Re: castrol out
One thing they definitely can not say is that the Force Flying Circus did not give them enough exposure.

Re: castrol out
in over 45 years in the auto service business, never had a customer ask for Castrol oil...most never ask for any brand....

Re: castrol out
BP is world wide after the mess in the gulf I'm sure the U. S. market is not
a priority cant remember the last castrol commercial I saw on tv |
Re: castrol out
im not losing sleep over it one bit, Castrol never did much for sportsman racing after they did away with the multi-team they use to have with sportsman cars. i tried castrol in my race car once, way to much detergent in it, always looked dirty. Like Quaker State when Bernstein took everybodys deal, Force did the same to castrol. Dont let the door hit you in the ***.

Re: castrol out
Maybe The Mouth :D is on his way out-Mr caster oil don't forget to take your other 2-

Re: castrol out
I like Castrol products, their oils do not break down. A few years back they were developing their synthetic ATF, TransMax. Very good product, and now available over the counter. Sorry to see them out of Drag Racing, sign of the times.

Re: castrol out
Poor exposure to the same OLD crowd with Force. Even having the daughter "on display" couldn't keep Ford and Castrol around.
How many million$ do you think those two companies wrote off for the Team Force extravaganza? Add the money up divide it by TERRIBLE TV ratings and it doesn't take a genius to go elsewhere with your cash if you are as big as BP (Castrol) and Ford. I predict those two will not be the last two BIG COMPANIES to bail from the sinking ship. JMO... Jok |
Re: castrol out
What's Castrol?

Re: castrol out
I'll guarantee you that Ford is not pleased. They view themselves as a "family" oriented business. They do not like controversy or any type of edgy advertising. The mouth made a mistake with his daughter.

Re: castrol out
The way these companies make decisions takes a LONG time! This didn't have anything to do with what happened of late!
If people at the top change and the new arrivals aren't fans of drag racing they look a lot more closely at the ROI and how could it possibly be good with the customers they are aiming their advertising at? |

Re: castrol out
I highly doubt John force will have trouble finding sponsorship to replace castrol. But at worst you may see a bunch of small teams pop up? Could this be a good thing?

Re: castrol out
Really I am just saying. Either you love John Force or you don't. Myself I think he is good for NHRA. He give ALL his sponsors credit. Everyone of them. Every one at JFR when on TV credits theirs sponsors. They couldn't ask for any more air time.
Just saying but what do I know. I am old. Lol |

Also, Bill is correct, these decisions were a long time in the making. If they were really upset about Miss Force's photos, you'd have heard some statements distancing themselves from the Force group. The fact is, like him or not, Force is a big personality, he's quick to give credit to those behind him, he's quick to say what is on his mind, the guy is candid, all of that is good for the sport. His "rags to riches" story is very good for business, in many ways. I find it amusing how people with extoll the virtues of that B.S. Asher spewed, while at the same time they bad mouth Force. Well, Force, his personality, and his showmanship is what Asher says is needed. That's not to say that I agree with Asher, because I absolutely do not agree that we need a "show" at the expense of real racing. It's not working for NASCAR. It won't work for NHRA. |

Maybe if NHRA chose to spread their air time around instead of being the Farce show it would help racing as a whole. |

Re: castrol out
Let me see if I can explain some things....first of all I spent 40 years with a fortune 500 company, many of those in marketing and advertising.
Let me start with why products advertise....obviously to get people to buy there products. That is how they make money. Companies advertise their products with the most efficient way. In order to do this, they need to identify their target demographics. Let's take Castrol for example. The target demographics for Cartrol is probably: male 18-34 age group..... Tampons, on the other hand would probably be female, 18-34. Advertising is based on a CPM (cost per thousand). So, as an example, if you were selling tampons on TV, it would not be wise to advertise during a NFL game. Conversely, you would probably not advertise Budweiser on a Soap Opera. It may sound stupid, but it is really pretty simple. It is impossible to measure the success of a single advertisement. An example is "this Bud's for you"....by Lou Rawls......it turns out that Budweiser made a huge mistake thinking that they would communicate with the black community.....when in fact Lou Rawls was considered a "whitey". So, the only measurement available for advertisers is CPM.....then you look at the results. In the case of Castrol and John Force, you could say that he is doing a great job for Castrol, and probably is. There is no way to measure that, except to have people say that they buy Castrol because of him...(take a guess....1,000 maybe?)....On the other hand, could Castrol invest their advertising budget to get more favorable results?????? I would say they probably could....If they are spending.......say $3 million with Force.....they could take $1 and promote their product with Auto Zone or O'Reillys with a buy one and get one free.........and immediately increase their cash flow. Just something to think about for those of you that think that putting someone's name on the side of your car is a good deal for the advertiser......unless it generates increased sales and profits...it is not a good deal for them.. one more note...Dan Fletcher is advertising Peak Oil....a new product....That is a great combination....and a good move for Peak oil. AlAnabi on fuel car will not make my go out and buy an AlAnabi....??????? |
