Need info going to the U.S. Nationals at Indy

I've never been to the U.S. Nationals at Indy, just want to know what are the best days to go to watch Stock and Super Stock run. What about good places to stay? I plan on flying in commerically and renting a car.
Any recommendations for a newbie is appreciated.

Thanks,
Richard

If you enjoy watching class eliminations, Stock is on Thursday and Super Stock is on Friday.

Hotels are reasonable at I-465 and 421 (Michigan Road). 15 minutes from the track. I stay at the Comfort Inn. Clean and has a nice spread for breakfast. Close to places to dine morning and night. Also close to Marsh's (grocery store) which has good store specials during Indy for refreshment and grill goodies.

Also, Stock and Super Stock qualifying is on Wednesday starting at 8:30AM. I go to Indy every year for all 6 days, and I always stay at the Red Roof Inn North on Valparaiso Court. It is right off of I-465 at Exit 27 and from the motel to the track is about a 20 minute drive, 90% of which is on I-465. It is an excellent motel (read the reviews on Tripadvisor), and the prices are more than reasonable. If you want more detailed info, send me a Private Message; I will help you in any way that I can.

I'll also nominate any of on the motels up on the north end of town. I've been going to Indy with my dad every year for about 10 years straight now. We've always stayed on the north end of town and I don't think we've ever had an issue with traffic either going to or from the track.

To add to the schedule discussion - Stock usually runs 2-3 rounds of eliminations on Saturday morning - which is also fun to watch!

There are 8-10 motels in Plainfield IN off I-70. One exit west of the airport. They are all fairly nice, reasonably priced, and easy to get to. Also, "Ronald Reagan Parkway" (which is also the airport exit) has recently opened all the way from I-70 to within 1/4 mile of the track. Take Ronald Regan north till it comes to a 'T". Turn right and the track will be in front of you. It is 4-lane most of the way with minimal stop lights.

Get there early for the class eliminations, the heads up between close cars has some unique prep by teams. Also, Friday has Stock Eliminator in the tear down barn, Super Stock on Saturday.

I would top off my fuel tank before I get there. Locals gouge fuel prices big time that weekend. We drive thirty minutes after leaving there and fuel prices are much lower.

Park on the west side of the track-don't go in the front gate to park because they will park you on the east side of the track and you will have to walk 2 miles to the Stock and Super Stock pits. Stock and Super Stock has always pitted on the west side of the track and you can park accross the street in the parking lot next to the campground. Make sure to take plenty of water to keep you hydrated because it is always hot there. We have also stayed at some of the motels on michigan road rt 421at I-465 and it is an easy drive and good area. We usually bypass going down Clermont road (North side of the track)on Friday and later because it gets to be a big traffic jam and use the roads on the south side to get there. Get there early on Thursday and Friday (8 A.M.) if you don't want to miss anything because that is when they start class eliminations.

Do what I do ....infringe on friends who live there :)

Actually I agree with this post. We normally pick up crew that stay off this ext on the way to the track. We normally park and enter from the rear of track.
