Just wondering if anyone out there is planning to go to the National Open at Lewistown Raceway August 23-25th? Hoping to meet some fellow class racers...

First I heard of it, is it an NHRA meet or what ? I havent been there since the early 80s, didnt even know they still raced there after the new Acton track was built. Woody Woods, Billings Mt, Junior Stock racer from the 60s

Oh yeah, the track has still been running, just got repaved last year, new bleachers, sound system, concession stands, and staging lanes too.

It's an NHRA Div. 6 National Open, on the Canadian tour...

Awesome track, new improvements, cool setting. Great race to plan for. We will see you there! Maybe we could get some extra money thrown into the Stock/Super Stock combo race.

Just checked it out on Google Maps,,, pretty good sized facility. Didn't see any shade, ought to be really hot come late August. Hope you get a decent turn out,, our National Open at Bremerton is coming up this next weekend. Our car counts have been down a little,,, hope that's not the case for this one.

Its our first one ever...man I hope it's good. Sadly, there isnt alot of shade, but hopefully we can come up with something. Temps are usually low 80s around then.

Mike, that's a great idea. I will see if I can get some local sponsors to kick in. I'll be making my debut in Stock as well as working the mic.

YES….IT IS A SERIES OF 4 RACES BETWEEN 3 TRACKS IN CANADA AND LEWISTOWN…1 RACE AT EACH TRACK FOR THEIR OWN AREA CHAMPIONSHIP….NHRA IS ENCOURAGING TRACKS TO DO THIS TYPE OF PROMOTION TO KEEP THE SPORT GOIN AND GROWIN…LOVE, STOKES.

I heard this thru the grapevine from a guy named Stokes in Great Falls Mt thru a buddy named Doug Grieves that left stocker Buicks for Bonneville Buicks, the inline kind. He holds about 9 records including a 245 record in his turbo, injected, inline Buick powered streamliner

Cars already coming into town...gates open tomorrow at 8am. I am jacked! If you read this, come on up to the tower and say hi, it's my voice you'll hear all weekend announcing and I love added info or shout outs! I can't wait to see the cars and drivers from around the Northwest and Canada...it's going to be great!!!

stock /super stock are listed as "combo" and comp isn't contested at these races

If I was able to I would have mine there. If I were to venture a guess I would think 12 -30 ,.....hopefully more.

Stk/SS is combo...as of today we had 4, but that was only cards turned in for test and tune...lots more haulers than that in the pits and more pulling in this evening. I'm anxious to see what tomorrow brings...decent showing in Super Comp, Super Gas, and a couple Super Streeters too. Lots of folks wrapping up harvest and school started around here this week too, hoping for much more tomorrow. I will keep you updated!

Cant make it this year, but will try for next year. Please post qualifying and results if you can. I'll be checking in as we travel to get my daughter settled into university this weekend. Only races I really wanted to attend were our local (Medicine Hat) and Lewistowns national opens this year. Still an outside chance to attend div race in Salt lake if nothing else goes sideways.

Mike Corbett and Dane McIntosh made it to the finals, we only got 6 in combo, 4 stockers (Dane's B/S Camaro, Corbetts F/S Malibu, an E/SA 67 Fairlane, and a F/S Chevy II) and 2 SS, an SS/J Malibu and an SS/BS Achieva. I will post results as I go, the car count was disappointing, only 75 total, but it is our first Open, and we are on the Canadian tour but in Montana...maybe it will get better? It wasn't a bad day of racing anyways...

Lewistown isn't Englishtown, so 75 cars isn't too bad for the first year...

Need to Promote early and Often to get 'em in next year...

Any racing tomorrow?

I'd be curious which F/S Chevy II showed up,,,,, probably not the one I'm thinking of, but you never know.

There will be a full day of racing today as well...headed to the track now.

The F/S Chevy II is McIntosh's son, they basically threw a spare motor in and went!

Thanks for the reply,,, sometimes Jim Parsons will travel a little ways with his '66 Chevy II, stocker,, but not this time. Hope the rest of the weekend goes well,, take care.

Thanks. It was another great day, 82 cars total, some in double classes. James Quan in an E/SA 67 Fairlane won combo, Mike Corbett was runner up both days. All in all it went well I thought, I hope we get to do it again next year!
