"Short Live From" Norwalk Ohio - Cobra Jet Showdown

I know its only Cobra Jets and its the Cobra Jet Showdown, but many CJ's will be heading to Indy and thought some of you would be interested in how we are running.

It was 3000 ft today with a very stiff head wind. It was in the low 80's, a nice day for late summer in Norwalk.

Chris Holbrook went a 8.68 to take the poll.
Gary Richard is his new 2013 CJ went a 8.78, picture below.
Skillman went an 8.08 @ 170 in super stock trim.

There were others here heading to Indy, Jimmy Ronzello, and I also spoke to the Skinner's, father and son will be at Indy. Did not get a change to talk to them, but Al Smyth from Port A Tree with two cars driven by his daughter Allison an son Stephen. I also saw Al Corda and The Candies crew was also here with all of their cars.

The last three photos is the brand new 2014 Cobra Jet with a trick flat orange paint.

I hope to have so more photos tomorrow, but we will be heading to Indy right after eliminations. We start at 12 and should be done by 4.

What are the weighs of the cars running the Shootout?

Ken Miele 08-23-2013 11:49 PM

Re: "Short Live From" Norwalk Ohio - Cobra Jet Showdown

Joe, for cj top stock, Holbrook and Richard had to weigh 3325. I don't know what weight they were at.

I was trying to post photos yesterday from the event but couldn't resize from my phone. It was a good day and excellent to catch up and talk with everyone. The Norwalk facility's and NMCA people have been great.

WOW Skillman just went 7.97@172. Congratulations to Skillman on his first 7sec run.

The in car cam is Chris Holbrook in his 2013 CJ running a 8.64 @ 160 in his last qualifying shot this morning. From what I here Chris is close to weight for the NHRA Factory Stock Showdown.

Gary Richard also went a 8.69 @ 158.

They are posted somewhere on NMCA web page under the Cobra Jet Showdown...pretty light minimums.

I had posted a while back on a different thread that the current rules actually penalize those that have left their cars in unmodified condition.

Qualifying sheet has that as a coyote car. Is that legit? Seems damn fast for a 2.9 blower!

No sir, it's. 4.0 blower car.

Re: "Short Live From" Norwalk Ohio - Cobra Jet Showdown

Like Brett said the 7sec car was Skillmans 5.4/4.0 car in super stock. Ray also had his 5.0/2.9 car there in top stock and nearly nabbed top qualifying owners with it on Friday also. Both are Holbrook built engines.

Congratulations to Candies on the win!

Yes, but went out in the second round to PB Candies. Look at nmcadigital.com for the run sheets. I think Holbrook built all of the fast motors. Those 5.0 motors are really cranking out the HP.

Randy's hot rod was there also. 8.22@167

Holbrook does not build our engines. That honor goes to Roush.

Well, I guess he didn't build ALL of the fast motors. Just most of them.

You'll be fine I am sure. Either way, you still will have a good time. I guarantee it.

This last group is from the rain shortened Fun Ford Weekend @ Maple Grove last week. Roy Hill had two new cars there, Super Stocker built by Petty's Garage, pictures do not do it justice. And '13 Stocker with sponsorship from the Mustang Club of America.

The rule makers apparently do not value racing competition between these unmodified cars. I do not expect this to change.

Doug, Long gone is the rule book only to be replaced by open ended class modifications for financial support.

Brett C 08-26-2013 08:59 AM

Re: "Short Live From" Norwalk Ohio - Cobra Jet Showdown

Simple way to keep it fair is to let each car owner/driver run in whatever class index they legally fit it and run true CIC race like that. The Super Stock all heads up is great, the Top Stock rules were decent, but the CIC rules are where the punishment is handed out.

Dan, great photos and thanks for posting!
