My name is Rick and I am Kaylee's great uncle and was the first person to reach her after her accident. I just wanted to coment on some of the statements in one of the early post. The throttle did not hang open, she did not go to the end of the track and hit the wall, nor did the steering wheel make contact with her in anyway. She simply misjudged her speed and turned to late to make the first turn off and not the last. The car has been inspected by NHRA and everthing on and in the car did what it was supposed to do. this was just a freak accident and not in any way an equiptment malfunction, with this said we the family would like to thank all the people that have shown their love and support to our Kaylee. To update everyone on her condition, I just talked to her father this morning and she has been having a little problem with her breathing at night, but after she has surgery on Friday at 12:00 pm this problem should get better once she can sit upright. Once again thank you for all your thoughts and prayers.

This post was made on www.jrdragsterplus.com website on Thursday April 5th. There are many posts on this website and also on www.jrdrags.com. I do not want to say anything out of turn so if Rick or someone from the immediate family wants to say anymore about what they think actually happened I will let them post it. It was something that even NHRA or ANY parent would have thought possible. It was a freak accident. I will try to ask one of the family members to post updates on her condition. If I hear something that I know is up to date and accurated I will. There are several fund raisors going on. There was an Auction last Saturday at the Bullitt Speedway sponsored by Joey Bohannon that raised $7500.00. There is a BENEFIT Race coming up on Sunday April 22nd at Ohio Valley Dragway in Louisville Kentucky. This race is for fun and to raise money for Kaylee so please keep that in mind. If you don not want to race, any donations will be accepted. If you can, remember to put the intentions of the race and all the benefits that are going on for Kaylee into your thoughts and prayers. There is going to be a silent auction the day of the race so if you have anything you want to donate for that or if you would like to place a bid it would be deeply appreciated. They are selling stickers for your race cars or bumpers or whatever for $2.00 each. The biggest donation you can give is to pray for her recovery.

ssladyracer wrote:

I think it would be nice if anyone did order the stickers and put them on their junior dragsters to send a picture to show Kaylee how many are supporting and pulling for her recovery The stickers are 3 1/2 inches long by 1 1/4 inches tall and they come in either pink or white.

they can be orderd by pay pal, the email address for that is MartyKDR@aol.com, you can log into pay pal and use that email address. in the send messgae to seller box, specify how many you want, your mailing address etc.

Kaylee has been moving her arms and legs. She is still on the respirator/ventilator. She has been running a fever up and down since the accident but the doctors do not seemed too concerned about it at this time. She had surgery last Friday to fuse her discs and to put her in a halo. The surgery for that was a success. If you want to send any cards or letters she is in

Where is all the support I always hear about when a racer needs help ?
Here is an 8 year old drag racer that needs our support her family needs that help now while they are out of work. They also have 2 other youngsters to care for. Please find a way to give a helping hand, if it were your child in need I would go out and beg for them too. Draw has sent some but not near enough we as a racing family need to stick together. I know there are other pleas for funds but this is a very young girl, show her what racer's are. She will never forget our helping hand.

Where are all of you hiding ? No posts and very little help, where are those guys that do the hosiptal fund raiser's I always read about on here ? This youngster is going to be laid up for a long time. Help now before the family gets behind on everything. Please

I am mailing a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Tammy Smith for my Kaylee decal and a small donation. I'd like the little girl in Kentucky to know that there is a North Carolina lady Stock racer (and a Mom), who cares about her. Let's see in how many states the decals can be displayed.

Ok Steve, Maybe I am being a little tough but look at it from my point, over 1400 readers of this post and if they all sent $1 the family is covered for another week. You can not tell me racers cant afford a BUCK and a stamp. We started DYA that way, with 5s and 1s it adds up. So yell at me all you want this family still needs help. Sorry if I offended you. If we are going to help pay eachothers oildown fees whats another buck ??

We are glad to see posts and it dose not matter how you send you donation.

