Severe damage.....
Reported in Lyn Smith's hometown of Pontiac, IL due to the tornado situation
yesterday. Anybody know if he's ok? Prayers and thoughts for those impacted by this terrible ordeal anywhere in the Midwest.... I've got a buddy further down-state in Springfield and will check on him... |
Re: Severe damage.....
From what I read this morning the most severe damage was in the Washington and Gifford towns and surrounding areas in that area... Also south around robinson illlinois . Terrible high winds here east central ,,paris area but minor damage .Our thoughts are with those affected....

SG racer Carl Root is from Washington, IL...any news about him or Lyn?

Re: Severe damage.....
Carl Root is reported fine, said the storms were just down the road. He claims he and dog sat in the race car and he left his wife toni behind in the ditch! hahaha.

Re: Severe damage.....
Gifford IL. Is only 10 miles west of my house. Went their today to volunteer for the clean up. They turned us away for now. It was UNREAL. Their were no fatalities in the Gifford tornado. There were six injured, 5 minor and one with severe hand injury. It was gut wrenching to see the town destroyed the way it was. Glad to hear Carl is fine.

Re: Severe damage.....
One of my sons is on the Braidwood F.D. ,there district covers both sides of I-55 up to Diamond/ Coal City area. Busy day yesterday and last night ,last we heard alot of the guys were still going tonight.
A lot of racers live in this area, talked to Joe Veronda yesterday and he said it was a mess over there not to far from his house. Right after the storm he couldn't reach his mom and took him along time to go a half mile because of people gaulking .Damage started about an eighth mile past her house and she was ok. I had 3 customers that had there farm sheds blow down on Rt 45 about 8 miles east of 66. 1 guy has a house trailer his daughter and grand kids live in on the farm and a tree went into ,but they had gone to the main house and it was not damaged. I live between thes 2 areas and had no damage close to me. |
Re: Severe damage.....
I thought it was strange that Washington, IL was hit as well as Washington, IN Sunday. Here in Washington, IN we had lots of damage but no injuries. Several businesses and dozens of homes damaged or destroyed. Our shop is on the east side and the tornado touched down on the west side of town. I will try and post a few pictures if I can resize them.

Its a mess here in central IL, they are now saying up to 1000 homes destroyed. 500 are wiped out and debris is piled up. Going to be a long restoration.
