We lost a 1986 super stock champion, DELMER WOOD passed today. he loved to race with all his friends. we will miss him. he meant so much to all of us.

This is so sad, Delmer was a great racer, and a great person, I was very fortunate to be able to hang out with him and Dan Larson, both of them were really great racers, and Super Stock racing will never be the same without them!, Rip Delmer, and so sorry for Joan, and Tony.

Sorry to hear about Delmer passing. He and I fought it out in 1986 down to the last race at Pomona for the World Championship in 1986. We were sitting on the guardrail together as being part of the pre race ceremony while Don Garlits was speaking on stage. Delmer said to me, "that is one guy I would like to meet someday". When Garlits was done speaking and came off the stage, I yelled over to him and said "Don, come over here, there is someone I would like you to meet". Don came over in case he might know who I was (he didn't know me from Adam) and I introduced him to Delmer and Garlits shook Delmers hand. Delmer had such a big smile on his face and said he wasn't ever going to wash that hand again.

Thought I would share that story with you as your racing family out here really enjoyed Delmer. God Speed.

Sincere condolences to you, Joan and Tony. As I came to understand Delmer, I liked and admired him very much. I have very fond memories of Delmer, Dan Larson and me, standing in the staging lanes at Dallas, talking about nothing in particular. Now these two friends are gone. Delmer was a good man who will be missed.

I first met Delmer about 1991 when we both ran in SS/CS with early camaro's. We were at indy running for the class trophy that year and I had him covered by at least .15. Well when the race was over I out ran him but he had the class trophy! Great racer.

One of the great racers has gone home. Delmer will be missed by all who knew and admired his great presence. I know he is with his buddy Dan, riding his golf cart around the Big Drag Strip in the sky with the dogs in tow. The wonderful memories of being at the races with Delmer, are the gift he left all those who will truly miss him. God bless all of his family. Rest in peace my good friend.
