Which SBC Stainless Roller Rocker?
I am at the point i need to purchase rocker arms and feel i have narrowed it down to three brands and could sure use everyone's opinions. I have a 1971-72 Nova 350/270 with 7/16 studs. The three choices i seem to be leaning towards are:
PRW Pro series Stainless $299.50 COMP Cams Hi-tech Stainless $384.00 Crower Enduro Stainless $526.00 Not familiar with PRW and Crower is sure at the top of the $$ range so my gut tells me COMP. Also would like to know everyone's pushrod choices (brand and wall thickness) as i would imagine i will need to purchase new also for correct length/geometry. One final stupid question. I assume i have to run guide plates? Sorry for all the questions but i am new to Stock and would really like some veteran guidance here. Thanks! Kurt |
Re: Which SBC Stainless Roller Rocker?
Kurt,,, I've had good luck with the Comp stainless rockers,,, a good investment, I think.
I haven't seen the PRW rockers,, but I've tried one of their stud girdles and I wasn't too impressed with it. My 2 cents,,, good luck which ever way you go. Danny Durham |
Re: Which SBC Stainless Roller Rocker?
Comp Cams. Call Tim Cole, you need the new special rocker for Stock Eliminator. Tim will also hook you up with 3/8" guide plates and the correct pushrods. You cannot go wrong with the new stuff Tim and Comp have developed for Stock Eliminator. It was developed with direct involvement with some of the best engine builders in the country. Tim Cole at Comp is the "go to guy" for a lot of us.

Re: Which SBC Stainless Roller Rocker?
Comp has the "new" 1/2 stud rocker system for the SBC which should work just fine on the stocker engines.

A big thanks for everyone's advice. Very much appreciated.
Alan and Reggie - My Stealy heads already have 7/16 studs. Is 1/2 really needed? Kurt |

You cannot make valvetrain too stiff. The stiffer it is, the more reliable it is and the better it works. Call Tim and talk to him. |

So, the way I look at it, "from those to whom much is given, much is expected", and I try to live up to that. We may not have the fastest car out there, but we're rock solid and a decent threat, few people just look to the next round when they have us, not too many think they're getting a free pass. However, I'll be the first to admit that without all the help I got, I'd still be years behind. So if I can help someone, I'll always try to lend a hand. We race on a shoe string budget, and do almost everything ourselves. Jimmy Bridges does our heads now, Peanut Watson and I do our machine work together. I build our engines, transmissions, and most often, our rear ends. Kevin does most of the suspension work, and we share wiring and plumbing. So we're not fast like the Sorensons, Bobby DeArmond (who has also given a little help) or some of the others, because we don't have the money or time to race and test as much as we'd like. |