We just mailed a donation to the recovery fund and ordered the decals. This is a important situation that can not be overlooked.

ssladyracer 04-13-2007 11:05 PM

Just wanted to say thank-you for all the donations, thoughts and prayers. Kaylee is now off the respirator but still has the trach tube. They are keeping her on pain medication and she still is running a fever but has no infection in her body. She has a long hard road to go but she is a tough little thing. Please just keep her in your prayers and remember her family. Anyone who can attend the Benefit race please do there will be many other things going on to make a donation such as the silent auction, a cornhole tournament, and maybe Karokee. There are raffle tickets being sold for $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00 on a 2007 roketa 50cc scooter and second prize is a homemade quilt. I am sure they will be sold at the Race. The decals seem to have been a big hit. Again send her a picture of your car with the decal she will be amazed at how many people from across the country know about her. Thanks again

I would like to thank Bob Pagano and Charlie Ford for their time and their efforts in raising money for Kaylee. I have never met nor spoke to either but one email has started a snowball that continues to grow. For both of them to jump in as quickly as they have they both need to be shown some kind of appreciation. No one needs to feel obligated because in todays world we all know how hard it is just to get through the week. As I have said many times before any and all donations big or small mean so much but the one thing that costs nothing but is priceless is prayer. If all that have donated include that along with the ones that can't donate just say a prayer she has to get better. Most that are donating and praying do not even know Kaylee and that in itself is a miracle. People across the country are really concerned about Kaylee's recovery and her family. It has been and will continue to be for a while a rollercoaster ride for the Greer family. I hope more ups than downs for them.
If you think about it there has been a lot of freak accidents lately and they seem to be happening more often. Life and everyday is precious, never forget that. This incident has really made me realize that.
I will quit now before I sound like I am giving a sermon. [:-good-:]

Thanks again to Bob, Charlie and all for helping Kaylee and her family

I also would like to thank Bud Lefevre. He is going to donate his profits on an immaculate model project to Kaylee's recovery fund. He has built a 55 Chevy Nomad M/P of Paul Blevins and is going to auction it off on ebay starting April 23rd. His time and effort is enough but his thoughtfulness is priceless. I group him with Bob Pagano and Charlie Ford, believe me guys there are those out there with big hearts and these 3 prove it. I used to think most people were self-centered, boy was I wrong. It is great to see how people are helping. Many thanks, many thanks....... [:-cheers-:]

There are a couple of junior dragster websites that have a lot of information on Kaylee's recovery fund; where and how to donate, also about how you can purchase the Racing for Kaylee stickers and many other benefit type auctions online. If you have a child into the juniors they are raffling off an engine for a junior worth $4100.00. One website is ww.jrdragsterplus.com and the other is www.jrdrags.com if your interested Kaylee's Dad does post updates on her condition at times and you can tell he is so appreciative of the support. There are pictures of the stickers there and a post tells the size. There are going to be T-shirts sold at the Benefit race and I expect they will go quick. It sounds like many Junior dragsters are coming from different states.
Another person that needs to be commended is Joey Bohanon he had an auction on April 7th at his Slot Car track, Bullitt Speedway, in Brooks Ky and did a fine job as auctioneer. I don't think he will ever starve.[:-happy2-:] Check out the junior websites for updates and info if it isn't here.

Mr. Kenney,
I did not mean to leave you out. Thank you so much for your gracious donation. Another one added to the Big Heart Association. I hope you know how much it is needed and appreciated. I do not mean to leave anyone out from the prayers to the small and large donations. I think it is great that so many feel for someone they have never seen or met. Kaylee may not be very big but she sure has started a Nationwide
Cause. Thanks Bo and to all for your response and prayers.

