Where are the round by round results of this race??? I saw photos on drc, but no round results!
|
The results are in the NHRA section, top of the page - it's a national event - under the Houston headings. Just click on latest 100 and then HOUSTON.
As nearly as we could tell, yesterday was the first time that two NHRA national events were being conducted simultaneously...but I'm sure Bob Frey will say."Nice try, but NOPE!" and then tell me when it happened in 1965. - Larry |
Larry,
YEARS ago, the Sportsnationals were held at the old track in Houston (Dickinson) which turned out being a train wreck with the small parking and the rain. Anyway the rerun was held during the Cajun Nationals in Baton Rouge. David Cook, if I remember correctly, won the Sports and took runnerup at the Cajuns in Modified Eliminator. Todd |
I guess I'm just not old enough to remember...or maybe I'm too old to remember...now, which is it??

Larry,
Go with the first one!!! Todd |

Great job STICK ! What happen to the GREEN CAR?
|
I got imfo from big brother that Kevin is going to be working on two blown up motors. No rest for the wicked. How about it Kev.

Kevin broke the stocker early and the Super Stock car was smoking badly on every run - after the final, they took a real hard look at the track before running any test-and-tune cars. But Kevin was a good boy and other than fogging a few mosquitoes didn't spoil the party and the top-end crew reported that the car was clean and dry after each pass.

Maybe Bob Frey can tell us if one person ran at both Nats. in the same week, because Dan Fletcher is building up frequent flyer miles, running at Dallas thursday and Vegas friday.

The green car lost something to cause one dead cylinder. Rockers are still on, probably a lifter or cam lobe.
The red car lost a freeze plug & was run without water for the entire event. I was ask if I could do a quick hone & check out on it. It might have some dead springs & guides. When the rings melted the vac pump turned into an oil pump. Sucking oil out & venting it back to the headers. Kevin is installing the 18 deg modified engine tonight. The word I got around 4 o'clock this afternoon was the green car would stay in the shop. I guess you can say Kevin, & his engine, were Red HOT today! For a guy to have engine problems he did a very good job on the tree & the finish line. Congrats, Fine job Kevin! Adger Smith |
Thanks guys. I think you all have hit on the high points of this fiasco turned good. Luckily my best stuff is all fresh and going in both cars tomorrow.

Hey Adger are you ever going to show up at another race? I am glad to see that someone knows what the heck Kevin is doing. Jimmy Perrone when are "YA'LL" coming to TEXAS? Tell Karen we said hello.
I just had to say hello to you two. I hope all is well with you both. I guess from now on when I'm flying and I'm interested in what Kevin is doing, I can get on this forum to read all about it. <grin> We are at No Problem, of course, with problems...trying to find a dead body (before the gators get to them) to put in the green car so he will have the "correct" amount of weight so he can qualify. <grin> Obviously, "someone's" math just didn't add up?! ...Sherrie (Kevin's lucky charm) |
Sherrie,
I found out what was going on by picking up the cell phone & calling Kevin. You know, I just have to know what's happening. Hate to be a smart a**, but shouldn't you call your "Guy"?? That might be a little more personal than looking at the computer. I might show up sometime, but spending time with my grandchildren is now #1 priority. I also need to round up all the parts I've loaned out. The car won't run without them. If Kevin can't find a dead body, just use one of those "Gators" They come in various sizes, weights. Have fun, good luck, see you later. Adger Smith |
Adger, I am glad you were able to set everyone straight. I just find the race scene all a lil amusing. As you well know, I'm still quite new to this whole racing experience. Actually, when I'm out flying Kevin is quite good about texting and calling between rounds to let me know what is going on. Of course, I still believe that when you say you blew the tires off that should mean that you had one or more flat tires and when you red light I believe that you should actually slow down and not be in such a hurry. So, I'm not so great at this "crew chief" stuff but at least I know how to clean a car. I guess I do probably entertain him with my stupid questions and I certainly keep him well grounded. The announcer said yesterday that Kevin Helms was a household name...of course, I told him household name or not, he still better take his shoes off when he comes in the motorhome. <grin> I have tried to exchange his wallies for chocolate with the tech guys or whoever gives them to us so I guess I provide Kevin with as many laughs as he provides me with when he's trying to explain this whole racing thing or when he's upset with the race cars..
Well, he just loaded one of the cars back in the trailer...I swear someday he's going to run one of them right thru the trailer and end up in the motorhome with me. So I guess I'll go see what's wrong now...or maybe not.[:-rdo-:] Take care, Sherrie and Kevin |
