Houston Sportsman cancelled

Dick Lux just called me and reported that "all remaining Sportsman Classes have been cancelled".

Also told me that no rigs can be removed from pits untill after final round of Pros.

Have a nice day

We were also told that it was as if we were never there. Apparently I didnt "actually" win first round. And I didnt "actually" spend over a thousand dollars to race.........Ill just call my bank and tell them that didnt "actually" happen.

I agree...total mistreatment yet again by NHRA to the sportsman racers. We can all bitch, we have that right. Until we all do something together to take a stand on how we are treated, it will continue.

Is this unprecedented..?

Another Reason when I could ..I didn't.

Do. This. Anymore.

My feeling of disgust ..is prob shared with many weekend warriors.

4.05 Diesel
Tolls. For 5th wheel trailers.
$$ Food .Lodging. Loss of work days.
Pissed off spouses.
Missed baseball and soccer games.Your kids understand. :{
Hail.Rain.

Go the fk home..nothing to see here.

Being disrespected by Pinheads that run NHRA,>Priceless.

Just today I was daydreaming in Church about buying /building a 327/275 *67 Nova class racer. I got a line on a Station wagon that runs 4 under for a decent $.

I love the way it fits..but the hell with it.

Wouldn't want anybody to put in a long day to get everybody run off.
Heck, just send them all home.

I hope everybody can get their rigs out without tearing anything up.

Re: Houston Sportsman cancelled

Just talked to Ronnie Marlow and he said almost everybody had to pulled out with wreckers. Sure am glad that race never took place, just a figment of our imagination I guess!!

Wonder what happens to the Class Trophies they handed out???? Maybe have to send them back!! That would really be the rare trophy that was won at a non-existant event.......Ebay here they come.

that was the biggest mud hole ever.you would think that the angel bros that are in the paving buss.would lay some something back in the pits. even the alky guys were under water sad verry sad.it only storm's like every houston nat's.they should pit us at the ovel track.oh but that would make to much sense! they told me not to leave but i did any way. oh they might kick me out well we wern't there anyway right.

What does any one think about trigger runs and the AHFS data?

Do those go away as well or will those stick? I hope so...

I am sure some of you know why I am asking - maybe Joseph can tell us

NHRA has had prior experience in handling this type of situation.
Can't remember the year, but it was back in the 2000's, we were all stuck in the sesspool at Houston, and our D4 director of the time told us all that we could not move any rigs, anyone caught trying to get out would be disqualified from the event, nobody was to try to get out. Someone asked him : How do we get home? His answer was "They have planes, buses, taxis, you might even try hitchhiking". I was standing right there and that is what he said!

I remember that event - it was one of the two times I have been to Houston - 199x something
- maybe 1994

Good lord! I can't believe this (what happened to all you guys). The live coverage was a joke, on ESPN. They killed to feed on the internet, when it went live on tv. I was not impressed AT ALL! I know that no one can do anything about the weather, but seriously... To screw over the Sportsman Racer like this is just plain and simple bullsh*t.

Re: Houston Sportsman cancelled

If we would have waited for any help from the track people getting pulled out of the mud we would still be down at that sh#t hole. It's absolutely unbelievable how the sportsman racer was treated at that race. Sure makes it easy when it's time to go to another one of their races to just stay at home.

There have been several memorable debacles down there, but the one I was in reference to was definitely not in 1994. Maybe someone else remembers the year, but I want to say it was 2006. I had to hitch a ride home with another racer, if not I was slap a** afoot!

this was a good test for them to see if they can eliminate the sportsman completely from the nationals. I feel bad for the guys and gals there.

I don't think they have ever cancelled sportsman eliminations before (i.e. not run them at a later date), have they? I can't remember this ever happening. Wow.

Re: Houston Sportsman cancelled

I want to say it was 2006, and that next weekend another turd floating rain came. There were still rigs left from the previous washout still stuck.

I cannot believe that they told the sportsman racers "just act like you were not here"......!

You know how to fix that everyone stay home at the next national event, it is a swift kick you know where to treat sportsman racers like this. It would only take 1 event with no sportsman classes showing up and it would get their attention.

I remember that race. We went back the next weekend to get our rig out. Sure am glad I didn't go to this national!

As I am getting older I am finding out these national events are a joke.

