Re: Possible new Dragstrip in CT??
That would be a boost to the New England racers if it works out.But wait,oh oh, it will only be 1/8 mile.I remember the last thread about 1/8 racing. It turned out like showing a vampire a cross.

Re: Possible new Dragstrip in CT??
Some one a couple years ago tried to put a track in I think Plainville. this guy had big backing, including NASCAR. Zoning and others shot it down.

Re: Possible new Dragstrip in CT??
As much as I want it to happen ... I don't think so. And 1/8 th mile?
Nope. |
Re: Possible new Dragstrip in CT??
would be nice for once to see a track opening instead of closing, 1/8th mile or not.

Re: Possible new Dragstrip in CT??
1/8 miles stinks!!!! in the story I just read he is speaking on behalf of all drag racers. he also arranges completely useless 100 ft crap!!!!!!! the guy (jay)trying to do it should just go back to hiding under his rock.
I would like and support more facilities but not this guy. |
Re: Possible new Dragstrip in CT??
I think the only way we'll see a new dragstrip anywhere in New England would be if it was added to an already existing race track. 1/8 mile or 1/4 mile, build it, they will come.
I do find it interesting that Thompson is rebuilding it's old road course and plans on holding road racing events and just up the road in Palmer a group with the SCCA is build a complete new road racing facility. I didn't think that type of racing was that popular in this area. I do have to agree with Jimi, the 100' drags is quite the joke, I've seen it a few times and it doesn't resemble anything we do here. |
Re: Possible new Dragstrip in CT??

Re: Possible new Dragstrip in CT??
Along the same lines, there's a movement in FAIRBANKS, ALASKA to build a 1/4 mile drag strip in North Pole, Alaska, adjacent to the dirt track. It's already made it into council meetings. They could run snow machines in the winter. Butch/56sedandelivery.

Re: Possible new Dragstrip in CT??
I ran into a friend from New England at PRI that is involved with this new track. Sounds like all of the tough work is done - meetings and approvals w/ the communities, government agencies and others that may block the facility. It's located in an old quarry that will minimize sound issues. Like the earlier posts noted - it will start out as "short" - 330 ft or 1/8 mile w/ the site developed to support longer racing in the future. Sounds like these guys have done this in a smart manner to get the support of the community.
