"Live From" Atco Raceway - LODRS
 

Good morning from Atco, NJ. There is supposed to be a test and tune today, but it has been raining lightly this morning. The weather forecast is not good for today, but you never know. I will keep you posted if the test and tune does happen.

I took some random photos this morning and as you can see there are not many rigs here or people movement this morning. Typically rigs start rolling in around noon here at Atco. I think todays rain forecast will most likely have racers coming in late today.

Jack is supposed to be here late toady, so you will two live reporters posting this weekend.

This could be a problem..I don't have a problem with someone saving a space or two .
Everyone does it ...but as usual its OUT OF F';/./KING HAND..I don't see how someone can get away with this BS.I can show up afull day ahead of a LOCAL..but they can show up when ever they get there and get paved up front space..SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT THIS..We all pay the same money but some racers travel quite far and get to the track early and get F'/;'ed See you folks in the dirt..

I was under the impression that taping for spots had been addressed over the past year. Still it seems that some people just don't get it or just feel that they are above the rules. Some things never change !

I have seen Bob Lang rip the tape down and right in the same area where one of those pictures earlier posted is from.

I often arrived on early Thursday evening for most division races back when participation was much higher than these days. I was often pitted so far away from the lanes I was past the finishline......

Racers that arrived Friday morning where much closer to the lanes thanks to the reverse order of parking that was often used....

The tape stretchers and spot savers need to be stopped.....or at least limited to ONE saved spot.....

Hit that one on the nail!! Nothing like traveling 5 hours and arrive early on Thursday just to park in the sand, while the empty parking lot looks like a Crime Scene with all the tape.

A couple of years ago or so, because of this same issue at this same track we were told by D1 that no one could save more than one spot. When we showed up on Thursday morning, driving to the gate we could see that contrary to the so called new D1 rule it was caution tape city. I asked at the gate why the new rule was not being adhered to? The woman at the gate didn't know anything about it and called track management to ask. She was told that anybody who didn't like it could have their money back and leave! Then later in the day they came around and took a lot of the single spots away from people. So much for caring about the customer.

Hi gang - well its been a very long and trying day and many thanks go out to the boss for opening up for me today .First thing is as most of you know the test n tune was washed out today .The Sun came out many times but not enough to dry the track and grounds out .
Second is the place is packed already even with todays bad forecast everyone showed up .So much for Sportsman racing going dead - at least not here in Division One .Good news ?The weekend is looking terrific - so if you're on the fence start packing and get on the road .

Me ? ? I've got my hands full - sprung a water leak in my fresh water tank somewhere and tomorrow will be full of trying to fix it between racing .

Managed to snap a few photos earlier .....Just enough to keep Kenny happy .

BTW , did manage to get some good eats in tonight thanks to my friends Tommy Goldman and Kathy Purcell who shared ( and cooked ) some of the finest Crab cakes and fried shrimp that I've ever had .

Good morning - Well blue skies and Sun its not this morning but at least its not raining .The big word this AM is fog and boy oh boy is it thick .As I sit here this morning enjoying some early tea and toast I can see about maybe 40 or fifty yards - there is just that much of it and hopefully in a few hours it'll burn off .

Yesterday the 'volunteers' from NHRA's Division One Certification team were doing house calls getting tech done while it was raining and that will take the rush off this morning - thanks guys ! ! We do notice your efforts and can't thank you enough .

And then the Sun came out .......And it became hot / humid and slow .Stock just got their first hit and I doubt anyone was in the record lanes .......but you never know ! !

And would you believe our own Stock/SuperStock Ford magazine editor is in the house ? Evan Smith , former New Jersey resident stopped up from Florida to visit his in-laws and got himself a job this weekend driving one of Anthony Bongiovannis' CobraJets .Welcome back Evan ........

Even though the weather won't let us go fast the track is in excellant condition this morning as I didn't hear one complaint yet ..........The Atco staff combined with the NHRA crew got this place hummin'.

Stock is done with their first qualifying run and Super Stock has just been called to the lanes. Weather for those who are interested is as follow.

Ed we are a little spoiled here in Div. 1 but I have been to Houston in the spring time and it was pretty dam fast. And I didn't see one snow shovel. Barry

D-1 is the place Ed. DA of 1500 or less(sometimes a lot less) barometer of 30 plus and wheelies that last so long you feel yourself aging in reverse.

My DA chart for D-1

< 0 = real good/great......chamber of commerce conditions
<1000= pretty good
1000-2000......not great but not brutal
2000-3000......getting bad
3000-4000......Bad(Epping two weeks ago)
4000+.......Uncivilized....

I have been to Atco and Englishtown when the DA on my hand held weather station said - 500 or better

Englishtown is about an hour north and can also have air like that on a crsip sunday morning in the spring or fall.....

2000-2500 is about normal in warm conditions

I was at Numidia earlier this month.....and it was 3600 feet.....

Worst I ever saw around here at any track was about 4000-4200.....

If thats the case then we (D4 racers) run in uncivilized condition quite a bit!

At the Dutch Classic in October at Maple Grove, the DA is routinely -500 or better every morning of the 4 day event.

Stock and Super Stock are done with their 2 runs for today. There will be clean up runs and a few super classes are left to run.

I see drc has not posted yet, I will try to get a sheet and post as soon as I can.

Mean while here are some more random photos along with an in car cam from Bryan Bardekoff in his 64 Fury B/SA.

I have more photos and two more super stock in car cams coming up later.

Couldn't say, I believe I mentioned I have never seen that.

The Stockers get the good air around here. We run about noon, not real often less than 2500'.