Re: Houston Sportsman cancelled

One would think the logistics of transporting tons of equipment over 800 miles to Atlanta before Friday had something to do with it but then any reason why the D4 staff couldn't handle the reduced number of racers on Monday given the good forecast? Historic amount of rainfall didn't seem to stop NHRA from proceeding with their 'historic' live coverage of the PRO's. It seems incomprehensible that they wouldn't have just run off the other classes today, same as they did at Gainesville and other places that Mother Nature rendered the unpaved pits useless.

Refunds?

WoW !

If the NHRA doesn't refund or re-schedule the sportsman classes, then that is a disgraceful shame on their part.

I feel bad for those that got stuck in that mess.

Re: Houston Sportsman cancelled

The disgrace in all this is that the sheep will be lined up the next time the gates are opened at a NHRA event, ready to take the same kind of screwing. If you guys want it to change you are gonna have to take a stand and stick together to make a statement, but we all know come the next race, people will be in line two days early so they can park a half mile from the staging lanes for the next 4 days and make a few runs. You cant be a victim if you are a volunteer.

Re: Houston Sportsman cancelled

Other than crashing your entry, blowing it up, having a medical issue, or having to leave due to something happening back at home...this has got to be the worst luck while at the races. I had it happen to me in 96 or 97 in Columbus. But they did'nt cancel till Sunday. Had to have the tractor pull the truck out, then go back and pull the trailer out. The mud was turning up on the tires like a farmer turning up a field with a disc. I know how the racers monitor the weather. But, I wonder what would happen if a racer(s) saw the weather in advance, and decided to leave the track for higher ground so to speak. Could he then just come back in, since he had all of his crudentials? He may not get his same spot back, but then again he might. If it got bad where he was, he may get a better (dryer) spot. The biggest problem would be getting those rigs out from a very tight formation. I always said that they should arrange the parking in a diagonal position, instead of straight in. This would allow easier egress and would provide a swift evacuation if needed. Getting your rig out to avoid a water situation is one thing....getting it out due to a fire close by is another!

What does it cost to make a single 1/4 mile run at the Spring Nationals you ask? Tow rig fuel, food, time off from work, race gas(that I still have most of that),and a lot of work cleaning up everything upon returning home. Comes up to about 1.00 a foot to make one run and then be told to act like it never took place! At least we had a lot of time to do some bench racing with some friends.

We are going to withdraw from Atlanta. It is looking like rain every day and I am just not feeling very "sheepish".

There is a double combo race Saturday and Sunday at Bowling Green that is a lot closer to home!

Larry that seems to be the answer, at least for us.
We race the ASRA assoc races here in the northeast and have a blast!
Haven't raced at a national event for years and don't miss it one bit.
My advice: support your local stock/ superstock assoc and have some fun.
Dan.

It would only take 1 event that no one shows up and if that does not get their attention then nothing will.

And most all the sportsman racers are the back bone of the event. JMO...

Most of us have jobs we are not wealthy (yet we aint eating putting out of our windows either), yet spend that kind of money and be treated in that manner is totally uncalled for. And also I call BS on making everyone stay to the end of the event.

Maybe I am wrong but I was raised to always treat people the way you want to be treated and it all comes back to you.

I just talked to Jennifer in Cali, it looks like we are getting a transfer of entry (because we would love to go to another one of the f-ing debacles) and all crew and spectator tickets we bought. 7-10 business days.

MadMax404 04-29-2013 11:56 AM

Re: Houston Sportsman cancelled

I do believe mine has already been updated. Atleast I have a transfer credit listed.

I have also been hearing that NHRA was thinking about taking back all class winner trophies. I have not seen anything come across from nhra themselves about this but the rumor mill was sure is flying. You're not going to please everyone on a decision, but canceling an event? That pretty much pleases no one.

Oh I am glad The pro's have decent weather today so that they can test!!!

Re: Houston Sportsman cancelled

Its real simple guys NHRA doesn't give a s..t about sportsman racers. You hear it all the time but it's a fact. I was there in Houston for the debacle. The worst part for me was they kept us there all day before they said anything so we wouldn't leave. Word was they even threatened fines for dragging mud into the lanes. I wish we could use the credit for divisional races instead.

Some one should get all the sportsman together that were there and check the rules well then consult an attorney . Their has to be something that can be done for the sportsman racers. NHRA just likes to put it to all of them . Who does NHRA thinks pays for all the insurance ? This is only my 2cents.
