A engine diaper is required for all S/ST cars. It does not have to be an SFI certified diaper but I assume one made by a recognised manufacturer. Universal fit diapers do the job and will run probably around $180. Contact Dennis from DRE and he can fix you up.

Mandatory if you run over 135 mph and well worth it. If you ever have a blow up, you will be very glad you had one.

Re: s/st engine containment

straight from this years rule book sec 7 page 2

OIL-RETENTION DEVICE
All vehicles must utilize an NHRA-accepted lower engine oilretention
device; may use a belly pan in lieu of a device attached to
the engine. If belly pan is used, must extend from framerail to
framerail and extend forward of the harmonic balancer and
rearward to rear-engine plate and must incorporate a minimum 2-
inch-high lip on all sides. A nonflammable, oil-absorbent liner
mandatory inside of retention device. See General Regulations 1:8.

don't get confused with the gen regs. the above rule is specifically for sst. all vehicles need a diaper no matter what et's or mph they run.

Your div director or tech guys should be able to answer any questions you have.

Hope this helps

I went and checked out the websight rule book after Jim wrote his comment and did not see the 135 mph rule ,but seems like i read it somewere that it was modified a little in superstreet but maybe i am mistaken.

Re: s/st engine containment

The diaper rule is one of those rules that doesn't necessarily overlap with the rules for a bracket race car. I can run in a bracket race at a local NHRA track with my 125-ish MPH car without a trans shield. When I attend a LODRS event running S/ST with the same car it is required to have a trans shield.

Another place where the rules will vary is with the protective clothing requirements. My car has the unaltered firewall and floor still in place and has a 8 pt. roll bar. At a bracket race I'm only required to use a single layer fire jacket, but running S/ST I have to wear both the jacket and pants.

Hope this helps clear things up for you.

I run D/G in the heritage series and an occasional S/ST race. We are required to have a diaper. flexplate shield and trans shield or blanket.

Re: s/st engine containment

I run a dry sump motor not sure how a diaper will fit around the 6 inlet and outlet line going to the sump plus the pump fits near the sump would more than likely cost a arm and leg to fit a diaper around that stuff.

I think it is worth every penny for safety concern. Dennis at DRE is the go to guy for a perfect
fit custom diaper.

All Super Street racers have to run an Oil containment device No matter what speed No SFI

I had issues with a diaper and my dry sump pumps, too.
So, I built a belly pan as per rules. Neat, simple on and off with Dzus fastners.. The only problem I am having is the fire retardant absorption material to put in it.
What do most guys use?
What is available?
Thanks,
Adger Smith

wouldn't that be the oil absorb pads? they come with a diaper but I am sure you can get them at most automotive stores. I have also seen grey colored ones at Wal-Mart. not sure if they are fire resistant though. a friend has a belly pan on his dragster with these in it, I thought that they would somehow blow out of the pan at speed, he looked, they were still there....

I purchased a dre diaper for my dry sump engine and it fit like a glove.....sbc with 4 scavenge lines and 1 pressure + remote filter...it all tucks up nice and neat

Re: s/st engine containment

DRE makes a good product, but it was a cost decision. Since I'm an engine guy I've set up my car for 4 totally different engine combinations. Dodge B1-TS with dry sump, Basic BB Chevy, Basic SBC, and a splayed valve V-6 with external oil pump. I would have had to spend a fortune on Diapers just to "play" with these different combinations. The Pan also plays a part in the aero package I've built into the car. When I get back to racing I will have a car that I can study what happens with different power combinations and play with different things on the track. That is part of what makes it fun...
Thanks for the info.

You can get just the absorbent pad from DRE.

My DRE diaper fits perfect around my dry sump oil pan....Also has drag link hole through center of the oil pan. DRE IS the way to go.
