Dallas Raceway Closes
Just announced ... Dallas Raceway has closed and IHRA been forced to reschedule the pro-am event scheduled next month - May 18th & 19th.
Really bad news .. such a great track and an excellent alternative here in East Texas. |
Re: Dallas Raceway Closes
Not again...
Any reasons given Bill? I am not seeing anything on IHRA or Dallas Raceway website's. Any idea where and when for the scheduled division race? thanks Ken |

Re: Dallas Raceway Closes
Wow! I'm speechless. We were just there bracket racing about two weeks ago and spoke to someone in the tower that said they were doing well and paying their bills and things looked good. ??? Car count was seriously low that day. The points meet was going to be our first class racing outing; just picked up our trailer last weekend as well as all necessary towing equipment. What a bummer! That's only an hour from us and was going to be our favorite place to race; first class facility.

Re: Dallas Raceway Closes
Ken and Molly Hall. Class act raced with them for years. Shame the bank pulled the plug.

Re: Dallas Raceway Closes
The best I can tell we are in a wait and see what happens situation. It is a changing by the moment, dynamic negotiation and I think no one knows just now what will happen.
I "HOPE" IHRA has jumped the gun in ref to moving the D 4 race and bracket finals. It may be that IHRA could not take a chance on the negotiation's going on for a length of time so they are covering their schedule. [and that is understandable] I expect most of us were caught off guard by the news because it seemed everything was rolling along OK. In addition, we as racers are anxious to learn the outcome because of making plans and setting schedules. The only option I see as of today is cool off a few days and look for a positive outcome. Bottom line, the ongoing deal is private and at this time the public is not privy to the information. Plus, private and confidential is a normal situation when working with a loan holder to acquire property. It is a great track with great potential. Since it is the Eastern most track of the Dallas area it draws well from East Texas. This season has been like a who's who of the old Hallsville days. |
Re: Dallas Raceway Closes
Do we have any Thursday morning updates?

Re: Dallas Raceway Closes
Thanks for the updates.
I am sending Frank K a message now, asking him to keep race there. This is one of the nicest tracks in the country, as far as the actual track goes... smooth and hooks. Rest of the place is nice too! Lot of concrete parking, if you have never been there. Hope the post above about the new owner and Ken and Molly are 100% accurate, as that would give the racing community some peace of mind, and maybe have a better turnout. Ken |
Re: Dallas Raceway Closes
I talked to Frank today and he told me they made a new offer to the bank to stay open. He was still waiting to hear their answer. I hope something can be worked out.

Re: Dallas Raceway Closes
The Pro-Am will be rescheduled. It will be at Dallas Raceway but at a different date(TBD). Once IHRA got notice of the cease operations date they had to cancel the trophy orders and staff assignments for the event and trying to get all that together in a week and a half is just not feasible(along with Dallas Raceway staff has to put in a new timing system as it failed this past weekend). Keep an eye out on IHRA.com for the future date.

Re: Dallas Raceway Closes
This is from the tracks website
GREAT News this week. What a way to start a week, after the week we had last week, Dallas Raceway is alive and should have a long life. Ken and Molly will continue to be a fixture in Crandall, TX with Dallas Raceway. After all the rumors last week, and folks jumping the gun, Dallas Raceway no longer has bank issues with the previous owner. We are proud to say, we are here to stay. Thank all of you that stood beside us and prayed for us, we certainly appreciate it. Now that we have the good news, the not so good news, we are still having computer issues on the timing equipment and we are working to get that fixed. We hope to have it fixed this week. As soon as we know it is fixed then we will post what is happening this weekend. With exception of this weekend and the IHRA Pro Am that was scheduled, which we are working to get it rescheduled now, the schedule is still fixed and we don’t anticipate any other issues with the schedule. Stay tuned and we will be posting what is happening this weekend as soon as we have the timing computer fixed, Ken does not want to post an event then have to cancel it if the computer is not fixed. We are here, and we are still the Concrete Palace, the Dallas Raceway! |

Certainly is good news ... the facility's quality stands without question. Lets hope for a respectful car count for the rescheduled Pro-Am event.
To reference a much less attractive alternative, here's a shot of Hallsville Raceway today. I can't imagine Dallas Raceway (with so much concrete) becoming a subdivision, but I could picture a Lowes, Walmart or other big box store snatching it up at a bank sale. |
Re: Dallas Raceway Closes
Hope it's just a bureaucratic snafu but DRC just posted (again) that Dallas is closing and the Pro-Am being moved....

Re: Dallas Raceway Closes
DRC is just behind the 8-ball by about 2 weeks. The track has been purchased, they are actually going to close the doors this weekend to do the neccesary upgrades to the timing system and other things Ken and Molly have been needing to do but couldn't. The track is OWNED by a racer and will stay a race track and they will have a Pro-am and the bracket finals there.
There was a bidding war going on which is how this all stemmed. A trucking company wanted the facility to use as a truck depot and luckily Mike Adcock stepped in to save the facility. |
Re: Dallas Raceway Closes
After hearing of more and more tracks closing down, it is great news to hear that Dallas will be saved!! Kudos to Mr. Adcock!!

Re: Dallas Raceway Closes
I just saw this on another site: (North Texas Bracket Racers)
"Date Posted: 09:26:46 05/08/13 Wed Author: MOLLY Subject: HALLS NOT RUNNING DALLAS RACEWAY JUST GOT THE RUG PULLED FROM UNDER US THIS MORNING WHEN MIKE ADCOCK CALLED AND DECIDED THAT HE AND HIS FAMILY WILL BE RUNNING THE TRACK. THEREFORE THE SCHEDULE THAT WE HAVE POSTED WILL PROBABLY CHANGE. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WHO SUPPORTED US,AS WE ARE BROKENHEARTED TO LEAVE WHAT WE WORKED SO HARD TO BUILD UP" (no warranties implied or expressed) |
Re: Dallas Raceway Closes
The IHRA release announcing the re-opening of Dallas Raceway and the new date for the Summit Pro-Am event (July 12-14) is now posted on DRC.
http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCSt...68078#indextop The timing computer has already been shipped to CompuLink for repairs and a spare is on order. |
Re: Dallas Raceway Closes
There you go it will only be 104 in July in Dallas. Good times.
