbers and such, which was good to see. No problems there that I've heard. Think they looked at Taylor, Truell, Warren, and a couple others.

In important news, there's an ice cream trailer here offering a hot fudge chocolate cake Sunday. I slowed .03... you figure it out. :-)

Missy Phillips' fresh paintjob on her Nova, done by her son Cody, looks ohenomenal. It's one of those 'pictures doesn't do it justice' jobs, but I'll try to get some closeups later.

Larry Trogdon ran a career best this morning for the provisional pole. Don't know yet if Randy Daniels was able to knock him off in the second session. Larry had a bunch of suspension work done, and it's just smooth, fast, and controlled now. His is another Cody Phillips paintjob.

Combo race tonight, and Pro-Am eliminations at noon tomorrow.

This midnight report is brought to you Tim Sloan, Lee Truell, Scotty Galyean, Robbie & Tabitha Draughon, Jeff and Mike Longhany, Brandon Peterson, and anyone else who had a hand in getting the Duck Tape Volare race-ready again. Bizarre break... felt like a rear when it let go off the line, yet I drove it back! Had all gears, but when in neutral, felt about locked up. Autopsy in the coming weeks.

Congrats to #3 in the World Brandon Peterson for his S/SS Combo win over CCRA Champ Jeff Longhany! Tonight's weather was nippy and mostly dark.

Eliminations at Noon tomorrow.

Thank you so much for the pictures, Michael! (And the other stuff too!)

I really enjoyed the weekend at Dunn-Benson. The 'wagon seems to like the changes I'm making and if I could find a way to get my head out of my "fourth point of contact", I might start cutting a light I can be happy with!

I also was very glad that I finally got a chance to spend some time with one of my new "hero's", Jim Woods, who autographed my Lee Norton-designed "Borrowed Money" T-shirt, and I was also happy to see one of the all-time good-guys, Danny Waters, Sr. back working as an IHRA Tech Official, 'bout darn time!:D:D

It's always like a family outing every time I go to the races, and this weekend was no exception! Hope everyone got home safely!

Lew

I set them up as a playlist so you can just watch them straight through, but couldn't embed it here.

Re: LIVE from Dunn-Benson IHRA Div 9 Pro-Am

Thanks for the videos. Looks like some good racing during the week-end. As you watch the videos so you see a very sad reminder of the state of our sport? This event is in the heart of "Southern Drag Racing." The spectator side stands are completely empty. Maybe a dozen people in the stands on the pit side and a few along the fence. Before I posted on this thread I did a poll last night at a classic car cruise in at a local restaurant to see how many people knew about the event. NOT one knew that a week-end long IHRA event was taking place less than 35 miles away. I can look at the stands and tell the tracks are not making alot of money. I was at Fayetteville Motorsports on Sunday, could not go to Benson on Friday and Saturday, some good race cars but NO spectators. How do the tracks expect to continue with the racers being the only ones paying. I Know the story about "it's posted on the internet," but everyone don't go on the internet looking for a drag race. With all of the radio ads started for Z-Max there will be people there. I know because some who did not know about the race at Benson already knew and were making plans to go to Z-Max.
