2001 Class Nationals info...

I know it's on here somewhere...but don't have time to search. Anybody have some
numbers close by they can access quickly?

1.) Total car count...breakdown of SS and Stock Elim cars?

2.) Number of Crate-Motor and Pure Stock cars....I'm assuming they could run?

3.) Were Top Stock cars permitted in Stock Elim...or not allowed to cross-over?

Thanks!

Re: 2001 Class Nationals info...

1) I know it was 187 (yes, one eight seven) Stockers. 101 S/S cars, so 288 total.

2) I will post the qualifying sheets so you can see. I know there were several of each. Yes, all NHRA and IHRA-legal cars were able to compete. Unsure of the car counts, but there was also Nostalgia/SS (handicapped Index breakoput format on .50 interval Indexes) as well as Outlaw/SS, a heads-up class for cars with mufflers and stuff, I think similar to the old mid-90's NMCA Pro Street class, before they became Pro Mods with license plates.

3) Top Stock (21 of the 187 Stk cars) had their own heads-up Pro Tree shootout, but also ran in with regular Stock in their own Class (T/Stk, 11.00 Index)

Thanks for finding that material, Mike. I used to have links to the race coverage and such that I did, but IHRA's been through server changes since I left, and sadly, a lot of photos and stories are just gone.

I thought for sure there were more Super Stockers than that. The most interesting thing though is the qualifying times... remember that was before they whacked .30 off the indexes. I know it was 107 degrees there, but still, comparing everyone's performance then and now is wild. Like #3 in Super Stock would only be -.69 under today's index, and now we think "boy, I need to pick it up..." Moving the indexes did a lot more than just move a reference point.

Hi Terry. We are as well as can be expected, considering all the health issues we have faced the past three years (all three of us). I made a post about it in The Lounge on here.

If you drank a bottle of water, it fell out your feet. Now, we wear the heat like a badge of honor! The most amazing thing was seeing Redman bring the track around in that heat.

FYI, historical weather data and high temps Fri-Sat-Sun, first weekend in May each year at National Trail Raceway...

2013 - 78 / 73 / 73 - all clear
2012 - 87 / 81 / 80 - SAT (light rain 8:30PM-10:30PM only)
2011 - 57 / 64 / 69 - SUN (.07" precip 8AM-9AM only)
2010 - 82 / 71 / 73 - SAT (.04" precip 11:20AM -1PM only), SUN: wash
2009 - 71 / 62 / 64 - FRI: wash, Sat-Sun all clear
2008 - 80 / 70 / 63 - FRI (.12" precip 5:30PM-8PM), SAT (6AM-Noon), SUN clear
2007 - 75 / 66 / 66 - SAT (2PM-7PM), Fri & Sun clear
2006 - 72 / 61 / 64 - all clear
2005 - 55 / 54 / 55 - all clear
2004 - 62 / 79 / 52 - FRI: wash, SAT clear til 10PM, SUN rain til 1PM, SUN clear
2003 - 66 / 63 / 69 - SAT sprinkle @ 7PM, Fri & Sun clear
2002 - 57 / 66 / 72 - all clear

Really, in 12 years, only 2010 would've been really bad. There's a couple of years that we could've gotten through with some schedule adjustments. Historically, might have to deal with a stray shower once at some point during the weekend. Those are about as good of odds as you could ask for.

Did I mention that I won that great event? It was really a great deal. Thanks Alex for the treat. I'm gonna win the next event also.

if you remember my gimpy cart had stacks of water bottles in the basket, I was out in the stuff everyday running things from the lanes, wouldn't trade the deal for the world, it was damn hot but we got through it. Yes Jeff was Stock winner while Willy Devore was the SS winner with his stick shift Camaro

Re: 2001 Class Nationals info...

And thanks to each and everyone who worked that event! Redman kept the bite there all weekend in that heat and sandy soil! Convinced me that no bite because its too hot is BS. Nitro busted his butt for at least 4 days. I remember water in the motor home was so warm in the tanks that a cold shower in the shower room at the track was best. It was HOT but GREAT! Holmes over Terrance in the index race if I remember correct. Also, some things that come to mind: Alex and Nitro were at the gate and thanked us for coming, Terry Bell was in the heat a day early teaching cars at trailers to get a head start and keep down the lines in tech the next day and also introduced himself and thanked us again for coming, Alex was at the gate late Sunday and as I was leaving thanked me again for attending. Was a great time and an extremely well run event considering it was the first. Also being amazed at Adger Smith, who was still recovering from a bad accident, was everywhere, doing it all! Spectators were much more than expected and added to the excitement of the whole event! S/SS was the main attraction so I guess we are marketable after all. Contingency sponsors stepped up and participated and offered great incentives (without 3-5 yr.limits on product) Which is total BS in my opinion. One of the best run, most fun events I have been to in recent years.

The price for racing at the 2014 event: entry fee, beer, gas , toll money, beer , hotel , beer,
racing fuel , bbq food & beer , i don't think i missed anything. $1,000.

THE THRILL OF JUST S/SS CARS BEING THE ONLY ONES RACING: PRICELESS.

Mike C.....Thanks for posting that info...I'll check it out as time permits...Glad to hear
that you're feeling much better...and so are your folks...great news!

Mike B....Thanks for reviving the event...can't wait 'til it happens! And a round of
applause for ALL the hard work you've put into it so far...with more to come...
(unfortunately!) But we ALL know these races don't happen by themselves..and it
takes a LOT of dedication...and sweat.... to pull them off! Thanks too...for looking
into the weather situation....CERTAINLY the big story...in the current 2013 season!

Alex D....Thanks for creating the first Class Nationals...I wanted to go...but couldn't.
Not sure if I "missed" the 107 degrees though?

Dick B....Let's not forget the spectators that are coming...who live OUT of the area!

I was sitting here thinking about all that lead up to and what happened in Byron @ USCN in the year 2001. I will always remember it as a very special "Happening" ...To me It was the "Woodstock" of Stock/SS Racing.
I will always be proud to be a part of USCN's.
I worked so hard that weekend that I forgot to get anything as memorabilia.
I can't even remember if there was a picture taken of the complete "crew"
If there is one floating around, or locked in a scrapbook, I would like a copy.
I'm looking forward to Michael Beard's 2014 Class Nationals event next year. I'm hoping the "Life Situation" that has been keeping me home will release me for that week. If I make it I will sure be looking forward to seeing everyone.

I flew all the way out from Seattle for the first one,,, don't see why I can't do it again,
this time. I'm sure it'll be just as memorable. I'm trying to recruit some buddies
to come along and see this event with me. It should be a blast,, and I'm betting
it'll be quite a bit cooler, thank Heaven.