Wow ! The last few day have been great, I received more of the type of response I thought would come from the racers. As of tonight I have received $1800 and there is still some on the way. I also have a check made out to the Kaylee Fund that I will forward.
Now this hit me big. Charlie Westcott has said Fred Henson is the man but I am here to tell you who the real man is. Bo Kenney is the Man in my book, yea he has money and cars but he took the time to help a little 8 year old girl , he showed me just how big a heart he has. Thank you Bo for stepping up. The Benefit was a great success!!! It was overwhelming the turn out of people. I was in the silent auction area all day but from what I could see of the stands and the staging lanes we had to have well over 1000 people there. We thought maybe we would have 500 to 600 people. I was told in the concession stand they had to make a food run at least once. Thanks to Matt Alvey and his crew he had for working that area. I haven't got an accurate count but we think there were 30 or more juniors and there were maybe 4 or 5 lanes full of bracket cars. The show cars trickled in and out all day. Joey Bohanon was in charge of that so maybe he can tell how many he had. The money goal for the day was $15,000. We hit right under $60,000!!!!! That is overwhelming, $60,000!!!!
Chad and Cindy Greer were both there, Cindy went back to the hospital after a few hours at the track. Chad's friends and family brought his bracket car to the track. They had done some interior work to the car that he was unaware of and it was a big surprise plus very emotional for him. We didn't know if he could or would drive but he said that Sunday would be the race for him to climb back into his car. He did real well, since it was Kaylee's Benefit Race, she seen to it that Chad won the race!! Matter of fact down to 3 cars it was Chad, Rick Greer (Rick is Chad's Uncle, who helped get Kaylee out of the car the day of her accident) and Charlie Bohanon. Charlie opted out of showing up for the semis and it was Chad and Rick in the finals. It was something you just can't describe.
They had a special grudge match with 2 juniors. One was Tyler Bohanon and in the other junior in the right lane was his Dad, Charlie. Yep I said it right Charlie Bohanon in a junior. I just want to know how big of a shoe horn and how much vaseline they had to use to squeeze Charlie into that thing (just kidding Charlie). I don't know details of the run but Tyler kicked his butt pretty good. I do know Charlie ran a 8.15 and I think Tyler ran a 12.91. There were several bets made on the line that I heard. Tyler also won his age group for junior dragsters that paid $40.00 and he donated his money back to the Kaylee fund. Thanks Tyler.
They had a small ceremony before the race started. Kaylee's favorite color is pink so Missy Boblitt bought pink balloons and gave them to all the junior drivers. Before the race started it was annouced Let's Race for Kaylee and the junior drivers released the balloons into the air. The weather was beautiful, sunny and about 80 and besides some gusts of wind it was perfect. I guess God took care of that portion.
We didn't keep the funds seperate on which activity raised how much. There was a regular auction that was also a big hit. There was a helmet donated that all of the NHRA Top Fuel drivers and Funny Car drivers had autographed that was purchased by Richard Troxel for $1250 and he gave it to Chad. That got an applause from everyone. After the auction was over Chad gave a big thank you and a hug to 4 people who he said was responsible for saving Kaylee's life. The fireman (Tony Schindler), the 2 EMT's that were at the track that day and Rick Greer. I have to say I seen many tear up through the auction, the thanks yous from Chad, and especially when he won the race. We had so many volunteers that I can't name them all but just remember, it was appreciated and it went pretty smooth with all the help. We couldn't have done it without you all.
Missy had a call at the track from a man in Australia who is the Marshall of a motorplex that run junior dragsters. They had a Wipit (a race) and raised $1000 Australian dollars which equals to $820 American dollars for Kaylee. Her story seems to be venturing into other countries.
Thanks to Charlie Ford for his hard work at Belle Rose LA at the Sportsnationals. He said he had a constant stream of racers and others coming to him asking how to donate. He has been beating the pavement for Kaylee in the Cajun country.
Kaylee had another surgery Saturday night to relieve some fluid build up around her brain. Cindy and Chad told TC (my husband) at the track Sunday that she did come through the surgery well and was moving her legs and arms. Chad said she was even yawning Sunday. He said it was because she stayed awake all night Saturday after the surgery. Keep the prayers coming that's the most important thing right now.
One more time thanks for everyone that helped and donated Sunday and in the preparation for the Benefit. Thanks to Ohio Valley Dragway for the track and the workers thanks to Kevin Thornberry from US 60 Dragway and his workers. Missy Boblitt, Lisa Huff, and Laura Blincoe, Tammy Smith, you guys pulled it all together and it turned out great!! Sissie and Fox, Laurie, Debbie and a special thanks to JoAnn Morris for the many hours counting the donations, I don't know everyone's name that worked so it's not that we are leaving anyone out, I maybe shut off by a word count if I continue http://www.classracer.com/html/happy2.gif, you know what you did and how much it means.
