80 Corvette

I am wanting to turn my 80 corvette street car into a stock eliminator. I think i have most of the blueprint laid out how i want to do it but i cant seem to figure out battery placement and fuel cell? any ideas? or pictures would help if anyone has any. I saw a 79 this weekend but forgot to ask him about these two items.

Thanks,

PJ

stock battery placement, second battery on the passenger side. 3 gallon vertical fuel cell under the stock filler neck

Re: 80 Corvette

PJ, I run stock eliminator with an '80 Vette and used a '66 battery box and installed the battery under the hood, NHRA approved as this is safer and weight is being moved forward. It is much easier to charge, remove, etc.

10 gallon cell. Access through original gas door.

You can't add a crossmember to mount your cell in a Stocker and you can't relocate the upper shock mount either.

Looks like you need some rear suspension updates to be a stocker.

And the leaf spring is missing! Thanks Adger.

Re: 80 Corvette

Billy,
Not too sure about the rear frame rail It doesn't look stock to me. I thought you could use 2X 4 or anything for a rear frame rail in SS, but had to have the stock rear frame rails in Stock. Needs the stock crossmember to mount that tank and transverse spring. Bob Pagano had a bunch of pictures of different Vettes that were built legal. He needs to see them before spending big $$ on something that NHRA Tech will frown on. BUT, Are they frowning on anything now?
I think Bob's E-mail is: l88bob@aol.com,

No it is not a stocker. Just wanted to show how I fit a cell in the car. I have no Idea what the rules are for a stocker. Sorry if I misled anybody.

If you aren't going to build a "Legal Stocker" your good to go.. have at it.. Looks good for a wild streeter or bracket ride.

I don't think L79racer runs a stocker. Coil overs are a no-no and YES you do have to have the "buggie spring" but you can get creative with it. Not sure about what billy said about cross member.

Yes its not a stocker. Its just a street/strip car. I added a 1x1 square tube between the rear frame rails to support the fuel cell.

No I gave in and went with a glide the last two and a half seasons and put a couple hundred passes on it with out breaking anything. I will be going back to a stick in the 66 though. Its like child birth I guess, with time you forget the pain. LOL!!
