Racing Seats for a Stocker
Which racing seat would be the best one to install in a stocker? I notice that most racers are using the Kerkey seats. Is this just for looks or is there some reason why the poly seat wouldn't work just as well?

Richard,
I thought the poly seats have inserts? Sean |
Re: Racing Seats for a Stocker
Kirkeys are lighter, stronger, and they look better than poly in my opinion.

The Kirkey feels good too.

Is there a problem with seats with inserts ?

Re: Racing Seats for a Stocker
the poly seats are fine as long as they are installed and braced properly. I have had them for years and they are very comfortable. I have mine thru-bolted to the floor not using the inserts and securely bolted to the roll bar at the back near where the shoulder harness attaches. There are lots of cars out there running the poly seats. The Kirkeys are a very nice seat and look great too.

Re: Racing Seats for a Stocker
I don't know how some of you guys are handling the change to the new seats but after measuring the fit for the Kirkeys I will have to move my entire roll bar because I am now more than the mandated 6 inches away from the top hoop. With the bench seat, which is much thicker, I was within the limit.
So I have to move the entire roll bar forward or wear high heels...and I'm not that good looking! JimR |

Re: Racing Seats for a Stocker
are you guys talking 6 inches ,front to back ?, or top to bottom?
|
Re: Racing Seats for a Stocker
Glad someone posted the issue about the 6 inches as I am currently RIGHT in the middle of installing some Kirkey's in a Nova. Still safer than a bench seat and feels a whole lot better.

Re: Racing Seats for a Stocker
The rule is that your head can be no further in front of the roll bar than 6 inches. With the buckets I am almost twice that far so I can still reach the push buttons...64' savoy.

Re: Racing Seats for a Stocker
Thanks for the input, guys. By the time I could properly install the poly seats they would be more expensive than I thought.

Also remember that poly seat bottoms are thicker than Kirkey seats and can put the top of the drivers helmet above the rollbar/rollcage. |
Re: Racing Seats for a Stocker
How do you determine the layback and width of these seats? Rule book says aftermarket seats. Does not specify racing seats.

Those look nice. Since I am putting a roll bar in this winter it will be a perfect time to install racing seats. |
Re: Racing Seats for a Stocker
Richard, are you looking for a seat that is lighter than stock or a seat that will add to safety?
|
Re: Racing Seats for a Stocker
I was wondering If I put racing seats in my stocker, how are you suppose to mount them to the rollbar, for more support.
|
Re: Racing Seats for a Stocker
Mine are through bolted through the back of the seat to the cross bar of the roll cage with a 1/2 inch bolt.

Re: Racing Seats for a Stocker
I think Jeg's, and Summit sell various seat back mounting brackets, as do some of the mail-order chassis shops.
